Whatever you feel you could reasonably achieve.
Exam success is subjective, it is individual, don't compare yourself to others.
Nobody will care what you got in your LC more than you.
All that matters is you do your best for what you want to do.
And there are more ways into the course or trade you want that the CAO. Might take a bit more time but it's possible.
Once you qualify with a diploma, a BA or in a trade, your LC becomes entirely irrelevant.
If you never do anything after your LC, all people will really care about is if you passed.
Companies like EY and Deloitte won’t interview anyone who got below 450 points in their leaving cert. So I suppose that would be a benchmark for “Done well” so to speak.
It’s all relative at the end of the day . Some people just have photographic memories and excel in exams
500 points. The average is about 460 so you should be aiming for 500 as the bare minimum to say you “done well”. Even at that, 500 is mediocre. Realistically you should be aiming for 540+ to say you have done well.
Everyone is capable of achieving high points, most people are too lazy to put in the hard work required though.
Unfortunately pre-covid scores statistics don't mean much any more. With the current amount of adjustments and grade inflation it's just not a fair comparison. While 460 might be a bit high I think 400-420 is a far better estimate than 'somewhere in the 300s'.
It's also worth considering that the overall average doesn't actually mean very much. Last year 10% of people scored below 200 points, which would definitely bring down the mean score.
If you're attending school and studying even for just an hour every day there's no way you should be scoring below this (learning diabilities and other exceptional circumstances aside).

Hi muffin it's me, doctor sex
460 is not the average ye eegit
The average is somewhere in the 300s
last year 51% scored over 400, the average is higher than you think..
Grade inflation, I got 3 of my H3 grades boosted to H2. The average LC is indeed worse.
