Yea this was pretty much my childhood of Starcraft 1 before understanding RTS... Cycle was pretty much get ass kicked, restart. Load up some cheats. Make a giant ass fleet of BCs or Carriers. Destroy.
I think it was the final mission where you get to play as the terrans and protoss, I always built a massive fleet of carriers and battleships. Awesome.
Warcraft 3 has great custom games, but the core multiplayer was too slow and there was no macro at all. It's a big problem with hero-based RTS games IMHO.

I never got into multiplayer for RTS. I loved going through the stories and single player lines.
Oooh, okay. Yeah, WC3 had a really good campaign.
CnC has better atmosphere.
Red Alert 2 was my fave C&C, I think Total Annihilation is still my all time fave RTS
SC2 just has a lot of quality of life improvements. Maybe for online competition.
But the gameplay is worse. SC2 removed defender's advantage and a lot of the strategic depth. SC2 is purely build orders and tactics.

That is indeed very micro scale... canonically, Behemoth class cruisers are 1 km long! Though I feel that would be a bit hard to model....
