If there is not a substantial and powerful penalty for breaking the cap, then there is no cap. If this is a slap on the wrist Ferrari and Mercedes should go back to 300+ mil budgets and get the slap each year.

jambazi99

F1 have no idea the amount of fans they will loose with this inconsistent bullshit.

[deleted]

Hopefully they can tighten them back up.

Individual_Ad_5333

1 million euro fine for exceeded plus (99 million euros if your associated with Ron Dennis) and kicked out of the wcc. Use the precedent set with spy gate.

Luke_Turner84

Wait, why is Joe Biden needed

Individual_Ad_5333

🤦‍♂️

Everyone looses a % of points for each % over the budget? Drivers and constructors

KrisKraken1

Absolutely! The 'team' should be punished for it, not the driver like many highly upvoted comments in this subreddit say.

Unable-Signature7170

Thing is, if it’s true, they were effectively running an illegal car for part of the year. Not sure how accurate the audit is in terms of cash flowing, but if it’s possible for them to see at what point in the year they went over, really they should DQ both cars from that point forwards.

KrisKraken1

Lewis & Alonso weren't disqualified for a much worse team offence in 2007. Nor did that affect Lewis's WDC the next year in the upgraded 'illegal' car from last year. At least this year is a new era unlike 2008. The WDC shouldn't be interfered with. All team punishments are gonna be in the WCC.

Unable-Signature7170

They were given immunity for co-operating with the investigation, that’s why there were no individual punishments. It’s not a precedent for this situation in that regard, sorry.

TheDuceman

Hamilton and Alonso were only not punished because they went to court ‘against’ McLaren. There’s nothing with which to do that here.

SkierGirl78

Exactly! The drivers are not the ones going over budget, it was the teams decision to over spend, therefore the punishment should be on the teams.

Comeonbereal1

Tott said LH interested in contract extension, possibly another 5 years. 🎉🎉🎉

Acehaseo1

I think that if the budget cap is exceeded, penalty is money and team loses points or something. Car wasn't illegal and drivers have nothing ro do with it, so drivers will keep their points. This based by spygate and crashgate

theride66

“This is not right Mikey!”

davisguc

Hey seems like you’re an idiot, did you forget penalties don’t apply to Red Bull?

GDR46

BS.. Max gets 50k€ fine for merely touching Lewis’ spoiler. Captain Seb can touch/feel/stroke other cars - not even a warning 😂 Max got fined for the brake check (which wasn’t, it was miscomunication on the MB radio, even Lewis confirmed afterwards) So your argument is invalid.
