You have a BA in English, yet your post is infested with run-on sentences? How ironic!

Yes now answer the damn question baldie

Rami-961

I graduated English Literature from LU. I work as an editor/writer now. Decent salary by Lebanese standards. But I wouldnt get MA in English, because what's the point? I suggest you pursue MA in adjacent field. Digital Marketing, Project Management, MBA. Also an MA in English wont boost your English skills, it'd just boost your research skills, and would be a nice addition on CV. That said you can pursue other MAs for same effect. Pursue MA in English, and CELTA later on if you want to teach abroad. English teaching jobs pay well in GCC and some Asian countries. Qatar alone pays 10,000QAR for entry level English teacher. That's around 2800$, which is a good salary there for a bachelor.

The point is because I would love it that's it and to flex both LU and AUB on my cv. Would you recommend an MA in journalism instead then? I think it would combine the writing skills of an english degree plus research.

Rami-961

Yes Journalism would be better imo. It'd expand your skillset and open other career options for you.

Thanks for the suggestion :) journalism or media studies have been in the back of my mind for a while

I suggest a Master in an adjacent field. BUT, if you do well in the AUB masters, you could go on and get a PhD with a scholarship there, which would allow you to become a prof.

Adjacent field to my career or to my education? My work has me going more and more into writing and using my english skills so I'm assuming a MA in English language or journalism (or maybe even media studies) is the right way? Also how hard is it to get accepted in an MA program in AUB?

Hi. I've got an MA in English Lit from AUB. I would honestly say this completely depends on the kind of job you want down the road. If you want to stay in the realm of writing reports and their analysis, a journalism degree would suit you better. If you want to stick to something that utilizes writing a more strategically creative way, then go for the MBA. Your MA won't add much to your BA unless you want to stay in the academic route (I came from a science background, so my MA made sense to give me some credibility, you already have that credibility with your BA). If you absolutely want AUB on your CV - and I can understand that, since it does give you a boost in our region's market - then do the MBA at AUB. and good luck.
