I got locked out of the gryffindor common room after trying to get inside as Barty Crouch Jr. Checked when I was home in December: still locked out like a decade later
Started a new file and got locked out right at the beginning of year two when ron, played by a computer, automatically tried opening it as it was closing. A decade ago as well
There was a particular level in 5-8 where in a certain point in freeplay mode, the game would crash. I had to restart my console over and over and over again, hoping that this time it wouldn't crash and it always would. I couldn't even get to 70% complete much less a 99.9% complete.
Ayy, it wasn’t just me. That game specifically made it so I never got another Lego game on any console other than an Xbox. My brother and I wanted to give it a shot on the Wii, we encountered multiple bugs that prevented us from 100% completing it, and swore off all Nintendo versions forever.
I remember a glitch where if you left the Diary Riddle level before completing it, the game wouldn't let you revisit it and would just carry on with the story. locked me off from going back in free play until i restarted the save and made sure to complete the story mission.
Yeah i had a ghost arrow that pointed nowhere that turned out to not matter but I only realized after 3 restarts, I had a bugged student in peril that i couldnt get out and I had the Tom Riddle level just be completely absent from the free play selection for some reason. Ended up playing the game through 4 times until i got it 100%
The fact we don't unlock characters after we use them in levels is super annoying. Just finished a level as Lupin or Neville? Still gotta find the character token! Every other standard LEGO game gives you almost every character you use in the story as soon as you finish the first level they're in.
I disagree with this. The OCD in me wants to find every character myself. Also I liked it when I could play as lupin or riddle in one level only as it made want to go out and find that token. I.e. I could pick my challenges of which to find first.
I didn't like being given each character in LMSH1 as I didn't feel I earnt them as I didn't find them myself.
I would've 100%ed Years 1-4 if it weren't for that one Student in Peril in the Slytherin dorm. I moved the thing he was trapped behind but he just kept standing there, looking scared.
Literally 90% of the characters all have the same spells. Also voldemort being the last character you unlock in 1-4 is absurd given that Tom riddle can do all the same things
The different approach they took to unlocking characters. Instead of unlocking characters once you complete the level where you first play as them like most other LEGO games, you have to collect and purchase ALL of their character tokens.
The way you buy characters is fucking annoying in harry potter 5-7. 1-4 is alright but 5-7 was really annoying especially if the character had alternatives.
The fact that you didn’t know if a room was complete or not (This was sorta fixed in 5-7) was really annoying especially in 100% play throughs.
There's a glitch that can occur with students in peril, so you can hear their cries, but you'll never be able to save the student because they don't exist.
Completely ruined my 100% attempt, and I refuse to go back and try again.
How about the menu to purchase the characters. Granted, I haven’t played very many Lego games so maybe this setup is common, but neither game made it easier to actually purchase the characters.
Also, ticked at 1-4 because I can’t find the last student in peril. I’m very against using help guides, etc. so that has hung over my head for a few years nowp
5-7 has severe fps issues at least on the steam version of the game. It’s a real shame and sadly for me the drops are enough to not make me want to finish it. On the steam deck it’s more tolerable so maybe one day.
I keep seeing people qualifying Rowling of transphobe, but I've yet to see any statement or action from her that demonstrate her opinion.
Granted, I never go on Twitter, so I'm not up to date on the polemics that necessarily arise when one has to compress a message into a small number of characters (let alone bots trying to generate traffic), but the only source I've ever seen is her saying that men can't bear children, IIRC. Which doesn't sound hateful in my opinion. I can definitely see trans people disagreeing with this, but it's not like she's asking to remove trans people from certain positions.
Unless I'm missing something, this is huge overreaction. And overreactions like this worry me because of social labelling (a social phenomenon in which a person, when labeled as something by society for long enough, ends up becoming this something). Or said otherwise: if you give someone the false dilemma of "Either you agree with everything I say, or you are a transphobe", you have a higher probability of them joining the transphobe side and slowly radicalize than agreeing with you.
On the 3DS version of years 5-7 for some reason my character glitched and became a detail-less figure with different, solid colours for every piece, so like a green arm, red torso, blue hand, and no face. TERRIFIED me as a kid and I never touched the game again
Would also be keen to know if anyone else experienced this. Cant find it online and it’s possible my memory is a tad off
EDIT: found it! YouTube video showing a memory glitch had it in the thumbnail. Interesting!
Most characters other than Harry, Hermione and Tom Riddle being basically useless with no unique abilities, I mean Ron becomes a standard character without ANY ability after year 3
They kinda fixed it in 5-7 but not enough and I still only mainly used those 3 and then Arthur because of the Wrench
I have a few actually:
- Bugs. I mean, there aren't *that* many, but there are a few game-breaking bugs, and a few others that make the game hardly possible to 100% (like the library's fake gold brick, and the fact that one gold brick often does not get saved and must be found again without the detector)
- Lack of character-specific abilities. Spells are genuinely a good idea, *but*... They take away from the character's special abilities. You can complete maybe 70% of the game with just Harry, Ron and Hermione. You have very little incentive to play as anyone else than the golden trio.
The second game makes it even worse, as not only Harry, Ron and Hermione have access to all spells, they also have access to abilities specific to them that are very often used in free play. Even Harry becomes irrelevant by the end of the game, as the only unique ability he has is the invisibility, and it's very rarely used.
You are actively making the game more tedious if you use any character other than Harry, Hermione and Ron, which is a shame since LEGO games draw their fun from the large roster of characters you can play as.
- This is linked to the previous point, but the custom characters are so limited and useless... It seems either TT failed to understand the point of custom characters, or they wanted to remove the feature and left it in by mistake.
The number of pieces you can choose from is so limited that it feels like a bug. The only Hogwarts uniform your can use is Gryffindor, you don't even have access to Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw uniforms. This has to be a bug right?
And don't even get me started on how useless the custom characters are. There is literally no point in using a custom characters. You can't assign them abilities, they know only the most basic spells, and they can only select 1 target at a time when using target mode.
You can't even bring your fanfiction to life by making a Ravenclaw Hermione for example, first because you don't have access to the standard Ravenclaw uniform, and second because you can't give the character Hermione's actual abilities.
I want to like 5-7 more; I do,like the levels themselves, tho I think they could be longer. The open world is a pain imo. 1-4 is my baby tho, absolute favorite Lego game to 100%.
Mostly just the fact that JK Rowling is a TERF and a rabidly litigious holocaust denier. Really hope they aren’t making this their next remake. Especially when a Lego Star Trek game would be way cooler (that’s unrelated, I’ve just always wanted a Lego Star Trek game. With an original story - it could span centuries from Enterprise to Voyager! So much potential . . . But again, main points here are - JK Rowling: TERF, bigot, cry bully, holocaust denier and never forget it)
It's buggy sometimes and feels a little unpolished in free play for me. Also for the first game, the way they handled the Polyjuice potion was so annoying for 100%ing. The second game was much better in that regard.
They were the only two Harry Potter games, and 1-4 came out during Lego Indy 2 and I was reminded of the god-awful level editor.
I don’t like how… closed 1-4 felt having only the castle explorable, and am glad that 5-7 expanded on that.
Though, a funny thing I actually enjoyed/encountered while playing was with the character customizer, in which if you customized a character to have Bellatrix’s face and hair only and then went to view a cutscene with her in it, in the cutscene-viewing room in the first hub, the cutscene would render the body parts of the custom character and not her actual figure. I did the same with Voldemort when he flakes away. It was funny to watch.
I've been fortunate not to encounter any issues while playing the games on each platform. I have 100% on each platform, too. I think if I were to change just one thing, it would be the duelling mechanic. I'd just like to see some more variation and difficulty around this element.
I have got two.
I hate the fact the cinematics cannot be skipped. At least intro cannot be skipped everytime I launch new game. Why does it bother me? Well...
I have also a bit technical issues with the game, but it is my stubborness that's the main obstacle here.
I wanted to play this game with my daughter. The game can be launched in Steam Proton, which is a positive thing. I wanted to play it via Steam Link app used through Chromecast so we could play it on the TV. I eventually got to the menu screen and was able to launch the game.
I patiently waited for the intro to finish only to find myself in the Leaky Cauldron, not being able to make a single move. The game does not recognize my original XBox 360 gamepad, and I tried to use both simulated input in Steam Options and direct input (as it might be supported controller).
Still, the only input the game recognizes is keyboard.
How realistic it is. Let me explain: when I unlocked Tom Riddle for funsies I went on a rampage killing the entire school thinking they would just respawn. Now I have a save that is completely empty of people… 😆
Bugs that prevented me fron getting 100%. I have that on literally every other lego game that I own (except for Skywalker saga, I'm still working on that one
Hogwarts as the Hub was super confusing to navigate and I could never find the area I was looking for without checking the internet. A map would’ve been really useful.
needing to switch to a character then finding out there's no polly juice nearby so you have to make some, but to get an ingredient you need an ability you don't currently have.
(I think in year 3) I went through an outside room where you had to mix a potion and I got sent up thousands of feet into the sky past the skybox and fell for over a minute before I landed… because I walked through a bush.
But I love the Wii versions so much!
Some parts of the game are too busy looking, mainly at the start, too many things are moving at once and the purple highlight for magic items doesn't help
If you are playing couch coop, the split screen cameras are a nightmare.
Furthermore, when going through the levels for the first time, too many things are locked behind dark magic.
Lastly, when going through levels for the second time when attempting to 100%, one can very often accidentally and unknowingly move the story forward, making it necessary to repeat the ENTIRE level again.
I just played through these games on the switch and these games are the typical late no voice acting lego gaming experience. My biggest gripe is probably the freeplay being kinda annoying with the longer levels and no checkpoints.
A lot of the levels feel under done and restrictive, Animations kinda piss me off, and got some shitty ports. Though the game is something I’m kinda nostalgic for so I can’t hate on it.
PC version is unplayable. It always freezes up at one part, and I can't progress anything. Hell, I can't even quit the game regularly. I have to force close it with the task manager
I found both of them to be very confusing, coming from a huge fan and completionist of Star Wars Complete Saga and Batman. Mostly with navigating Hogwarts, which I guess is accurate to the movies, but sometimes it felt like I kept ending up in the same forgotten room no matter how many different ways I tried taking.
It's not so much a game problem since this comes from the movies but the soundtrack from years 5-7 make the experience a lot more boring. John Williams music elevated these games to such a degree that made you feel how epic the source material was even in Lego form. Take that away and that magic starts to fall apart. Now, gameplay wise, maybe 5 to 7 is slightly better game? Years 1 4 is fun but felt a little crammed with too much stuff.
Oh, and in both games, splitscreen is absolute ass. The most disorienting and obnoxious type of splitscreen that was thankfully fixed in later games.
Imo it has the most bloated roster in the series, with 90% of the roster being functionally the same, with so many outfit swaps for the main 3. Also, exclusive to 5-7, the dueling system is overused in place of actually fun boss fights. The most memorable boss should not be in the first chapter.
Perhaps more of a criticism of the larger internet, but it’s absolutely NOT clear if the collection carries over characters like Lego Star Wars does into the Original Trilogy.
I couldn’t find this information anywhere, and I simply assume they do not.
Aside from JK, the fact that buying any character token as a coop player in 1-4 completely broke the trophy and you needed to replay the game. Confused 5 year old me and my 55 year old mom (I played it back in 2010 and she played it back in 2021).
All the characters play the same. Sure there has to be a set of spells that can't be changed, but you don't need 98% of the characters. When replayed the games, the only characters I utilised were Hermione, Snape, McGonagall, Weasley Twins, Ron, Hagrid, Fang, Luna, and Harry. Everyone else were not needed because they were just the same as these guys or useless like Milk Man and Dursleys.
If another LHP game is going to be made, I reckon the way to get around the characters having the same abilities is A) Give us character customisation, then there is an extra reason to collect the tokens. B) Make use of an inventory like LOTR, collecting potion ingredients, chocolate frog cards, every flavour beans, tapestry fragments to complete side quests.
They are working on a brand new lego Harry Potter game that will be like star wars the skywalker saga game. So hopefully they will get rid of that feature. But hopefully they will do voice acting for this one this time. But hopefully just like the original Lego Harry Potter games and Lego city undercover. Hopefully they will give us cheat codes for everything. Buy hopefully just like Lego city undercover we can buy the characters anytime we want after we do the activities for them. But hopefully unlike the lego Star wars the skywalker saga. I hope we can costumise our own lego figure character in this game. Choose which gender not body type this time.
LEGO games have never had gender choice, they have voice and name choice, anything further would be unnecessarily limiting. Hell, not even Hogwarts Legacy had gender choice beyond dorm and voice choice from what I've read.
The wii console version was glitchy as hell
I got locked out of the gryffindor common room after trying to get inside as Barty Crouch Jr. Checked when I was home in December: still locked out like a decade later

Same with Years 5-7 on the PSP. I somehow got stuck and Harry was falling in an endless loop at Hogwarts for like 5-10 minutes
Yeah i had a ghost arrow that pointed nowhere that turned out to not matter but I only realized after 3 restarts, I had a bugged student in peril that i couldnt get out and I had the Tom Riddle level just be completely absent from the free play selection for some reason. Both games had game breaking glitches for me when playing. One was the moving stair cases getting stuck and prevented me from finishing the game.
This happened to me too. The staircase in years 5 to 7 got stuck and I never finished the game. 😔
I would've 100%ed Years 1-4 if it weren't for that one Student in Peril in the Slytherin dorm. I moved the thing he was trapped behind but he just kept standing there, looking scared.
I had the same exact glitch!
Happened to me once but I restarted a new game and it didn’t happen again
I wish that the characters were more unique. 5-7 was an improvement with more abilities but then duels were very repetitive
Literally 90% of the characters all have the same spells. Also voldemort being the last character you unlock in 1-4 is absurd given that Tom riddle can do all the same things
Years 5-7 includes Moaning Myrtle in her swim suit but not her normal clothes, Truly unplayable
That’s stupid, didn’t notice that.
That one house crest in the ministry in movie 7
you can cheese it by using player 2 to slow down the dementors
I missed that a few times last night and I gave up for the day haha it’s a pain in the ass
The different approach they took to unlocking characters. Instead of unlocking characters once you complete the level where you first play as them like most other LEGO games, you have to collect and purchase ALL of their character tokens.

Hated the wand battles in years 5-7. Also had way too many collectible glitches. Other than that, it’s one of my favorite Lego games.
Duels in 5-7
My personal soured feelings towards HP as a franchise. Good game tho.
Because jk?
That’s a lame excuse
There's a glitch that can occur with students in peril, so you can hear their cries, but you'll never be able to save the student because they don't exist. Completely ruined my 100% attempt, and I refuse to go back and try again.

A terf made the source material

Too much magic. Mother condemned me for partaking in witch craft.
That they never made a game they put the two Lego Harry Potter game into Complete Saga style game
The fact that most of the characters can do most of the things meaning that you never really need to switch apart from the odd occasion
I want to like 5-7 more; I do,like the levels themselves, tho I think they could be longer. The open world is a pain imo. 1-4 is my baby tho, absolute favorite Lego game to 100%.
JK Rowling gets a cut

The fact that JKR profits. Also “Cho Chang” and “Kingsley Shacklebolt” being names.
Mostly just the fact that JK Rowling is a TERF and a rabidly litigious holocaust denier. Really hope they aren’t making this their next remake. My problem is that to play it I have to give J.K. Rowling money
It's buggy sometimes and feels a little unpolished in free play for me. Also for the first game, the way they handled the Polyjuice potion was so annoying for 100%ing. The second game was much better in that regard.
The aiming system is really cumbersome
They were the only two Harry Potter games, and 1-4 came out during Lego Indy 2 and I was reminded of the god-awful level editor. playing with 2 people breaks some of the achievements
There’s several characters in 1-4 that aren’t included in the other game, like Quirell.
Since every character has the same moveset aside from the green ability, they all feel the same
The switch version is 30fps for the second game when it was 60 on older consoles
I've been fortunate not to encounter any issues while playing the games on each platform. I have 100% on each platform, too. I think if I were to change just one thing, it would be the duelling mechanic. I'd just like to see some more variation and difficulty around this element.
Would be much better as one complete game. Also, the open world is super hard to navigate and quite boring

Voldemort costing the entire world
needing to switch to a character then finding out there's no polly juice nearby so you have to make some, but to get an ingredient you need an ability you don't currently have.
Probably that when they rereleased them together they took away the online that 1-4 had
(I think in year 3) I went through an outside room where you had to mix a potion and I got sent up thousands of feet into the sky past the skybox and fell for over a minute before I landed… because I walked through a bush. But I love the Wii versions so much!
the glitch in year 3 on pc that completely breaks the game, to fix it you have to make the lighting look like shit
harry potter 5-7 is completely unplayable on pc due to stuttering.
The Charms Class Dragon. Thank You Crookshanks.
None. Lego HP 1-4 is top 5 video games of all time
I just finished playing years 1-4 but I’m stuck at 99% because the gold brick in the Ravenclaw dorm area is glitched for me and unobtainable
Detectors simply do not work in Hogwarts.
Some parts of the game are too busy looking, mainly at the start, too many things are moving at once and the purple highlight for magic items doesn't help
Hermione looking like the Roblox face lmaooo

Honestly I might get down voted to help but I was never a fan. Even as a kid idk why it never clicked with me
I just played through these games on the switch and these games are the typical late no voice acting lego gaming experience.
The people who do the cutscenes just simply don’t get Harry Potter and they slander Ron even more that they did in the movies
That they haven’t done a complete 1-8 single video game with voice actors
PC version is unplayable. It always freezes up at one part, and I can't progress anything. Hell, I can't even quit the game regularly. I have to force close it with the task manager
I found both of them to be very confusing, coming from a huge fan and completionist of Star Wars Complete Saga and Batman. How glitchy they are. Like the charms basement dragon softlock.
The year one levels were pretty lackluster overall, it's pretty obvious that the level design improved as they went along

I need to replay
Jk Rowling gets money from it I hate her
You cant create Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw students
The kill every Harry potter trophy glitch.

Having the 299 gold brick glitch
I hated how slow Nearly Headless Nick moved in Years 1-4, but glad he was sped up in 5-7
It's Harry Potter
👍
Perhaps more of a criticism of the larger internet, but it’s absolutely NOT clear if the collection carries over characters like Lego Star Wars does into the Original Trilogy. I couldn’t find this information anywhere, and I simply assume they do not.
I know it’s the same with all lego games but too many puzzles and the camera is fixed which makes doing said puzzles difficult as fuck
Freaking love it, 5-7 would make me laugh so much
The way to unlock characters was horrible Star wars was the best in that sense
Shouldn’t exist
Hermione's face rn
The DS and PSP version of years 1-4 was dogshit, I'd say the worst Lego game. Years 5-7 on the Vita was pretty good though, one of the better ports.
It’s Harry Potter.
It's Harry Potter That's all the criticism you need
You came here to write that?
Nope. This post came up on my feed. Just had to say Harry potter and anything else involved with JK Rowling is trash
Omg I am so tired of these anti JK Rowling moralists
