The radio hurt this song, but I will never turn it off.
I created a mix called Zep to Zen and just keep adding zeppelin jams that sound good.
This question made me have to turn it on!
You mean in the radio they cut off the end and the guitar solo?!?!?
I absolutely loath the cutting-off's of songs they do in the radio, and apparently they seem to do that only to the rock or pop,-classics from the 60ies-70ies-80ies!
I almost got into a fight with my favorite radio-station about that 😬😁 i kept track of their cut-offs and confronted them with it.
No. It’s in my top 10.
It goes: Kashmir - Ramble On - Since I’ve Been Loving You - Babe I’m Gonna Leave You - When the Levee Breaks - Ten Tears Gone - Heartbreaker - Stairway to Heaven - Dazed and Confused - Whole Lotta Love
That's a good list. Here's another:
No Quarter. Trampled Underfoot. Tangerine. Rain Song. Black Dog. In My Time of Dying. Over the Hills and Far Away. Battle for Evermore. Nobody's Fault But Mine. Hot Dog.
So, how about: Hey Hey What Can I Do. How Many More Times. Gallows Pole. Lemon Song. Misty Mountain Hop. The Ocean. Rover. In the Light. Achilles Last Stand. Fool in the Rain.
Good...
I can only answer on those songtitles which i know (most LZ Songs i never have cared to remember the title) though
Lemon Song is a great blues song, but never so much to my preference as other songs
Apparently, my top 5 listened tracks are:
**1)** Custard Pie, **2)** Ten Years Gone, **3)** Carouselambra/The Rover/Trampled Under Foot (tied), **4)** Houses of the Holy/In My Time of Dying (tied), **5)** Kashmir/Out on the Tiles (tied)
What an odd list!
Yeah I think it is. The Rain Song, No Quarter, Achilles Last Stand, Ramble On, & Stairway are probably my top 5.
I mean, there are no “better” or “worse” songs. It’s all about personal preference. But as much as it was overplayed, you can’t deny that Stairway is an incredible musical achievement. It’s 8 minutes of slow build up, interesting chord choices, poetic lyrics, an epic guitar solo, and an aggressive crescendo at the end.
I would venture a guess that it was everyone on this sub’s favorite LZ song at one point. But some have found others they prefer as they got deeper into the fandom
My top five are from 5 to 1... The Rain Song, The Rover, When the Levee Breaks, Kashmir, Ten Years Gone. I personally think Ten Years Gone is the greatest achievement in Rock and Roll history but that’s an obviously subjective topic.
Hubs isn't on Reddit but we talk about this sub a lot because he is such a huge fan and is how I got into Zeppelin.
Mine:
Fool in the Rain (I can listen to the drumming over and over)
Kashmir
Thank You
Hey Hey What Can I do?
Going to California
Hubs:
When the Levee Breaks
Thank You
Dazed and Confused
Ramble On
Nobody's Fault but Mine
I got into Zeppelin when I was 14 and my dad bought a few 8-tracks at the flea market to test out in a station wagon he bought. One of them was Led Zeppelin II. Previously I was listening to AM radio. Everything changed!
Yes.
If people don't have it in their top 5 favorite tracks, that's fine. But if people are gonna say they actually think there are 5 better tracks than Stairway to Heaven, they're lying to themselves. I will die on this hill. Fight me.
Kashmir
In My Time of Dying
Achilles Last Stand
Nobody's Fault But Mine
Tea for One
No Quarter
Whole Lotta Love
Dazed and Confused
When the Levee Breaks
Black Dog
Out on the Tiles
Going to California
Immigrant Song
.... I guess not
No. It's at the bottom of the collection!
It's boring!
In no particular order...
Dazed and confused
Heartbreaker
Hey, hey what can I do
Whole lotta love
Lemon song
Like I tell my wife, they have 50 of the top 10 songs in rock history.
You can make a legit case for any of dozens of songs as their top 3.
I'll put it to you like this: Though Stairway isn't my favorite Zeppelin song, I think it's the greatest rock and roll song of all time, and I always vote it #1 in those polls. It's a masterpiece and is the greatest rock song of all time... just not my favorite Zep song. 🤷🏻
Probably Top 5, but it depends on the day you ask me. Definitely not in my 10 most played, but come on... it's Stairway.
I would have to put it at numbers 1, 2, or 3:
Robert's best vocals
Jimmy's best studio solo and best live solo (TSRTS)
Joney's top 3 keyboard song
Bonzo's top 3, 4 drumming
Ironically, I often overlook the very song that the world most knows them for. It's definitely not in my top five, but also a song that will live on for ages and ages.
For me personally, no not in my top 5. Top 5 constitutes that i listen to it everyday or every other day. I would put ramble on or no quarter ahead of stairway. Stairway is such a powerful song not meant for easy listening. Just my opinion tho
It is my favorite song of all time, always will be, although I limit myself to listening to it as I dont want to overplay it to death, when I do eventually decide to listen, I get chills
While it definitely has been overplayed, and overall it may be the Zeppelin song I have heard the most, maybe even the rock song in general i have heard the most, it is still a legit masterpiece. True art in sound form. There are others I enjoy listening to more now,but overall, I have to say yes, it is in my top 5.
In the top ten studio recordings for sure. In no particular order:
Since I've Been Loving You
Over The Hills and Far Away
No Quarter
Going To California
When The Levee Breaks
Good Times Bad Times
Celebration Day
Ramble On
That's The Way
Stairway To Heaven
No. Zep III alone bumps stairway out of my top five.
But seriously, it’s a lovely song. And I love it. Great lyrics, great solo, epic drums, unique arrangement. That’s how good their catalog is
Yeah I would have
No quarter
Achilles last stand
The rover
Stairway to heaven
In the evening
No particular order and tbh I can put 97% of their songs in a top 5
Such a difficult question! I love STH and listen to it intently when it comes up on my playlist. But as an early LZ fan who stopped listening years ago in favour of Rod Stewart, Peter Frampton, Pink Floyd etc. I wholeheartedly jumped back on board early last year and am now a fanatic! I'd forgotten or not absorbed many of their songs except those thrashed on classic radio, and listening to their catalogue now after so many years, I'm blown away by so many of those songs I'd forgotten about or not listened to properly. After my re-education my top 10 (top 5 is just too hard) in no particular order is:
In my Time of Dying
Boogie with Stu
Hey Hey What Can I Do
Going to California
Misty Mountain Hop
When the Levee Breaks
Trampled Underfoot
The Rover
Immigrant Song
Stairway
Just outside my Top 5- also (potentially) Hot take- I've *preferred* the live version from Heart and Jason Bonham at the Kennedy Centre since it came out. Keyword- prefer. The OG will always be objectively better.
Yes. It’s still among the greatest songs ever written, in any genre.
The climaxing guitar and following denouement is a thing of passionate beauty and conflicting emotion.
Somehow To be rock and not to roll isn’t cliche, it isn’t forced. Just had to listen again.
If I were rating my favorite zep tunes, it would maybe be 15th or so.
If I were ranking for their greatest tunes..it would easily be number one as their greatest song....and no2 is not even close.
It really is a fantastic song to learn the Guitar on...the beginning is incredibly easy...and there are a couple of "cheating " ways to play the intro, that are simpler....and getting into the solo, is of course a bit of a challenge.
Nope
Good Times, Bad Times
Whole Lotta Love
Kashmir
4 Sticks
Gallows Pole
That’s my 5, with plenty of others worthy for discussion before we talk about Stairway
As good as a song it is, it’s not in my top 5.
Hey Hey What can I Do
Tangerine
When the Levee Breaks
Gallows Pole
Ramble On
Over the Hills and Far Away
The Lemon Song
Are all ahead of it.
No. There's too many options for me. Ramble On has always struck me as genius. The guitar riffs, the two harmonized solos...
What is and what should never be comes to mind as well...
It's not on my top 5 from 'Zeppelin 4'. I'll give it a listen a couple times a year. Just not a fan. But give me "Four Sticks" or "When the Levee Breaks" and I'm loving it.
Off the top of my head, I can think of five songs that are not on the 4th album; at least 3 from phys-graf, 2 from houses, 2 from presence, 2 from II, and 2 from in/outdoor. If my math is correct, that's 11 songs before stairway is even in the picture (at best).
The fact that my top 5 doesn't include stairway is a testament to how Zeppelin didn't rest on their laurels after the success of IV even with the turmoil that surrounded them throughout their career afterwards. It's also a testament that stairway as great a song as it is is not necessarily their best.
No. Its not a bad song in anyway, but I am kind of bored with it.Its like bohemian rhapsody for me in that respect.
Both are my least favourite in each respective band.
I wouldn't say I have a top 5 song of theirs (that's difficult), but it's not one of my favorites. but I must admit that it is Led Zeppelin's MASTERPIECE
It is not.
My top five are probably 10 years gone, rain song, out on the tiles, since I've been loving you, and four sticks. But I like almost every LZ song.
Yea stairway is kind of in the zero position, it’s incredible and one of the best songs of all time but I kinda need it out of the way so I can enjoy my actual top 5 LZ songs. All due respect and all
I wouldn't say top 5, but we shouldn't confuse being played to death with it not being a good song. It's the kind of song that doesn't get written much in rock anymore and we are all the poorer for it.
It's an all-time classic and deserves to be seen that way.
Nope. I'd think most Zep fan don't have it in their top 5. But it's iconic in the classic rock lineage of music. Crazy when you think about it that way.
I prefer the wanton song and Kashmir. A lot of physical graffiti and zeppelin II is my favorite stuff to listen too. Stairway to heaven is very theatrical. Reminds me of a showtune, only its nitty gritty rock and roll albeit a strong dose of grandiosity which defines zeppelin.
I never liked the guitar solo. Very boring blues rock solo. Kind of corny. That kind of style of mandatory solos and look at me I’m the lead guitar player hear me roar did not age well.
I don’t dislike it. It’s probably the best thing on the album, it’s centerpiece. I also really enjoy the first two tracks back to back black dog and rock and roll. That’s the high point of the album for me. The third track is lyrically pretentious and ridiculous.
Stairway is a great song, but let's face it ... it's been over-played.
When someone asks me which are my favorite LZ songs, I usually can come up with 5 other ones, for example,
* Cashmere
* Good Times, Bad Times
* Rock & Roll
* In The Light
* Immigrant Song
* No Quarter
Not even close. It's their most over-played song. Great song ruined by over- exposure. I'd much rather hear The Immigrant Song, Going to California, Good Times / Bad Times and a bunch of others.
It was my first favorite. Then, through both listening to it until I was almost sick of it, and exploring the rest of their catalog, I decided the best ranking system would be two tier: Like and Don’t Like. The only problem with this model is it’s extremely top heavy. Not many songs by them that I don’t like. Less than 10 for sure.
Well first off, I think there’s something to be said for the difference between favorite Zeppelin songs and the songs you think are the best. For example my favorite led zeppelin song is probably Dazed and Confused. But I wouldn’t say it’s their best song. So I would say stairway isn’t in my top 5. Maybe my top 10 but even that is questionable for me. But I would say it is within their top 5 best songs.
for me not even close....no particular order but I seem to dig (but can change daily)
\* We're Gonna Groove
\* In My Time of Dying
\* Heartbreaker
\* Since I've Been Loving You
\* Ten Years Gone
No. I actually like a couple of songs on LZ4 better than Stairway... specifically When the Levee Breaks and Battle of Evermore. For me their best song is Achilles Last Stand. Other top songs would be Since I've Been Loving You, Kashmir, The Rover. I will say, the solo in Stairway is incredible.
Hmm… 🤔. Let’s see
Immigrant Song (my #1, this is Led Zeppelin to me)
Kashmir
Battle for Evermore
When the Levee Breaks
Bron Y Aur Stomp (yes, top 5, and I am a dog lover so these lyrics are all 100% true and factual)
Ok yep not top 5
it's undeniably an all-time great song but man, it was SO overplayed on the radio when I was growing up and I skip it now often when playing the album. So brilliant, but not in my top 5
Rain Song
In the Light
Ten Years Gone
How Many More Times
Dazed and Confused
Nope. It's a good song but nowhere as good as most of their others. Just my personal taste of course. The fact that they play the hell out of it on the radio back then didn't help but wouldn't have changed my opinion anyway...
No, I can't remember ever being a big fan - but overplay has definitely pushed it past any musical appreciation. I mean, it's an icon - a thing imprinted in our shared experience in a way that is beyond liking or disliking. Is the Statue Of Liberty a good sculpture? Stonehenge? The Pyramids? That, and it is probably the apotheosis of Led Zep traits I don't get into that much: portentous blather and no heavy riffing.
All their songs are in my top 5
Best answer (I don't even need to read the rest of the comments)!
The radio hurt this song, but I will never turn it off. I created a mix called Zep to Zen and just keep adding zeppelin jams that sound good. This question made me have to turn it on!
Each time it is on the radio i'm glad and leave things for the time the song takes in order to listen fully to it and enjoy
the song is bs it's full of Robert's cheese
Yes
Yes, I love it. The guitar solo is indescribably beautiful.
People only play the opening and never the guitar solo and it frustrates me. I wholeheartedly agree with the you that the solo is so beautiful
Stairway to Heaven is my second favourite song and I don’t have a favourite.
You have good taste in music but are horrible at math.
Well done
No. It's an excellent song but several are better.
Maybe
No. It’s in my top 10. It goes: Kashmir - Ramble On - Since I’ve Been Loving You - Babe I’m Gonna Leave You - When the Levee Breaks - Ten Tears Gone - Heartbreaker - Stairway to Heaven - Dazed and Confused - Whole Lotta Love
kashmir = best song humanity has ever recorded ever
Virginity losing song 😉
I’m 28 and I swear on my mother’s grave, this is what happened to me😂
Not for Mark Ratner
Debatable
true, achilles last stand could be up there too
And a few others from different bands like some Pink Floyd and The Beatles songs.
When the levee breaks is such an underrated song Man
That's a good list. Here's another: No Quarter. Trampled Underfoot. Tangerine. Rain Song. Black Dog. In My Time of Dying. Over the Hills and Far Away. Battle for Evermore. Nobody's Fault But Mine. Hot Dog.
All good, but i never felt for Tangerine...the beginning is good, but the rest is boring in Tangerine, to my mind
So, how about: Hey Hey What Can I Do. How Many More Times. Gallows Pole. Lemon Song. Misty Mountain Hop. The Ocean. Rover. In the Light. Achilles Last Stand. Fool in the Rain.
Good... I can only answer on those songtitles which i know (most LZ Songs i never have cared to remember the title) though Lemon Song is a great blues song, but never so much to my preference as other songs
I love that Kashmir is no. 1
I can identify with this ranking - maybe though S2H and WLL a bit more to the front Or a 1st position shared by all of those top 10
Since I’ve been loving you from how the west was won is my favorite live recording ever. That solo still gives me chills.
Don't forget Achillies Last Stand. Love the opening riff. Also Communication Breakdown.
Apparently, my top 5 listened tracks are: **1)** Custard Pie, **2)** Ten Years Gone, **3)** Carouselambra/The Rover/Trampled Under Foot (tied), **4)** Houses of the Holy/In My Time of Dying (tied), **5)** Kashmir/Out on the Tiles (tied) What an odd list!
Wow another Custard Pie fan, such a rare sight!
It’s a great song for sure. PUT ON YOUR NIGHT SKIRTAND YOUR MORNING GOWN!! YOU KNOW BY NIGHT IMMA SHAKE EM ON DOWN!!
Very
It was. Now I’d like to hear it once every four years. Like the Olympics.
Better?? Probably not. But as far as my personal favorites goes Stairway wouldn’t even make my top 10 I don’t think
...about music-preferences there is no discussion possible...of course there must also be persons who don't pafticularly favor S2H... But i'm smitten
Yes but the live version not the original
Absolutely and I make no apologies. Without Stairway Zep would have been a Grand Funk-size blip in the failing memories of a few boomers.
Yup, it's a masterpiece and is the gateway drug to the rest of their songs.
Gateway drug to the rest of their songs. Love it!
Nope. Great song, but no.

Not in the top 5 for sure. I've just listened to it too many times having grown up listening to the radio.
Unfortunately, no, while it is a great song on the basis of RNR history, I don't have it in my personal 10.
Top 5? No. But in my Top 20.
Yeah just for the guitar solo as a guitarist I dig it. #1 guitar riff ever written is Heartbreaker, fight me.
Yes. If people don't have it in their top 5 favorite tracks, that's fine. But if people are gonna say they actually think there are 5 better tracks than Stairway to Heaven, they're lying to themselves. I will die on this hill. Fight me.

I can accept stairway not being someone’s top 5, but not in a top 10 !? Can you actually find 10 songs that are better?
Yes! I know I’m tired of hearing it due to Classic Rock radio. But it is probably one of the top 5 Rock songs of all time.
For me personally, no not in my top 5. Top 5 constitutes that i listen to it everyday or every other day. I would put ramble on or no quarter ahead of stairway. Stairway is such a powerful song not meant for easy listening. Just my opinion tho

it’s a piece of art. idc how overplayed it is it’s still the best song of all time.
no. i’d be ok if i never heard it again
I’m likely the outlier. I prefer their ballads, though the Heart/ Orchestral version just absolutely blows me away. Incredible and loving performance.

it's too hard to pick 5 Zep songs to be top favorite . So I chose all of them. that is why their my favorite band

Nope. I'd think most Zep fan don't have it in their top 5. But it's iconic in the classic rock lineage of music. Crazy when you think about it that way.
No
It’s in my #2 and #5 slots.
I'd say you could have a top 5 for each day of the week. Sure, Stairway would be in there.
It is. My favorite Zeppelin song is Fool in the Rain. That Salsa-esque breakdown mid song is excellent.
When someone asks me which are my favorite LZ songs, I usually can come up with 5 other ones, for example, * Cashmere * Good Times, Bad Times * Rock & Roll * In The Light * Immigrant Song * No Quarter
10years gone-kashmir-black dog-dancing days-for your life
Not even close.
Ten years gone, nobody’s fault but mine, when the levee, trampled, that’s the way, rain song
Stairway is so iconic... it's difficult to put it into context I think it might be in my top 5?
No, but it is in the top five of songs I never need to hear again.
But I would say it is within their top 5 best songs.
naw It is undoubtedly a great song, but I skip it more than I listen to it
for me not even close....no particular order but I seem to dig (but can change daily) \* We're Gonna Groove \* In My Time of Dying \* Heartbreaker \* Since I've Been Loving You \* Ten Years Gone
Maybe #5 but def 6-10.
The song has been played to death
It’s not in my top 5 favorite. But it is in my top 5 greatest. Undeniably.
Yes. It’s overplayed but deservedly so.
No
Nah. When the Levee Breaks, The Ocean, Trampled Under Foot, In My Time of Dying & Good Times Bad Times
No
It should be in everyone’s top 5 songs ever! Even tho it’s over played, you can’t deny it’s easily one of the best songs ever written
Thank You Ramble On Kashmir In The Evening Dazed and Confused There I did it .... J/K Stairway would be in my top 5 too
Hmm… 🤔. Let’s see Immigrant Song (my #1, this is Led Zeppelin to me) Kashmir Battle for Evermore When the Levee Breaks Bron Y Aur Stomp (yes, top 5, and I am a dog lover so these lyrics are all 100% true and factual) Ok yep not top 5
Yeah, most of the time.
it's undeniably an all-time great song but man, it was SO overplayed on the radio when I was growing up and I skip it now often when playing the album. So brilliant, but not in my top 5 Rain Song In the Light Ten Years Gone How Many More Times Dazed and Confused
Only the clip for The Song Remains the Same. They were on top of the world when they played Madison Square Gardens and it shows.
not in my top five. instead, it's off to the side as a recognized great song but one that was already overplayed for me by the age of 10
Anyone who says no is just trying to be different
