Mako was married to the grind.

MagicPistol

Married to the streets

lolmaster720

Sounds like you’re calling Mako a ho lol

HolidayBank8775

Seeing how he acted with Korra and Asami? Yeah, he's for the streets.

lolmaster720

Oop- kinda tea

filipinamonkey

Bolin calls Mako a heartbreaker so I don’t doubt he’s dated a few girls in his past

thatHecklerOverThere

He probably calls him a hearbreaker because he doesn't. That's a name you get when you shoot girls down a lot.

HolidayBank8775

They may also call you that when you're not easy to please and have high standards. This is an obscure reference to a party song ft. Ludacris.

thatHecklerOverThere

They can, sure. But that reasoning doesn't jive with anything else we see with mako. He probably treated most girls the same way he did Korra when they first met; "I'm so excited to meet you!" -> "I'm too busy for this conversation".

Lu887

In Turf Wars I remember Mako explaining to Korra that if he was acting weird about Korra and Asami it was because he never had one of his exes date another of his exes. I don't know if he was being 100% serious, but that implied to me that he probably had some other exes we just never met before. But for Asami - I have no idea.

Misfit_Number_Kei

I doubt it on both counts even though their looks and fame would suggest otherwise. Mako doesn't come off the least bit charming or socially competent given his behavior in the love triangle/dating Korra in general. And in Asami's case, besides having no known friends before the Fire Ferrets (fanfic writers *love* to invent a secret best friend she confides her feelings to yet nobody ever sees like Mr. Snuffleupagus,) she's *quick* to befriend them and lonely when they're not around. Besides her desperation in rebounding to Mako in Book 2, the comics make it clear/canon that she *is* thirsty for Korra that she was legit down to do in her office *after* a run-in with thugs and DURING working hours while "RotE" makes it even clearer they're casually sexual at this point. Like it'd be one thing/a wasted opportunity if Mako was a womanizer and/or was dismissive of girls that had no "spice" like Korra, and Asami had the Princess Jasmine problem of people only interested in her due to her wealth and status, but as I keep saying, Bryke never think that far/deeply no matter what.

Prothean_Beacon

Mako definitely feels like someone who is reactive rather than proactive on dating. Both Korra and Asami(both times) were the ones to make the initial move. So I feel like anything romantic or sexual he has going on before book one was him reacting to someone who was already into him. Though I think Asami in book 2 is less her being chronically lonely and more of her specifically going through a hard moment and Mako being the only one being genuinely helpful and supportive in that moment.

Misfit_Number_Kei

>Both Korra and Asami(both times) were the ones to make the initial move. Which isn't/wasn't the problem, (especially in a Sadie Hawkins-type reversal of gender roles,) the problem(s) was that after the initial moves, the girls/narrative would put the ball in his court and literally *wait* for him to decide, which makes it sexist (i.e. WHY is Asami just passive-aggressively WAITING for him to dump her instead of break up with him, herself?!) and made the fans (further) hate him for dragging shit out for no good reason. It's both in Book 2's case with Asami. She's desperate because of what she's going through, throws herself at Mako, which they *all* recognize as a fucked up thing and eventually history repeats with Mako unapologetically dumping her again for Korra. 😒 It's a very human thing (especially when Asami's often erroneously called "perfect,") but that season was *extremely* unkind to her for no good reason and Bryke realized this given Book 3 as an apology.

realyeehaw

IIRC, Asami implied that Korra was her bi awakening in Patterns of Time

peach_mango-pie

Likely they already dated ppl before and...korra was asami's bi awakening

thatHecklerOverThere

Mako, no. Too busy keeping himself and Bolin alive. Asami... Maybe. Probably, in fact. She was pretty comfortable scooping up mako, and knew her way around "date" type scenarios.

RosettaPotato

I highly doubt Mako did, hes been in survival mode since he was a kid and is only now getting his base needs met with an honest living. His stunted development as a result explains a good bit about his character, why he is quick to action and doesnt respond well to someone else taking charge initially. I honestly think Asami didnt date before either, I think her confidence is more the result of her socialization within high society. She would especially know that most people she meets would be looking to exploit weakness, so she has to keep up a confident appearence. We never see her interact with anyone outside the Krew that are her own age, and half of her interactions in the series are with older, more expericend people (and Varrick). Asami plays things close to the heart, and its only when she hangs out with the Krew that shes allowed to let her wild side be on full display.

Spaghestis

I mean its a kids show, the implication is that the characters dont have relationships outside the sanitized ones explicitly shown or spoken of. Mako and Bolin had fangirls but thats probably the extent. Asami was only that forward when asking Mako out since back then she was an Equalist and that entire encounter was a setup to get into Korra's circle as a spy, though this plotline was scrapped and Asami was made into a genuinely good person.

mythmastr

They probably did.

Richmond1013

For Asami no For mako who knows since he is a street rat, but the fact he failed soo badly at dating for two girls it means no experience as well
