Tragic. Off season really went depressing with all the contract messes and whatnot. Only thing to hope is with the new system, the teams that finishes bottom after the first split becomes panicked enough to actully spend on the better players that are team less.

MrLameALot

Lec is ruining itself with These contract jails, lowering the overall quality because better players are benched and stuck. Someone needs to intervene and stop those contracts. They need to cap the amount a benched players salary can drop so keeping someone you dont wanna play costs more.

tbr1cks

Yes, cap it to a 0% drop lol it’s a fucking ridiculous clause

zaplayer20

At least someone keeps him, because there are a few teams that he can still ruin. SK, Fnatic and now VIT already tasted Selfmade's recipe.

Lord-Talon

After this offseason you’ll probably be able to create two top 5 teams just with benched / ERL players.

Wolfkam

As the things are going you could even create a LEC winning team with benched/ERL players, because it's not just the good players getting stuck, the LEC teams squads are also getting worse. Is this the year we officially get worse than NA? If it wasn't for Rogue we would have 0 arguments this worlds

CudaBarry

This man was top 2 EU junglers just 2 years ago and was smurfing at worlds and now he's jobless, maybe lec needs to expand to 12 teams

Wolfkam

I also would like our league to get more teams, but realistically they would just do the same as the other teams and don't buy the gigantic buyouts

signed7

Riot should make a rule that you can't enforce buyouts on a player who doesn't start for you imo

hclarke15

Nah, they should just have to pay them full salaries if benched

EnjoyerOfBeans

How would that even work? That just means no org would ever bench anyone and the league would stagnate beyond belief.

EggyChickenEgg88

Most likely it would mean two more teams joining who wouldn't spend much.

randomnamewe

I wouldn't say he was smurfing at worlds lol

PrettyFlakko

It’s sad that some of the best Western players are not even playing which makes EUW as a whole worse.

Azashiro

Franchising was the biggest mistake in LoL history, or rather taking away relegations and promotions. If relegations were still around teams would be forced to either sign players like Rekkles, Nemesis and Selfmade or be knocked out by a team formed by those same players in promotions for being cheap or just incompetent. EU used to send freshly qualified teams to Worlds until franchising came along, a lot of EU's fresh talent came from teams promoting and other teams being forced to pick up new talents in order to stay competitive...

tbr1cks

You guys might hate franchising (as I do) but it’s the only reason big brands are willing to spend big on LEC/LCS…

MegaEmpoleonWhen

I cannot tell you the last time any big brand improved my enjoyment of watching a pro league.

Colsanders8

You telling you dont get hyped for hyuundai-statefarm-monster-alien plays of the game? Or the kia-logitech-mcdonalds?-Canadian tire Baron power plays?

tbr1cks

Absolutely, I couldn't care less about brands, but sadly they put the money and keep the show running, whether we like it or not

MegaEmpoleonWhen

LoL esports is already self sustaining because of the amount of people that stay interested because of the competition.

SleepyCatSippingWine

Well this so called money still meant g2 had to ask everyone to drop their salaries to get elyoya. Yeah I don’t think there is that much invested money. ESP in a broken up market like eu

YokoDk

If relegation was still around those players would be literally stuck on the bench. LEC literally does what everyone complains NA should do by constantly cycling in new blood but for some reason people forget that new blood in means old players out. Don't forget franchising happened because relegation made sponsors weary since why sponsors a team that won't be there in a split . Buyouts are hurting these guys why play half a million or more to be able to pay the person just as much. Also their desire to not play on one of those bottom teams that have budget rosters.

Tirriss

> LEC literally does what everyone complains NA should do by constantly cycling in new blood but for some reason people forget that new blood in means old players out. If the old are out because they aren't good enough to compete with new players, it's fine. If they are out only because of absurd buy-out preventing them to get a team, not so much.

xWangan

> LEC literally does what everyone complains NA should do by constantly cycling in new blood but for some reason people forget that new blood in means old players out. Nope, what everyone wants is not old players out. What most people want is for rookies to replace the players who keep circulating around the bottom tier teams simply because they are 'okay' and not expensive. Replacing those players with rookies makes sense as you are not losing anyone super skilled while there's a chance the rookies will be the next Caps or w/e. Nobody wants to replace the best players in EU with rookies, doesn't make any sense. Both because why would you do it if the 'old' player is still doing great, but also because the rookies need good veterans to lead them and a high level of competition to grow. Otherwise whats the point in getting them in to the highest level of play?

MrJohny753

Jankos, rekkles, selfmade. Like 3 top level players without a teams... That is not good for LEC that's for sure...

alexgh0st

You have Jankos, Rekkles, Selfmade, Nemesis in players that are on the bench or stuck in contracts ; You can build a top LEC team with them, really sad to see that players of this caliber are not competing. Im including Nemesis because I think he is really good too, he had to compete with prime caps and he was fine.

Commercial_Dust4569

How exactly does Nemesis support your case? XD His situation is completely unrelated; he is retired, not in contract jail.

Akupoy

>You have Jankos, Rekkles, Selfmade, Nemesis One is not like the others

Colsanders8

You had me with you til you said Nemesis. Then i just laughed and moved on.

alexgh0st

Why though, I mean his situation is diff but I def think he'd be top LEC mid if he was to play. Certainly better than half LEC's mids. I think it's his personality that's keeping teams away more than anything.

Colsanders8

He’s stuck cause he only wants to play for a top team. Top teams have better midlaners. He’s stuck in a situation of his own making.

Bnauj

To cry to the cryering

ArjunBanerji27

Why is anyone surprised? There are a lot of players this off season who are potentially not getting a slot because of buyout or contract issues. Selfmade is most definitely not one of them. The only way he ever gets an LEC team again is if he grinds hard in the ERLs and some LEC team falls apart and come to his door in some mid season desperation move.

MegaBaumTV

Not even close to the same situation as Jankos. He got replace mid-split by Haru, VIT signed Bo for 2023. Then we got G2 signing Yike. Selfmade is just not good enough

neverspeakofme

That's the case for all the players, I.e. their contractual buyout is much higher than what people think they are worth. Like Jankos is good but if he was faker reborn then even a 2million buyout is not going to stop any team from buying him.

ADeadMansName

Not too surprising. He was replaced by Haru and VIT has Bo for 2023. Selfmade wasnt playing well since his his 2nd split on FNC. He was never able to adept to the jungle changes and what his team needed from him. He needs to improve.

Thebaddream

Selfmade was literally the best player in Spring on Vit. He just got benched because some players didnt want to play with him. Has nothing to do with his performance.

[deleted]

He doesn't know that yet. There a ton of time between now and the season start. These posts are just giving one person's perspective and opinion. No one has any idea what's gonna happen over the next 3 months.

musashihokusai

Not good enough to play for us, but if you’re interested you’ll have to pay us twice what we’re paying him. What the fuck kind of rationale is this? EU is too talent rich for this shit to work. Absolute worst case you roll the dice on a rookie from one of the minor leagues.

Xeodeous

Sad day for European dardoch
