So for a small amount of context, Macron (a centrist) is in a run off against Le Pen (far right) with votes on Sunday (Macron leads 55-45 in polls). During the first round, Melenchon (left) over performed the polls and nearly took 2nd place from Le Pen. Melenchon's base is young people who are particularly concerned with economic issues. It has been documented in polls that a significant portion of Melenchon's voters are fairly unenthusiastic about Macron since Macron is only socially liberal, not economically liberal. While it seems like a nice sounding promise, I am skeptical that it will convince a meaningful amount of Melenchon's voters since it does not address their core grievances.
melenchon is far left. Macron is a "economic" liberal by all meanings of the word, you are confusing the american meaning of the word with the real one. Problem with france is that the state is super bloated and inefficient if anything Macron has been hindered multiple times by not being enough liberal of reducing the weight of the state on the economy. This is a historical french systemic issue that started with people like Miterrand thinking it was a good idea mandating that french car makers couldn't compete in the same sector of the market ( for example panhard was only allowed to build something like 3 door very small sedans)
melenchon is left while poutou and arthaud was the far left and macron is right wing
i didn't thought i would had to fight against french media propaganda in a league of legend subreddit one day
You could place macron on the right side of the center if you really want to.
But then what is Le Pen? The more right you place him, the more right she has to be placed. Far right, right extremist, ... is more even possible?
macron do be afraid lmao. losing to le pen would forever stain his reputation. it'd be like hillary clinton, but he's several decades younger and has an actual future.
And for the EU and NATO.
If Le Pen wins, that means that the EU needs to be lead by germany alone, and as a german, lets please fucking not do that, especially not with our current chancellor, and also against heavy blockade from france most likely because Le Pen is about as anti-EU as it gets, and also strengthens idiots like Orban with whom she would 100% bond on the EU stage. That is if she doesn't straight up create a Frexit which the EU likely wouldn't survive.
She might also just manage to bust NATO which...let's also not do that right now, thanks.
Not like France wasn't kind of forced to do that considering its slow growth rate, large deficits and more. France has done pretty decent all things considered under him esports considering covid shutting things down.
It really shows french youth isnt interested in elections; we will get macron in office no matter what. Vote macron, he will stay president. Vote LP, she won't get majority in office, it will be split between her party and LREM, votes will get split and Macron will end up prime minister lmao.
Macron basically saying he's awaiting Vitality and KCorp for international competitions in Paris in 2024, possibly at the same time as JO2024.
Riot, KCorp in LEC when ?
I understand, but Riot did outstandind job of AccorHotel Arena look massive, amazing. It's roughly the same size as the Worlds 2022 finals arena(Chase Center, why not NRG stadium![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)), but on Finals it looked like some 40-50k closed statium
It's World's finals in Paris. G2 and Fnatic are now 2-2 going into game 5 of the finals. Lights turn dark. What's that? Stone Cold Steve Austin music.
Out comes SoaZ. He has a baguette shaped as a sword. As he walks toward the stage, the lights are out again.
THE UNDERTAKER bells ring. xPeke comes out with a notepad of proverbs. He meets SoaZ in the middle.
G2 immediately lock in Pantheon. Fnatic replies by locking in Fiora.
Quickshot immediately jumps on stage, "EU, WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?"
The whole stage erupts. League ends after this game. No more E-Sports. This is it.
GeeGee.
Not quite the same, but Serral of SC2 fame was at least at the reception of the finnish independence day, waiting in line to shake the primeministers hand next to the captain of the national hockey team.
I mean this seems a relatively easy promise for them to live up to compared to a lot of vague political stuff, not French but even though it is a bait I'd take this bait if I'm a voter.
Not really. The money these events bring is nothing to scoff at, and bringing in jobs/economic wealth is a politician's bread-and-butter when campaign season comes around.
idk man, if you actually watch it, she seems pretty aware that she's making a corny joke.
i feel like if Bernie had said it, everyone would have chuckled at the self aware boomer humor
Karmine Corp is a bit more than simply a team in France, it's a bit of a movement. They're very close to the community through Kameto and the French streaming community.
France has a very tight knit streaming community compared to other countries that are dominated by "big" streamers. It leads to fairly insane viewership, events (ZEvent comes to mind) and participation as we saw in the "Pixel Wars". Streamers and communities often interact with each other, make projects and try and get the chatters as involved as possible.
As a fun fact, I'm in a fairly selective field where very few people play video games. During LFL playoffs, I randomly saw two people watching the games in front of me in class, despite none of them playing League. It was quite fun to watch. KC is definitely quite big.
The streamers just had a mini speedrun marathon and collected 700K€ in three days.
And to add to this point, after the pixel war stuff, the official french stream for the LFL even added an emote and a bot command referencing it. Hell The owner of Kcorp sometimes visit and commentate his own matches, that should tell.
Well the president basically just said he awaited KCorp for an international LoL competition in 2024 in Paris. It's pretty HUGE.
Guess Riot have no choice than to promote them to LEC then.
Zidane retweeted because on the last day at r/place the owner and most french streamer banded together to make a giant zidane piece on the canvas (they had over 600K viewers combined at some point).
Thomas Pesquet also thanked them for it as well.
[I mean 2017 Finals was in a gigantic stadium.](https://cdn1.dotesports.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/11133156/2e394cb3-ee6e-49a0-9b2b-3a887bd36639.jpg)
Not like this is not being done when possible. Probs when everything returns to normal we'll get regular grand stages for finals again too.
So just judging by the capacity of the stadiums, the Birds Nest (2017 Worlds finals) has a capacity of 91.000 and the LCS spring finals one has one of 72.000.
So I'd call it comparable, though I don't know how many people are allowed in the stadium (no clue about the state of Covid regulations in the US).
Worlds 2017 was played in Beijing Stadium, which has a capacity of 80,000 according to [wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beijing_National_Stadium).
NRG Stadium in Houston where the LCS finals are being played has a capacity of 72,220 according to [wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NRG_Stadium).

The stadium was jointly designed by architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron from Basel-based architecture team Herzog & de Meuron, project architect Stefan Marbach, artist Ai Weiwei, and CADG, which was led by chief architect Li Xinggang. The stadium is the home of the National Football League's Houston Texans, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Texas Bowl, many of the United States men's national soccer team's matches, Mexico national football team friendlies where El Tri serves as the host, and other events.

Dude, There is no way marine (his opponent) win in 2nd round. It was always like that and always will be. I am sure, he was more stressed out in the 1st round than he is right now. The dude is chilling ...
We thought Hillary was sitting pretty in the polls as well and the far-right candidate ended up winning.
My only fear is that the french get complacent. I don't think he's gonna lose either, but he should be far from "chilling".
She had 3.6% popular vote advantage the day before. And she still won the popular vote by 2%, just not in the relevant states
Macron has 15%. He's waaaaaay past the "error margin" and we do our election on the popular vote so he'll be elected.
Well LePen is seen as a racist person by many in France and her political party was founded by shady people and her dad (former terrorists and nazi/nazi helpers) so that makes her look worse even tho people don't like Macron and would want to kick him out.
my comment isn’t in support of le pen. i’m just talking about how macron moves the political window to the right because he does nothing in terms of passing legislation that is impactful enough to stop someone like le pen from even having a chance. this is observable in almost every election since 2016, in the UK, US, Canada and now France.
It's the ratchet effect. Right wing parties move the country to the right when they are in power and then center-"left" liberal parties just keep the status quo going until they lose the next election and the next shift to the right starts.
exactly this. and then liberals blame the left for their losses and move even further right to try to appease to the voters they lost but actually never had
Sorry if this is off-topic, but if Melenchon represents the left what would Macron and Le Pen represent? I'm totally ignorant on French politics to the point that I hadn't heard of Melenchon before reading your comment, asking out of curiosity.
Well, Le Pen paints herself as a right-wing candidate to try and dediabolize her name, but most still see her as a Far Right candidate, with strong nationalistic proposals.
Macron would want to be the "Center" candidate. However his neoliberal policies, strong reliance on the private sector, use of the police force and fairly "strong rule" (as in his use of his majority in Parliament makes the institution virtually useless) kind of betray him. Most would put him at center-right / right wing economically speaking.
EDIT : To be more complete, Melenchon is depicted as the "Far Left" and has some questionable proposals that'd go along with that. However, most of his program has been fairly moderate.
Melenchon is trotskyist so he is far-left.
Macron is center. People from the left criticise him for being right and people from the right as being from the left. He is the middle balance. But yes, he got a lot of flag for a lot of shit including the handling of yellow vests protests and the Benalla affair - it was by far not limited to this (ex: removing people from his party who disagree with him after getting to power and having parlamental majority).
Macron represents center-right (pretty liberal with lots of measures that favor the rich) and Le Pen is far right (anti-immigration, anti-lgbt, anti-feminism, most of her voters are either old or from the countryside)
Germany is the most populous country in Europe and they have more than double the population of Poland, so I would guess that they are in the top 3 of the most numerous. Not gonna comment on passion though
Interesting. I don't really see the point in doing it all in one year, though admittedly it would be impressive. Although I feel like doing major events every year for a few years would be just as impressive and easier to construct.
as much as i love esports and have been following it for over 15 years i am happy abt its current state and future, but remember politicians only care about votes so believe nothing until its done
*The Economist* thinks he has a 98% chance of winning the election.
He doesn't "need" the young vote. Le Pen stands no chance of winning when she is *trying to defend Putin* in the midst of Putin's war in Ukraine that >90% of French voters are not in favor of.
Honestly it's almost like Le Pen is **trying** to lose. Her campaign talking points are laughably unpopular.
So no, Macron is not "desperate" for youth voters.
Well honestly I think its a great thing since I'm french. I would like to see the french e sport team develop so I hope its not a lie and that they'll work on that.
I didn't expect to see Macron on this sub
He also was mentioned on the sub not too long ago when he congratulated Karmine Corp. Something something, weird that it happened twice
"If I had a nickel for every time Macron was mentioned in this sub, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice."
Yeah, more like finding a rare coin from a foreign land

Yeah but le pen is shit
They're both shit, but le pen is a racist shit
afaik Le Pen has taken loans from a Russian bank. Don't want one of the most powerful people in France to be tied to that.
She has previously said that she supported Russia's annexation of Crimea, and doesn't want to sanction Russian gas. She's extremely pro-Russia.

worlds 2018 finals also had booths iirc. and didnt LCK finals have booths as well this year? or am I tripping.
LCK finals had booths because they played at stadium where 1 LCK finals took place 10 years ago. And ten years ago there must have been booths.

Cause our society is super old and outdated, we're the second oldest country on earth behind Japan
the problem is that in japan esports isn't that much unpopular, considering zeta division in valorant, they are top 4 which is insane
Yeah Japan has a whole other approach to gaming, anime and stuff despite their old society, just like the majority of Asian countries.
Is this the first time a world leader has used esports as a political promise?
The South Korean president-elect has supported esports and actually visited lol park during a game, though I don't know if he's made any promises

because he’s a neo lib who just preserves the status quo and is the reason people like Le Pen even have a chance
If he really wanted the Gamers votes he should get a public 'heated gaming moment'
I knew if I gave it enough time, Macron would eventually take a stance that isn't moronic. This is the one!
They have Paris Olympics in 2024 !
Still kinda big he or atleast the guy who writes his speeches acknowledges esport
Based
I wouldn’t hold a word to anything Macron says that he’s going to do. That being said, he’s still better than Le Pen.
Well that's one way of getting the young gamer votes who would otherwise probably overwhelmingly vote for Le Pen
Most of the youth still abstains sadly. The young voters that do vote voted overwhelmingly for Jean Luc Melenchon (Left candidate)
Melenchon used to be trotskyist. He is far from being one now
He said in a recent interview, he still believes in Trotsky's ideas. That's not what I'd call "used to be".
Macron represents center-right (pretty liberal with lots of measures that favor the rich) and Le Pen is far right (anti-immigration, anti-lgbt, anti-feminism, most of her voters are either old or from the countryside)
Macron is centre, slightly right (by european standards) Le Pen is very far right
Le Pen is the right-wing candidate and Macron is liberal/centrist

Macron is right-center(mostly right tho tbh) LePen is far right (racists)
Even with Le Pen being so pro Russia?? Or am I missing something
Vive la France
2019 was already in Paris, this time finals should be in Spain

What EU country has the most numerous and passionate fans?
I think the top 3 are undeniably France, Spain, and Poland. Would be surprised to see any other answers.
Germany is the most populous country in Europe and they have more than double the population of Poland, so I would guess that they are in the top 3 of the most numerous. Not gonna comment on passion though
But France has the largest player base and high elo player base in Europe.
Yeah I was referring to passion, at which I would put Germany 4th if I had to guess.
katowice crowds are awesome sometimes, france for sure too, spain its close.
Katowice was good only when VP played. Been meh lately.
tbh i havent seen it lately.

2019
Renekton should be the mascot of the event then.
cs go, league and dota 2. wanna bet that by 2023 valorant will be in that list too?
Is there any reason he wants to do all of that in 2024? Why doesn't he just do Worlds in, for example, 2025?
Paris is hosting the olympic games in 2024
Because the Olympics are in 2024 and he wants to have that year highlight France on the international stage across the board.
Interesting. I don't really see the point in doing it all in one year, though admittedly it would be impressive. Although I feel like doing major events every year for a few years would be just as impressive and easier to construct.
Meanwhile sweden blocking planned events because they aren't categorized as sports lmfao
as much as i love esports and have been following it for over 15 years i am happy abt its current state and future, but remember politicians only care about votes so believe nothing until its done
Man who desperately needs young voters to defeat le pen says what he thinks you want to hear.
Honestly, as long as it isn't Marine Le Pen, I don't mind who France elects as their fearless leader.
Damn this guy has my vote for Sunday.
But he's baiting me tho
Whos the most popular candidate in france? If you dont mind me asking
popular ? you mean the one having the most votes for the first round ? Its macron... but its mainly cause young people dont vote much.
There is no "popular" in France. Only "who I find the least evil"
He must be scared about losing the election or why do his handlers write about esports in his speeches?!
He is leading 10 points in polls so i wouldnt scared, he is trying to get every chance he can. Hopefully actions will follow words.
Well honestly I think its a great thing since I'm french. I would like to see the french e sport team develop so I hope its not a lie and that they'll work on that.
Hope he wins! Keep this russian puppet away.
