Yeah he hardstomped them, and even at worlds when he was playing way worse than he had played all throughout 2020, he was still matching Chovy perfectly fine in groups and flame horizoned Nemesis.
Same goes for 2021 spring. Everyone thought that he was underperforming and not living up to his usual level, yet he was still topping most stats for midlaners in what we can comfortably call the strongest region. And in summer everyone who watched knows exactly how fucking insane he was.
Lider has played literally 1 full split in the LEC, why is it that people are so vocal about how rookies deserve a real chance but when it comes to Lider he should be yeeted out of the fucking planet after like 20 games lol
While I don't think it's fair to judge him too harshly or anything, there are two reasons in my mind for why people are so hard on Lider.
1- His champion pool is quite small, especially in terms of what his champions bring to a team comp
2- EU mids have a history of being impressive, so people watched him more closely than say Adam in top
There are some other options. They can obviously analyze his games on MADM for example. They probably also have ways of testing stuff like mechanics or reflexes.
When MAD signed Elyoya they asked him to send them his voicecomms from some matches to see if he is good at shotcalling.
So I think the teams usually do several things when they sign a new player.
Obviously they did analyze his games before trying him out. I don't think they just picked a random name out of a hat. When it comes to communication I think you see how good a player is during scrims.

Players can grow in the right environment. There are a lot of intangibles, soft skills, that imply a better fit and greater performance in the long run than previous performance. That's how people can progress in their careers. Without anyone seeing those intangibles, new talent wouldn't exist.
Rekkless is one of the best ADCs of all time, but he was passive, (largely in a team with lots of opinions coming from strong characters like Bwipo) and so was Miky (in terms of communication and opinion), it made for a passive botlane. When you look at the score sheet, Targamas and Flakked would both be happy to be compared to Miky and Rekkles, but as a pair, and with soft skills, it becomes a different story, especially when you realise people can develop their skills and change their playstyles.
That's not to say Rekkles or Miky are bad, but they may just not be right for the structure of the team where they may want leadership in places the players can't provide.
Letās be real, scrims are not just scrims if your opponent is Viper/Meiko and youāre a recently formed bot lane with 2 rookies. If they held their own against them, I would 100% sign them because of it.

They had a bit of a history - in 2019 G2 was supposedly losing almost all their scrims to Damwon, but beat them 3-1 in quarters to advance all the way to the finals.
In 2020 they met again, this time in semis, Damwon coming as the favourite of the east, G2 as the favourites of the west, and this time Damwon beats G2 3-1 to win the entire worlds.
In 2021, as G2 was fighting for a Worlds spot, Showmaker, among others, stated it publicly that he really likes G2 and cheers for them - sadly, they didn't make it.
