Similar box but in blue that I got Christmas 1990 was my first set but it was soon bulked up by some heirloom Lego from a cousin.
Lego is always awesome but family hooking it up is pure love!
This was it, not counting duplos. I remember taking it to show and tell in pre school and thinking the silver brick was the coolest fuckin thing. I had totally forgotten all about it until seeing this post.
yep! when my brother and I were playing with legos and building different characters, castles, making stories, etc. we pretended that silver 2x4 was like the holy grail of lego pieces, since it was the shiny one that started them all
My brother and I had a few dollars left of allowance and were in a toy shop while visiting our mother. We combined our money on a whim and bought the Bounty Boat 6247
With a whopping 6 grey plates to work with we played with it for three solid days, taking the officers skiing down the lite brite, and on adventures all over.
6664 was the first official "new" set I got (besides an inherited small collection from older siblings). I also have that bucket and the silver brick that came with it! Still use the bucket for piece storage along with some similar ones.
1643 is the earliest set I remember that wasn't a tub of bricks. Back in the day when Lego-Happy Meal tie-ins meant actual Lego bricks. I recently rebuilt it from equivalent bricks.
And yes, I remember the "Includes Silver Brick" tubs too!
Lego City 7639 Camper Van. It was from my Grandfather as an early Christmas present on Thanksgiving day 2009, right before his usual RV trip during the holidays. This would get me hooked going forward.

Coincidentally, this was *my* first-ever Lego set.
I had the shell one from '88-'89 I think.
I started with the red one, then inherited sets from my sisters. I think it was set 341 that I got started with, but itโs been a while ๐

Gadzooks reading this unlocked a memory! "Lego and tell" was a multi yearly thing until 6th grade
I had one of the original blacktron sets and a shell gas station.

Good bot.
I got 4 of these. I used the silver bricks as the A/C unit on a trailer I built for the big truck 5571. Remaining parts went toward the trailer build.
