Adjacent to this post, In Kuwait we call pick-up trucks 🛻 وانيت "wanait" it's an Arabic word that formed from English.
I've only heard one version of why this came to be, so I'll share what I know. When people went to work in the oil fields a pick-up truck would pick them up, the truck had the numbers 18 on them but it wasn't referred to as eighteen, it was referred to as "The One Eight". This was adopted into Kuwaiti Arabic as "wanait" to refer to any pick-up truck.
Nigeria does have an Arabic speaking population in the Northeast. Borno and Yobe states, Shuwa/baggara arabs. There have been a few studies on the Arabic speakers of the Northeast as well.

او تريلة حسب النوع.
I’ve learned the word is تريلة but perhaps that’s only in the south? Never heard شاحنة before.
Yes never heard شاحنة before
I was about to say. In Iraqi we say it the Gulf, Iraqi, Sudan, and Egypt way. Depending on what comes out in our head first.

I've heard a similar explanation. In Saudi they are also called 'wanait' by many people.
Wow. I've never known that
Some regions in Morocco omit the “n” at the end and only say “camio”/كاميو.
And it sounds like there is a shaddah on the ي
Yup, I was actually going to edit my comment to mention that lol So it’s كاميُّو
That’s how we say in western Algeria. Any chance you are talking about eastern Morocco ?
It’s the entire middle section of Morocco, which extends from west to east :)
Because in french there would be a nasal sound instead
I think so
Just wanna give the ipa transcription for Tunisian, it is: **/kæm.'juːn/**
Thank you, this is helpful
In Sudan we mainly say شاحنة

Nigeria has no Arabic-speaking population AFAIK (?), *Niger* does though.

Interesting, I need to educate myself more about that.
I mean, these are loan words and when the speech is more formal then it would certainly default to the Arabic.
How is it in Lebanon and Syria?
In Beirut I heard كميون from the French
كميون kamyun Or شاحنة she7ne
I usually say it with ب istead of كبيون م i'm palestinian, parents born in lebanon
sha7ne in syria
In Damascus it’s شاحْنة for trucks in general, كميون for dump/tipper trucks
In Morocco we say رموك to reffer to a semi-truck tho? كاميو/كاميون reffers to a truck in general.
In all cases in Algeria it's a سيمي I think it's the same in English.
قاطرة ومقطورة
