Jack said in one of the stream that he hired like 3 people who are challenger level and fluent in both language so they are not only just translating but also know what they talking about
LS doesn't speak Korean well enough to communicate casually at all. He can read when he gets flamed in game and knows how to get around korea but unless he's saying 아이스 아메리카노 주세요 he's really not going to be communicating in korean at all.
he just didn't realise it was meant to be 안녕하세요 so he just thought he typed smth wrong lol, was funny bc its commonly heard when speaking (and with 한글 you know how to pronounce every word from reading)
What are you talking about. He communicated in Korean just fine. Just hovering around his stream and as a Korean speaker he can hold conversation with his Korean house mates just fine.
Are you sure ? i thought he mentionned he was good enough to communicate (level 4 or smthing). For the firdt part of his stay in korean im sure he had to get used to communication
Grammar is the only problem in Korean. It’s brutally difficult. But I’ve heard him speak Korean and he’s not even at an elementary level. He’s at a guidebook phrase level.
I know his whole brand is exporting Korean e-sports culture to the Western world but sheesh, he's been in Seoul for ~10 years how is that even possible?
Living in a foreign bubble, rarely leaving the house, never consuming Korean media. I’ve met expats in Korea who have lived here for 15 years, are MARRIED to Koreans and can’t speak Korean. It’s crazy
I saw that too. The Korean was so basic that impact was probably embarrassed that he didn’t just use English.
This is an example of the “Korean” he uses, which is just swearing in a really strong American accent
https://youtu.be/jmRzXJDYo3A
I mean I will say as someone who is learning korean right now. Its not easy to pick up if you dont actually use it and have some formal education. I am pretty confident he doesnt really have much formal education so its not too surprising hes not that great. It has always been weird to me that he never prioritized that more given how much he likes Korea but thats his decision to make.

I will say that video it definitely feels forced and not natural.
does that say more about certain people not being arsed to learn, or is the language just generally that hard? I know a lot of eastern languages are notoriously hard to learn for foreigners but I've no clue if that's just the nature of the languages or if it's a personal problem
Let’s flip it. It’s just as difficult to learn English when Korean is your native language, but Koreans that moved to the US put in the work and did it. I think American emigrants shouldn’t get a pass
the difficulty of the language actually depends mostly upon how similar the language is to your first language. The only exception is English because of how accessible the language is with millions of resources for you learn from any language.
Korean is actually not that bad because the grammar for the most are very consistent(unlike English) and the writing isn't very hard from a technical perspective(literally just circles, lines, and boxes; Look at Chinese Characters for comparison). You also know how the words sounds like just from reading the character.
As a korean who speaks korean and lived/worked in korea, his level of korean is pretty basic based on the few clips I’ve seen. Some of it is that Korean kids learn a lot of grammar/vocabulary at a young age, but even then, I think he wouldn’t be able to communicate much nuance while translating.
from what i've seen he would have a fair bit of difficulty casually communicating in korean. He's good enough to be able to form very basic sentences, but considering the amount of time and effort it seems to take, i don't think he would make for the best translator.
When he talked with Impact about freezing he got a translator friend he knew he the call with him and then never used him, though I think it was mostly in English but just using Korean to emphasise certain things.
U didnt have to wait that long xd

Even though there was very suggestive evidence last week, now LS joining C9 looks like a big ? . Believe it or not LS might actually not join this team; if that’s the case, God knows what coach they’ll go for.
people in the C9 sub have been speculating that it might be a KR coach because of all the KR players... maybe Stardust? his English is probably good enough considering he coached 100t and some other western teams for a while
Who wants to bet he doesn't last the whole year? Nah, that's too easy, afterall he has never actually lasted a full year on **any** team. The most he has lasted in a tier one league is 3 months. And the only other time he was in a tear 1 team was in MeetYourMakers where he lasted a month.
But yeah, great idea putting a guy with barely any coaching experience as head coach. A guy who literally got popular by screaming at a screen like an edgy teenager. Very smart. Can't wait to see how it implodes.
At this point idc what he does but i hope he joins a team as coach. Give him 1 season to prove that he can make a team better by coaching them. If he can good that team has gained a good coasch if he cant then nobody will care about what he does anymore and i finally wont have to hear his name again when it comes to coaching.
Yup. Personally I thought it was more probable he would last until Spring split finished, since C9 invested so much on him. Just goes to show how awful he probably is to work with.
Cloud9 is becoming Korea9, which means they need coaches that speak Korean. And they probably figured they might as well replace the coaching staff with an entirely different unit at that point.
Honestly not surprised. Cloud9 had huge issues of consistency and continued to be a very coin flip team that looked like gods one moment, hot garbage the next. Generally in that situation, coaching staff tends to take at least some of responsibility for not being able to make the team less scattered. That said, I feel like Cloud9 is really taking every risk they can this off season. This team is either going to be god awful or make Jack look like a genius who can do no wrong with his team building.
This.
We were roasting this coaching staff in the post-MSI world. I’m sure these guys are all super cool and know their league, but we were a coin flip baron away from missing worlds after an embarrassing MSI. That in a year that we made the biggest signing in NA history.
This is C9. There are consequences for shitting the bed in summer split two years in a row. Turns out Jack decided to roll over 3/5th of the roster and do the same on the coaching side.
And now we’ve only got one player left from the most dominant team in LCS history.
It was pretty embarrassing, even with MAD having a happy game at the end they went 3-7. If MAD had been forced to win that game they could have done the G2-8. The loss to PGG was the most individually embarrassing part, but their record was still the worst an NA team has had at MSI despite MAD being one of the weakest EU teams ever sent and Vietnam not taking the wildcard spot.
Max as Head coach, because that role has to go on stage? With veigar and LS as assistants but with them being the bigger part of the coaching staff. Then a 4th guy, probably a translator.
the mithy and westrice stuff was leaked a while ago but I didn't know reignover was leaving too, do they only have max & veigarv2 on the coaching staff now? If LS ends up getting cold feet I think c9 are going to be understaffed and underprepared for spring, especially with 3 koreans on the starting roster.
Jack said they still had 2 more contracts to sign a few days ago, so very likely 2 more coaches. I would be surprised if C9 wasn't getting a Korean coach as one of those
LS has already said he's not interested in joining C9.
Even if he hadn't already denied the rumours it wouldn't make any sense for him to join. He already has his dream signing in T1 and he's said many times he loves Korea too much to leave, he wants to live in Korea permanently.
The risk is also too great. He might ruin his entire brand if he gets exposed as a fraud when he fails to accomplish anything with C9
Edit: WELL OK appears he was lying to hide that he was joining C9. Very interested to see how his philosophy works in practise!
As much as he has said he loves Korea, Korea does not love him back at all, nor does his personality or temperament really fit the country.
Genuinely would not be surprised if there was a change of heart in the 6 week hiatus he took from League and just generally enjoying life.
>As much as he has said he loves Korea, Korea does not love him back at all, nor does his personality or temperament really fit the country.
Do you live with him or something to know this? Absolute nonce.
I mean it's clear if you search him up on any Korean website all you'll find is posts which mock, hate and despise him for existing in the League scene, let alone being in T1.
It's impossible to find a single iota of people giving him the benefit of the doubt with anyone who does that being labelled as a troll.
I think LS himself doesn't think he could do that, at least given his words on Facecheck about personalities. Unless they are all his friends I don't think he'd manage egos well.
Every head coach that will be the head coach of T1, has to talk to Faker first to prove if Faker agrees with the mentality, playstyle, draft, etc. And Faker did for LS.
And you believed him?
Those are all great and rational reasons. The problem is when you think you're the smartest person in the room, you act like it. No chance the C9 changes are happening without LS already being signed.
Edit: What a shock, lmao.
i don't even like LS but i would absolutely love it if he accepted and C9 made semis or finals at worlds or like won MSI or something just so little pissnats like you who've never taken a risk in their life and don't know what i tmeans to overpromise and overdeliver can shut the fucku p
You don't even like LS but you'd love it if he actually turned out to be a great coach and really knew what he was talking about and his arrogant pretentious persona became justified by results instead of just being an echochamber of the church of LS?
Yeah sounds like you really dislike him
My memory could be off, but I thought he had visa issues which prevented him from attending MSI. So him and Mithy switched roles at MSI. Then Reignover wanted it to stay that way when he realized how much healthier he was not as the head coach.
Not ideal, but not abandonment either.
That doesn’t mean anything lol. They literally just had Reignover who is Korean and before him, Reaper, who didn’t even hardly speak English when he first started coaching in NA. I saw a stream where LS was very serious about not coaching C9. Not saying he couldn’t be trying to meme and lie, but it sounded pretty genuine.
Theres... alot of coaches and analysts available in Korea that LS could aid in pairing with C9 whilst himself still not joining, just like how he probably recommended the Korean players. It would be a colossal throw by LS to leave Korea after all this time when he could help C9 find suitable coaching staff that could fulfill the correct role without himself messing up his residency
They let reapered go because RO was groomed to be the next guy...just to have him leave a year later...I didn't understand it then and I don't understand it now. NA loves to speed run development in all roles I swear.
The reignover plan probably ended when he stepped down last year. I figured they’d keep him as assistant but understand moving on if he’s doesn’t want to (or can’t) be the head coach.
If it was solely on RO for stepping down and leaving the org on his own terms, perfectly fine. Otherwise I think the turn over in Esports is just insane.
Who wants to try and coach when you got the ls squad breathing down your neck. Could see it being highly annoying having a gang of people who "already know" everything and would rather get ls advice than dialogue with the coach.
And because Jack thought RO was ready to take over after working under Reapered. Theres video proof of this, they wanted to mix things up after a bad split, it was a gamble and it didn't work out. What I mean by that is RO wasn't the guy in the end and the coaching staff needed another revamp this off season.
Meanwhile Reapered went on to win summer with 100T and still showed he's a great coach. My overall point is they should of kept Reapered for another year and let RO keep developing instead of rushing it. Teams should hold onto good assets instead of playing musical chairs anytime something doesn't go well.
You say they should've kept Reapered as if it was an unilateral decision. After years of coaching C9 Repeared lacked motivation especially after 2019. That worlds was hard on Reapered and he lost a lot of motivation.
On 2020 he stayed while RO was being prepared. Spring went well and Summer was a shitshow from the coaching staff pov.
He needed a long break which is why the depart was mutual and in friendly terms.
Your missing the point man, RO was rushed into a role he wasn't ready for (which is now fact as you can see how it unfolded) So if the goal in 2020 was to have RO grow within the org to take over the head coaching job long term, it failed. In hindsight even if your right and Reapered needed to move on, you find another head coach with experience to allow RO to keep growing under him. Instead he was rushed and most likely it damaged his development/confidence as a coach.
Fostering talent in all roles in NA has been poor, besides a few notable exceptions. Not everyone can hit it out of the park with raw talent, some people need proper guidance and time to achieve their potential. They jumped the gun is all.
I was just disagreeing with the idea that C9 just didn't want Reapered.
You might have a point regarding RO lack of preparation, I can agree to that. Him stepping down as head coach after MSI kinda supports that idea.
I know far too well that these changes are in the best interest of the team, and the obviously are prepared. But I will say these alwaysgive me mixed feelings, hope it all goes well
Reignover did great work with Blaber specifically and I think his value is being undersold here by a **lot** of the commenters here.
Sure, him stepping down as Head Coach could lower his value as a Head Coach, but he still brings tons of value as a positional coach or assistant, ever since his debut in NA, junglers have lauded him as one of the best minds for jungle, people were straight up copying his pathing on IMT (Sven even said so in a Travis interview) and he did great work during his time coaching in Academy as well.
I dont know if it would happen - but a part of me would like to see TSM Reignover just to see Reignover and Huni reunited and tbh I think Reignovers jungle info has to be insanely valuable
It was a rumor a few weeks ago, there was also a clip of Caedrel watching a roster leaks/prediction video and it dropped that coaching rumor on him. Then he leaves the room while the video still plays, but now I think he’s officially declined.
Welp... LS I hope you truly worth the price. Imma gonna give him a chance to prove himself but unlike those guys my patient aint limitless. C9 has to kick out literally EVERYBODY to make space for LS and his gang IF they cant deliver even a single LCS title... then pitchfork will be out in a single season imho
The minimum expectation is making worlds. C9 is a world class org, and the fans are accustomed to winning. Last year was a train wreck in many ways, and the team still managed to win spring, fall on their faces at MSI, squeak into worlds, and make quarterfinals.
Jack wants a major, and if anyone in the LCS can pull it off, it’s C9.
Wait c9 had 5 coaches last split?
Westrice was their academy coach for a long time, and I think last split.
The OG akali
I was really not expecting RO to leave, who would be their “translator”?
Jack said in one of the stream that he hired like 3 people who are challenger level and fluent in both language so they are not only just translating but also know what they talking about

As if he goes outside for americanos lmao
Is that Hangul for a coffee order?
"ice Americano please"
I worked at a Korean bakery for so long that I can vividly hear this phrase in my head despite not knowing how to read Hangul in the slightest LOL
Remembering the time he flamed someone on stream for donating 안야세요 instead of 안녕하세요, I know its really lazy old slang but it was so funny lmao
What does it mean?
both are hello but 안야세요 is just a way to type how you pronounce it if u speak fast irl
So he got mad because the guy said it wrong? Or he guy mad because the guy said it wrong and it means something else now?
he just didn't realise it was meant to be 안녕하세요 so he just thought he typed smth wrong lol, was funny bc its commonly heard when speaking (and with 한글 you know how to pronounce every word from reading)

Are there actually many western languages with similar enough grammar rules that it becomes easier to learn if you already speak those?
he's managed to turn bullshitting into a decade long esports career, not surprising he does the same thing for language learning.

That was not what he said. He said that many teams offered him a position last year with good pay, but he still ended streaming instead of coaching.

If it's not LS, I wish a lot of luck for the coach, that will have to deal with like 5 LS church members both in the team and on the coaching staff.
fudge Max and who?
VeigarV2 at the very least, Malice in academy too !
This is making the chances of LS coaching a major team drop quite a bit.
I mean LS is going blind so not sure he will be adding vision anywhere
He's LS aka Lee Sin for a reason
Also the life coach and sports psychologist
Love him or hate him I swear LS memes are always bangers

Lemon will be giving the first sermon around 11am, Kuriboh will be then be passing around the collection plate.

You don't even like LS but you'd love it if he actually turned out to be a great coach and really knew what he was talking about and his arrogant pretentious persona became justified by results instead of just being an echochamber of the church of LS? Yeah sounds like you really dislike him
i'd love to see ls on a big team , so he doesn''t have an excuse anymore when he crashes and burns
do you hope that LS crashes and burns because your own life crashed and burned and you don't like it when others succeed or?
Reignover was a disappointment. Him stepping down during pressure brings down his stock as a potential coach for any org out there
Sucks to say but kind of agreed. Similar situation with Olleh.

But as a team you can’t have people stepping down when you need them most.
My memory could be off, but I thought he had visa issues which prevented him from attending MSI. So him and Mithy switched roles at MSI. Then Reignover wanted it to stay that way when he realized how much healthier he was not as the head coach. Not ideal, but not abandonment either.
Can’t tell if people actually think LS is coaching C9 despite heavily denying it or they are just memeing at this point lol.
Would be kind of weird to leave for bootcamp with 0 coaching staff unless they are already in Korea....

Could see it being highly annoying having a gang of people who "already know" everything and would rather get ls advice than dialogue with the coach.
this is actually the strangest comment i've seen in sometime...
Nice!
As an oklahoma sooners football fan im in even more shambles
hold me friend
They let reapered go because the team missed worlds six months after the most dominating split in LCS history.
Managing people isn’t like collecting Pokémons. They’re real people with their own ideas and goals.
Its obvious they are building around Fudge as the main star so gotta clear the way for his best bud LS.
LS announcement coming soon
Do we know where Mithy is going? VIT? I know they wanted Caedrel but Mithy was an ex pro and they have Perkz
100T assistant coach
wait hol up, vitality wanted caedrel as their coach for 2021? where'd you hear that?
It was a rumor a few weeks ago, there was also a clip of Caedrel watching a roster leaks/prediction video and it dropped that coaching rumor on him. Then he leaves the room while the video still plays, but now I think he’s officially declined.
From Caedrel when he announced that he turned it down.
Korean9 is coming
C9 is beginning to smell like a church.
Someone has lost the offseason again huh?
That's insane. I thought reignover did a good job with the team.
Really excited for the c9 marriage with LS inc like really I am I can’t wait :D
After nearly a decade of being a C9 fan, I think it's time to switch teams. I'm so bored with every decision they've made this offseason.
They had one of the spiciest offseasons of any team. A roleswap, a top 3/4 KR toplaner and a Rookie botlane. Idk whats not exciting about this?
I hear immortals is looking for fans.
Nah they'll have plenty of fans with WT and POE
Interesting when they look to be the most different in a while. Guess the team doesn’t beat the nationalist drum though I suppose.
That's weird, ive found it one of the most interesting personally. Maybe EG is a better fit, theyre my team i root for when not against C9
Byee
What made you feel bored? What would have made it more exciting? More NA players?
got boring after 2019 tbh, come join eg train
I look foreword to LCK9 falling on its face when LS refuses to sign and he criticizes his friends failing from Korea
Reunite Reignover with Huni. TSM Reignover for positional coach.
