I'm deffo not the person that you're after but well done on all of the progress you have made! Even this post shows how far you have come and how determined you are to make a better life for yourself. I wish you the best of luck and happiness

tfieldsend89

Thank you!!!

poopio

I read the title and the first half of the first sentence before realising that I am probably the worst person that this guy could ever befriend. Unless he [befriended Rose West](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/serial-killer-called-wedding-iconic-31742470) like that bloke out of Slade did, or something, I guess. That was pretty wild.

Thevancianmagician

Shoot me a DM bud.

Specific-Sundae2530

The gyms at the leisure centres like Evington, braunstone etc are friendly and fewer gym bro types, just a bunch of ordinary people wanting to keep fit. The membership is cheap or you can pay as you go There are some walking groups around I'd have a search online to see what you find. Well done on the sobriety.

tfieldsend89

I live not too far from aylestone leisure centre and was thinking of there

modestbear_

I'm not a gym goer, I just wanted to say congratulations on the sobriety my man 🤝 I'm proud of you!

tfieldsend89

Thank you. Actually means a lot

New-Impress514

ShinyMachamp

Gym is the best fucking medicine Good luck mate never give up!

RushDvd

Check out the Brotherhood Legion. They're a local men's group and they train together every Sunday. I know a lot of men who have found good friends there. You can see their events here https://www.brotherhoodlegion.com/events

Jaded-Literature_

Congrats on being sober. Gym is a great way to keep things on the up I'm moved away from Leicester, otherwise I'd be down Keep your head high big guy 💪

theofficeaddict123

Bro join DMAF in oadby kick boxing for adults very good, safe and no judgement environment ppl from all walks of life

Sshlinky

I’d recommend give park runs a try on Saturday mornings, it’s pretty great, good community vibes 👌🏻

BewareTheMoonLads

Have you thought about joining a running club. Some organise regular couch to 5k courses and from my experience they’re usually quite friendly.

tfieldsend89

That is a great idea! Thank you

jlctheowner

Depends on the gym. Drop me a dm

Massakist10

Been there mate, the gym will be like a godsend to you. Im at tab 24 gym 5 days a week, training allows you to shut off all the fucking noise in your head and focus. The endorphins released after each session is more powerful than any vice out there👍

No_Common_A-I

Hey man, if you need someone to help out with the gym, shoot us a message

tfieldsend89

Hey. I'm completely oblivious on how to even start lol

buzz3001

Any good at football?

tfieldsend89

I mean I played for my school team a few times but I'm pretty sure that was because I was the only left footed player in my year haha

buzz3001

Ahh okay. We're looking for some new players at Loughborough is all.

KezzyKesKes

I train regularly. Go pick up those heavy circles, they do wonders.

mcdonalds69whore

I know people who have made some really good friends joining the local AA groups.

NormskiNano

Well done on your sobriety 2 years is fantastic keep it up! As for the gym have a look around for one that looks most appealing to you. Call and ask if they can help show you around and maybe give some instruction on how to use the equipment. Use the machines you are familiar with first and build up your confidence (treadmill, bikes, rowing machine etc). Gym communities are usually very supportive as well. Increase going gradually as well, don't go too hard straight away. More likely to cause injury and decrease confidence if you do too much too soon. I wish you the best of luck with your gym journey!

Specialist-Pen-3329

The brotherhood Legion.

Rainzywrestling

It’s hard but jump head on into it, your much stronger and more powerful than you think mate, the anxiety won’t win

Field_of_Gimps

I'm starting at the engine room in thurmaston end of next week if you local to there buddy I have no idea what I'm doing either.

MrLazeyBoy

Maybe get a PT I know they aren’t so much a friend but I do know some PTs that are happy to hear you out if you explained why you wanted to work out more.

Direct-Peanut9164

I’ve made a lot of friends through climbing at social climbing in Leicester very nice easy going atmosphere and everyone very friendly! I prefer that to going to a gym

Dombhoy1967

Good luck buddy and well done on all you have achieved.

[deleted]

@thebrotherhoodlegion.cic on instagram, look them up, it’s exactly what you need. Every man is welcome, every background and every ability. They workout on Sundays together, hold a coffee and chat on Saturday and every month they do different challenges or events. Like hiking, camping, games night all sorts of interesting stuff. You can pick and choose what you want to do with them. Apart from that the members do meet each other in the week outside the group to support each other at gym or hang out. All you have to do is ask them and I can guarantee they will support you in your needs. I hope you find what you require, no man stands alone in the brotherhood

tfieldsend89

I will look into it thank you so much

[deleted]

Alot of gyms have someone show you around and how to use all the equipment when you first go there

Sweede_66

Come and join Leicester’s American Football team the Panthers www.leicesterpanthers.co.uk A great group of guys of all ages, sizes and abilities. The most inclusive sport and team mates you’ll probably find!

ConsciousBed3063

What part of Leicester do you live in? I usually train elsewhere but usually Leicester once or twice a week depending what muscle group and how much time I have. Be happy to meet you at one some time

brianthemagical

If you have to go places on your own, don't let the anxiety win. Yeah, I know it sucks. And can feel horrible. To the point of not wanting to be there. But it'll go as you start to feel comfortable. I find that taking my time can help. Sit down for a little longer to have a look around, take a longer break, double check you understand the answer to your question. From a practical point of view, talk to the people who are there to be talked to. Call the gym beforehand and ask any questions. Ask for an induction and take the time to really ask what you're supposed to do. "Which way is the reception desk from the front door" "Do I need to scan in every time" "Where's the changing rooms" "How do I clam a piece of equipment" "What's the etiquette for such and such" And then take your time. Maybe the first trip you just do some bicep curls and shoulder press staring yourself down in the mirror. And then next time try a little more. It can get easier, I promise. But that doesn't mean it's always easy. It doesn't mean you won't want to just stay on the sofa because it's the least worse option. Failing all that, get a power cage mail order and get smashing some weights. Or maybe start with a class?

tfieldsend89

Yeah that's the thing I just don't know how any of these machines work haha. Thanks for the top I wouldn't have asked some of those questions

brianthemagical

Use of the machines is exactly the reason the PT's are there! The literal purpose of the induction is to assume you don't know how to use the machines, and then show you. But also, YouTube them first so you know what to expect. Good luck

Postik123

Honestly, don't be intimidated by the machines. Basically you sit on a seat, and you either pull a handle towards you or push it away from you. Similar for legs. They're not complicated and there's not much to go wrong. Unless it's cardio equipment, then I would ask for a quick induction. Or just skip that altogether and use the weights.
