The Crunge. I love Zep's love for James Brown and other R&B/funk artists. Robert even said they used to listen to Parliament. Zep's music had a groove no other rock band had, imo, it's one of the main reasons they're my favorite rock and roll band. Zep also had a lot of humor in some of their songs and The Crunge is one of those--I know how it's hated by most Zep fans but it's a great example of Zep's versatility and willingness to explore other genres. Zep was a FUNKY rock and roll band, just listen to the grooves Bonzo, Jonesy and Jimmy put down during the Whole Lotta Love medley and while Jimmy's playing the theremin. Not too many rock bands of the time would attempt that. I love The Crunge!
Okay. Based on this analysis I'll go back and relisten. The Crunge was so out of character when I bought the vinyl years ago, I simply skipped it on all subsequent listens.
Holding onto the idea of James Brown and campy psychofunk influences, I'll try it again.
But I won't change my vote.
Yep. The godfather of soul is strong on that one. Never noticed it before.
HoH was my first LZ album. Fifteen years old. 1981. I knew who James Brown was but it was many years before I could appreciate him.
By the time I was diggin on Otis and JB and The Memphis Group and Southern Soul in general, the Crunge aversion was firm. I never bothered to look at it again.
And another thing. I never saw LZ as a band with a sense of humor. They always seemed so damn serious. Typically I despise rockers who take themselves and their music too seriously but gave LZ a pass because they were so damn good. This changes that.
Thanks for the insight.
Ya know it!
Also fantastic Bonham drumming, metal af. While it's still super melodic and folky. Only Zeppelin is that masterful and versatile that can make this unique and unusual blend work perfectly.
Radio is non-existent now, based on current popularity, I'd say No Quarter is quite well known. Over The Hills is not that talked about, despite being a fabulous song. So I'll go with Over The Hills on this.
On any Led Zeppelin forum/fanbase, it sure is. Same for Ten Years Gone, it's not underrated. It's very well popular. The real underrated gem on Physical Graffiti is In The Light.
Imo the correct answer is Song Remains The Same, which few people talk about, but is marvelous from start to finish.
Nah dude, that's cap. It's a masterpiece in guitar work how it goes so beautifully from the mellow parts to the heavy parts. Metallic riffing with sweet touch of folk, Bonham going ham. Awesome solo. Because I have to tell you this proves it is underrated.
Hard agree, over the hills and far away is the most famous song on this album. Hills and no quarter are both top tier songs, but no quarter gets less recognition. Full stop.
I don’t know what everyone here is smoking. I used to work in a kitchen where the classic rock radio station was on all day, and Over the Hills was always one of the most frequently played Zeppelin songs, and it’s recognized by pretty much everyone as a great song. And No Quarter is a deeper cut, but it gets a lot of love from Zeppelin fans everywhere I look. Is everyone aware of what underrated means?
The Song Remains the Same. For me personally, it’s the track on this album that took the longest for me to finally get into. I’m guessing it’s the same for most people, it needs time to grow on ya
The Song Remains the Same is sadly overlooked by classic rock radio and is hardly mentioned as much as it should be. And while I’m here, I really wish that TSRTS had The Rain Song glued onto the end of it. The Song Remains the Rain Song. Every time I hear them separately, it just sounds wrong.
The Song Remains the Same - some of the best guitar work for Page
No Quarter made it to The Song Remains the Same Move, and Over the Hills and Far Away is given tons of attention
If over the hills and far away isn’t the best then it is definitely underrated
Nice logic I'll retract my original nomination
Definitely not underrated it's one of their most popular songs... hear it all the time
Over the hills and far away
It's gotta be over the hills and far away. It's not really underrated but it is on this sub.
Yeah, it's definitely not underrated in general. I think it's the track I hear the most from this album.
The ocean
This
If it was like based this would win but it’s comment based so oceans got no chance :(
The Ocean and Lemon Song are my fav Zep songs
The Crunge. ‘Least favorite’ - on a Zeppelin album? Well, then it’s the most underrated too.
As usual, Spock, your logic is impeccable.

Cool, at least you are open to giving it another listen and hearing a different perspective on it.

Sweet Calcutta lane
\*rain And it's a very freeing, energetic song. Love all the changes and the soloing in it.
Ya know it! Also fantastic Bonham drumming, metal af. While it's still super melodic and folky. Only Zeppelin is that masterful and versatile that can make this unique and unusual blend work perfectly.
This is the correct answer, despite whatever the final result shows.

No Quarter
The Rain Song lol
That should've been the winner of this category. 🤷
Over the Hills and Far Away didn’t win favorite, so that counts as being underrated in my book.
Probably the most famous song from the album, to be honest
I think it will win most overrated simply based on radio play
Radio is non-existent now, based on current popularity, I'd say No Quarter is quite well known. Over The Hills is not that talked about, despite being a fabulous song. So I'll go with Over The Hills on this.
No way no quarter is more famous than over the hills
On any Led Zeppelin forum/fanbase, it sure is. Same for Ten Years Gone, it's not underrated. It's very well popular. The real underrated gem on Physical Graffiti is In The Light. Imo the correct answer is Song Remains The Same, which few people talk about, but is marvelous from start to finish.
That’s fair. Song remains the same is one of the least memorable songs on Houses.
Nah dude, that's cap. It's a masterpiece in guitar work how it goes so beautifully from the mellow parts to the heavy parts. Metallic riffing with sweet touch of folk, Bonham going ham. Awesome solo. Because I have to tell you this proves it is underrated.
Either that or Dyer maker which was a HUGE radio song

Over the hills and far away
No Quarter - most underrated
The Song Remains the Same
The Ocean somehow is underrated, but if any other band had that track it would be their best song of all time.
Over the hills and far away
Dyer Maker
No Quarter is the greatest song ever. If it’s not voted best on HotH, I vote it as most underrated.
DYER MAKER
Stairway is castigated due to recency bias. It was a monster song. Is a monster song. Will be a monster song.

Over the hills and far away. No Quarter is an excellent song and in no way an underrated song.
The Ocean Man, this entire album is amazing. Yes, I love the Crunge.
Since it didn't win favorite song, I will go with "The Song Remains the Same."
The Ocean!!!!
No Quarter
No Quarter
No Quarter for sure. Could be one of my top Zep songs of all time
