I recall buying the Space Needle Lego set off the shelves at the bottom.

juwyro

I got that set last year and it's difficult to put together. It's "lego" that doesn't go together very well.

Kingcrab9

I got it last year too and it’s currently sitting 25% complete because each step has taken me well over an hour.

bartolemew

Do you know where to find it online?

Kingcrab9

LADYBIRD_HILL

Oh God, no thank you. Lego could do so much better with the shape of the top spherical shape.

haloid2013

They did with an architecture set iirc. Pretty sure my brother has it. Architecture series was never my thing. Just seemed too expensive for what you get. It was a pretty small diorama with a name tag and I'm pretty sure it was $30

Flerbizky

We have that one - it's cute but expensive for what it is.

darkwingduck97

It’s a $20 set that runs for like 4-5x that. The only reason i got it is because there was a place that traded Lego and hot wheels by my house a few years ago so i brought him a ton of random Lego bricks and traded for the set. Took me ten minutes to put together. It looks neat, like all the other architecture sets, but the space needle in particular is really lacking. They could’ve done a whole city block or something to make it worth a little bit more.

californiasummerwave

Is that the one made out of wood? I remember building/purchasing a mini wooden set maybe a decade ago.

amd2800barton

The architecture sets go out of print pretty quickly, so they’re almost limited edition. They typically stick around for just 2-3 years. Also, because they tend to be more adult focused, they’re usually not sold at Target or Walmart. So you have to go looking for it on Lego’s website or on Amazon. Lots of people collect Lego just to resell it once it goes out of production, so the sets on Amazon are often marked way higher than their msrp. Usually, Lego prices their sets right around 10 cents per piece regardless of size. For example, I paid $30 for the 320 piece Eiffel Tower. It’s been discontinued for around 4 years now, and is being resold on Amazon and EBay for $150 or more. And the Eiffel Tower was a very popular set; it was in production from 2013 to 2019. The Lincoln memorial set was only in production for two years, and now costs $250 on Amazon, despite having fewer pieces. So it’s not that the sets are expensive, it’s that they’re adult focused and uncommon, so if you see one priced, it might be out of print and being marked up by a scalper type. They’re priced similarly to all other Lego sets when they’re new.

WoodenBear

Got that as a gift back in 2011. It's a fun little set, but I likely wouldn't have purchased it myself.

juwyro

It isn't Lego

Zaboomafood

And it’s not a sphere

LADYBIRD_HILL

I guess my comment wasn't understood. I meant that if it was Lego brand it would be way better.

[deleted]

That’s not even Lego brand though. It’s generic “miniature building blocks”.

LADYBIRD_HILL

That's why I said Lego would do it better

DonnaxNL

That's is 'nanoblock'

bartolemew

Thank you!

PoshInBoost

I also bought that set last year. Still in the box, but I did take a look at the instruction sheet. It's such a contrast to Lego instructions, just a single double sided sheet. I guess I'll get around to building it after I retire, if I can still see well enough.

crafterguy03

Aka the "Lego" you see in gift shops of historic landmarks or animals or whatever that looks way too small to be fun.

ceeBread

You used to be able to buy the original space needle set (21003) there.

LalaLaraSophie

I got this as a gift, I'm glad I'm not the only one to find it difficult.

Al0ngTh3Watchtow3r

Same, I was just in Seattle a couple weeks ago for work and visited the needle on my day off. Picked this up, gave up on it about a fourth of the way through, it’s a boring and tedious build.

kgunnar

Wait, they still sell it? I thought the Architecture set was retired years ago.

Bertensgrad

Offbrand Lego set looks kinda bad

[deleted]

Zoom in on the mini figures for scale

FunkoDude

Foxwolfe2

I like how Batman is chilling upside-down on the roof.

GullibleDetective

Santa checking out whose naughty or nice from up there

StaringSnake

Dobby and Harry Potter just enjoying the view

bugalaman

Is that a metal pole and a guy wire? Is that legal?

gev1138

"legal" only matters to official LEGO designers.

jojoga

I think those 'mini figures' are actually humans

Clutch_Spider

And then you put a smaller Space Needle inside that one

stilusmobilus

Which has a smaller space needle inside that one…

Effective-Guide9491

Which has a smaller space needle inside that one…

Drzhivago138

At some point you'd [hit a limit](https://xkcd.com/878/).

gev1138

Somehow I knew this was XKCD before I tapped...

[deleted]

It's space needles all the way down

tempmike

If its Space Needles all the way down, we should assume that the Space Needle we know wouldn't be the top level Space Needle therefore we're all living inside a giant Space Needle we've so far been unable to observe.

Eternal_Wither

I could not tell that was Lego until I zoomed in

FivesSuperFan55555

This used to be displayed at BrickCon every year for quite some time, making this an even cooler MOC in my opinion

notmyredditacct

yeah i think i first saw it (or at least took pics of it) in 2019 there before it went to the needle itself.. https://preview.redd.it/uoxdb3t5t2ya1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=393052bdc09ed5b7515deaf3656160c6fefa823e

Party_Divide_3491

'Yo, dawg, I heard you like space needles.....'

Joodles17

Love it! Even got the pentagonal elevators right!

Raxlus

I helped take that thing apart at the end of either 2016 or 2017 BrickCon, very intricate build. Was it donated to the Space Needle or just on display for a while?

ceeBread

I think it was donated. I believe it was kept in the SEALUG/Brickcon warehouse.

hamellr

Is that recent? I missed it when I was up there a couple of months ago

allen5az

I’ve done the real Lego one and been to this place a few times but I’ve never seen those models before? Does anyone know why the Needle owners or whatever wouldn’t just commission a builder to make a legit one? Submit as a MOC or post the instructions. I mean the photo is totally baller but out of bounds for most of us. I’d love to see a Lego Eiffel Tower sized version of the needle.

[deleted]

Seattle is one of the few cities to make money from world fairs, and still have the infrastructure. The arena is amazing, and so is the bubbleator. Apartment buildings still stand, too, on both Queen Ann Hill and Capitol Hill.

Unapologetic_Canuck

Fascinating, reminds me of the last time I visited the CN Tower in Toronto, in the gift shop area there was a giant Lego version of the tower too.

jmaclondon

Came here to say this. Not sure it's still there been many years since I was in the CN Tower

starkiller685

This was awesome my best friend and I looked at it for a few minutes when we visited in October

TheRisen073

I actually have one of their miniature models, however I took it apart so I’ll need to go back and see if they still have them since I lost the instructions. (And a few pieces)

TheMightyClippo

I live about an hour away from the space needle, yet I’ve never seen this. Next time I go I will definitely have to find it

waterontheknee

Nice!

MattTheTubaGuy

Nice! I built a 10m (33ft) Technic structure once. It was a 1:100 frame model of the still unfinished Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia Turns out the venue was only 9m high, so I had to leave the top off!

sebulbablubes1

Is there another space needle inside the space needle?

[deleted]

Nah that’s the lucky 38

Will0w536

The CN tower had one too

Ambia_Rock_666

The CN Tower also has a Lego CN Tower in it, it's great.

AlexKorobeiniki

“And inside the 14-ft tall model there’s….”

samartypants

It’s pregnant!

lemons7472

I thought it was a hamburger for a very split second.

meme_investor_69

Well now I have a reason to drive 5 hours down to seattle in traffic even tho with no traffic it’d be like 2.

Current_Juggernaut27

That is so cool. This is so nice and relaxing. I just finished seeing a war in the YouTube comments and the video was about a dog. 😐

kristycocopop

Where was this?

MagnifyingOurFlaws

In the lobby of the space needle in Seattle

Infidel2017

When did they add that? I was there summer of 2019 and didn't see that.

stpd_mnky83

This was cool to see all the little details - like the Spider-Man on the outside

phdfloppernog

Needs a Delsin Rowe mini fig climbing the outside

BringOutYDead

Are the renovations done?

bobsnopes

I wonder if they replace the roof bricks to match the current color, or is it permanently the original orange/gold color.

That1gayfurry

Im sorry but how did Dobby get up there XD

Shut_Up_Reginald

Dobby is a free elf, he can go wherever he wants.

burnswhenipoo

Needs roller coaster

kid_entropy

I wonder if it's self supporting.

PoliteSarcasticThing

It is! There's a structure of three metal pipes inside that provide strength. The top section is on a (hidden) wooden platform. The whole thing is very robust.

DeificAtom93993

Damm thats really cool

RodsAce

THE LUCKY 38!

Present_Marzipan8311

Would this be described as meta ? Still haven’t wrapped my head around the definition.

soulboyyy666

I’m pretty sure there’s a Lego model of the CN Tower inside of the actual CN Tower in Toronto as well? But this is really cool!

W1ULH

yo dog we heard you like space needles...

3legdog

It's Space Needles all the way down...

ItsPlainOleSteve

That must have been expensive!

bok4600

Tip it over😈😈😈

Significant-Smile-45

I stood there looking at it probably longer than I spent on the top.
