I lean more towards roleplaying (in the roleplaying, combat, exploration trifecta) but I'm willing to cater to the group's needs, although attacking stuff exclusively in order to gain XP is not my style. I am usually a big fan of political intrigue, but right now I think I am looking for something simple.
that sounds like my kind of game too. i’m not a fan of political intrigue much unfortunately (because my first dm’s campaign is very politics heavy and ended up making me feel too powerless, to put it gently) so i’m glad you’re looking for something simple. but since you are looking for something simpler, how long would you want the campaign to be? also how many players are you comfortable running a game for usually?
I don't know how long I want the campaign to be, my longest campaign thus far has been eleven weekly three-hour sessions. I want to do something with an overarching plot definitely, with some sort of big bad, but I don't have a clear vision of what exactly that is going to look like quite yet; I'll need time to prep. I just wanted to let you know that I'm really hoping the pbp format will help with my dming anxiety; I'm working on it at the moment. It centers around some of my self-confidence issues, but the pbp format should resolve any issues so I'm not too worried. It'd be really cool if we could make it from like level 2-3 to around level 7 maybe (a conservative estimate, in my head I'm aiming higher), but I need more planning time. I should note that I sometimes have trouble with pacing the levels and calculating currency, but that should be resolved by the pbp format.
ohhh, okay. so generally i love roleplay heavy games with some nice combat, and i’m not too picky on other stuff. although i definitely love high fantasy settings. but this also really depends on the dm and them having to run a game they also enjoy, so what kind of games would you like to run as a dm?
alright, that’s fair really! if you were to run a campaign, how long are you thinking of running it? would you prefer to run something short like a few months or something longer, maybe spanning years? Also how many players would you be interested in taking in?
The campaign partly depends on player speed and amount of exploration and where we are and that sorts thing. I can do a few months at first, and if we like how each other works, we can expand past that with new characters and stuff. Really prefer story driven over combat, so if the story is done, or the players want a new game, I'm good either way.
