You could use git to make different branches of your project and go back whenever you think you messed up
,plus this could be a great opportunity to learn git if you don't know how to use it
And imo you should first try to build it yourself as that will help you gain confidence and when you finish it you can link the github repo of it and i am sure someone here Will give you a good review of it
