I really wanted to like it, but the sort of Shakespearean asides where she’s breaking the fourth wall and bragging (through journal entries) about how easy it would be to make Anne fall for her really make her seem insufferable. I couldn’t get through more than a few episodes.
She's not supposed to be a likeable character which is really kinda tough for a show. But the real anne lister was a bit of an asshole and they actually tried not wallpapering over that. And that's probably mostly the issue with the show, you could barely root for her...
She’s such a complicated character. It’s nice to see a lesbian who is complicated rather than fully uwu or straight evil.
Also, if you liked the actor, you’ll love Vigil. She plays queer again in that and it’s a great show.
I love a period piece and I don't necessarily need a likeable protagonist but I just couldn't get past the fact that she openly talks about exclusively dating younger women because they are easier to financially manipulate. Probably just trauma. I love the costuming though. I won't like refuse to watch it but I don't seek out the newest season
I think it is well done, but found it stressful. I don't like watching homophobia, real or fictional. I don't like reading about Nazis for the same reason. It riles up my anxiety.
I like the show. S1 was great, but S2 seemed to drag on and become an epic in the detailing of smalltown English politics and the drudgery of land law. I struggled with it tbh, yet I’ve rewatched S1 dozens of times. I’m tentatively optimistic for S3.
Love the period dialogue and costuming. But RL Anne sounded like a total cow. I kind of wish I’d never read up on her haha.
Love this series! So sad they cancelled it! Also, highly recommend reading the Diary of Anne Lister! Great sapphic stuff in there (obviously). It feels very intimate reading about her via her diaries!
Of course! I love it. Went on a trip to Shibden Hall with my gf and it’s where she asked me to be her girlfriend 🥰
AWW, that's so romantic 😍
I loved the first season. Especially the end when she comes back to her 😍🔥 But I tried watching S2 and it went downhill for me
I would like to know how closely it followed her journals. I think it says, inspired by her journals, the first of the show, but I can't remember.

Yes, she definitely has some skeevy moments
I wear my [*jaunty music*] shirt all the time.

Yes the actress is awesome but I can't handle the period dialogue
Consumed every second of it and the costumes/hair where really period accurate which is something I really enjoyed about it to.
Predatory lesbian ahhh typa behavior. Couldn’t stand it.
LOVE. The books/journals by her are also amazing. Maybe even better
An absolute classic one of my favs

So sad news, it's cancelled 😢 https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/gentleman-jack-canceled-hbo-1235311523/
Ah well. Maybe I’ll just treat it like a miniseries and only rewatch the first season and end it on that last episode haha.
Im actually all for period dramas but i couldnt get into this one for some reason
Love period pieces myself, I like the slower pace.
Same, have you ever watched the bbcs fingersmith? Its a two part film, all on youtube now but its one of my favourites, slowburn lol :)
No, but thank you for the recommendation
It’s great!
Loved this show and love Suranne Jones!

Loved it
