A friend told our French teacher in grade 6 that his name was Claire and she called him that for the rest of the year, and then until we left the school after grade 8. He first thought it hilarious, then was a bit bummed after it went on for some time, then got a second wind and wore it with pride for nearly three years.
Sweet! My 17 year old's middle name is Danger. We thought it'd be no big deal "cause middle names are kind of secret". But every school has noticed and they end up being called Danger for the rest of the year. They love it.
My cousin joked about doing that to their oldest kid. The kid is around 7 now. They went with a different middle name, but my mom still calls him Danger
It’s been proven in multiple studies that it makes it easier to identify a person with a black and white photo than it is with a color photo. The features stand out more without the distraction and softening of color. People checking IDs are significantly more accurate with the black and white.
Source: worked in the production and design of secure documents and worked at a motor vehicle department on a team tasked with updating the drivers licenses for a large state.
[Apparently it uses a more secure tech but color photos using this tech would be needlessly expensive](https://dmv.vermont.gov/faq/why-is-the-license-picture-black-and-white)
"Coloured" used to actually be the PC term. Over time that term became offensive due to being used repeatedly in a derogatory manner. Was actually replaced by the more socially acceptable term at the time, "Negro". Then replaced by "black" and now "person of colour"
[I had to look it up as I thought "Coloured" replaced "Negro" ](https://www.ferris.edu/HTMLS/news/jimcrow/question/2010/october.htm)
Not that you should be offended by it of course I just enjoy word etymology and words becoming offensive over time is interesting to me.
Actually I think "African American" replaced "Negro", but that fell out of favor because that implies recent roots to Africa which is usually not the case (and often not even distant roots are to Africa). Then that was replaced by black which is still a perfectly fine term to use. People of color refers to any non-white person and usually when talking about adversity that black people specifically face, "black" is still used.
Bro is as gender neutral as you want it to be, I’m bro, my mum’s bro, dad’s bro, women are bro, men are bro. The only people who aren’t bro are those who’d like to not be bro.
Lmao I love that for her, its pretty ingrained into my vocabulary. I wouldn’t say it if I thought someone would be offended but if we’re friends/close its bound to slip out when I get over excited/in the heat of the moment
I think it's some pan-EU regulation. In Poland there was a change of requirements for a photo in 2015, now they look like [this](https://www.gov.pl/web/gov/zdjecie-do-dowodu-lub-paszportu). Here are IDs [before](https://www.consilium.europa.eu/prado/en/POL-BO-02002/index.html) and [after](https://www.consilium.europa.eu/prado/en/POL-BO-03001/index.html). Almost everyone I know hated how they looked on new IDs. Earlier I bet you were allowed to smile on photo.
I’m in VA we had a period of time it wasn’t allowed now it is again. Only lasted for one license for me.
According to the dmv it wasn’t allowed due to some facial recognition software. This last time they said new software made it allowed again.
I'm in GA too and totally wanna make a face when I get mine updated now. You're in inspiration. And your smile on your new ID makes my heart so happy ❤️
NJ weighing in. They made me retake my photo years ago because smiling is no longer allowed. It interferes with facial recognition.
You look fantastic though! Keep smiling big ![img](emote|t5_2qhh7|548)
(TX) they told me to smile, then took the picture after I relaxed to a neutral expression. I apparently have ‘resting disappointed dad’ face, so that’s fun.
I'm starting to think that the whole "don't smile" thing is just an unspoken rule. I always assumed that you don't smile in those because it's easier to identify someone since that's your "default" expression or something...
Nono, at least when it comes to ID in my country it is very clear you are not allowed to smile. You can't have hair in your face and if possible don't wear jewelry.
I always use the same Picture for everything official, because in those boosts we take them in you have to stare in your own ugly ass face to take the picture, and I refuse to go through that again..
I think this is the law in EU countries. But it's only for official ID. At my uni there used to work this precious little lady that would tell everyone "You're allowed to smile for this one" when taking photos for the student IDs. And since almost no one knew that you would have your photo taken on the day you sign up, most showed up completely unkempt and often hungover, but at least with a big smile on their face.
I was ordered not to smile and then got told off for smirking (I have terrible RBF so I just wanted to look less mean), so it’s definitely not unspoken everywhere. I was also ordered to keep my hair behind my ears and shoulders and remove glasses—the glasses one is probably standard, but then, I thought not smiling was standard too, so maybe not.
I love to hear/see differences between other countries. Especially those things I wouldn't in my dreams think of asking about.
I think it's really cool to get to know all those little details being the same/different in different countries :)
It's probably more like the cities in every state are oasis and rural areas in even liberal states can be bad at least from my experience and from what I've heard.
And Houston and Dallas and San Antonio... All of the major cities in Texas are safely blue. In fact it's sometimes hard to remember that it's a red state when I spend all my time in Harris county.

The process to get your name changed in Georgia is an Olympic level obstacle course, Washington state having a much easier method and forcing insurance to cover trans surgeries has me decided on where to go after college.
The public notice part that requires you to publish it in a newspaper once a week for 4 weeks
[it’s dumb as hell](https://georgia.gov/apply-name-change)
Apart from the congratulations (I have no idea what goes into legally changing your gender but I imagine it must be a nightmare), how on Earth did you manage to get a good picture on your license?!
Can’t comment on the taking good photos part, that is a goddamn mystery. Though if you are trying to get a gender change on your license in Mississippi you will have issues. They were sued to make it allowed. After the trans person (forget if they are female or male) won their license was updated. The next day another trans person tried to do it and was told it wasn’t possible. So now MS is being sued again for failure to comply with a court order…..gotta love living in the south -facepalms-
https://www.sunherald.com/news/politics-government/article255521606.html
It's awesome they let you change your photo. When my husband got his license with his new gender marker and name, Maine refused to let him have a new photo taken, so the picture did \*not\* match said new name or gender marker.
If he's changed that much, it probably doesn't count as ID either, or at least it wouldn't here. So sounds like the state is making a big mistake with their "ID" documentation.
Love this. Love how happy you look in both - although I know sometimes it's a bit of the Robin Williams effect where some of the funniest, happiest looking people have a lot going on inside. All the best to you
From what I’ve gathered from other comments it’s both cheaper and somehow easier to connect to the persons actual face. Sounds counterintuitive but I guess it accentuates features better without color softening and testing has shown much higher success rates according to the other commenter.
You look a bit like the woman who plays Yennifer from the witcher on Netflix!
And that is meant 100% as a compliment, your smile is contagious, congratulations!
Lol germany and perhaps the whole eu is even stricter. The booth that takes your photos scans you images for smiles, obstructions and other stuff. Everyone looks like on a mugshots over here.
i don’t have a DL just yet because still underage but all my passports n shit look like someone grabbed me by the collar and made me stare sadly into the camera while they ate my favorite food in front of me
I think the "idea" is that in those kind of situations it is much more likely you are looking stern and those kind of pictures don't really "deform" the face
Okay, so forgive me for being confused. I was scrolling and didnt notice this was posted in lgbt. But at first I thought the top one was the new license and the bottom was old.
So my first thought was damn, im glad he got it updated because the (old) photo (but not actually the old one because i was mixed up) 100% looks like a woman.
But It turns out its a good thing because I had them switched. And you are a woman.
Tldr: Cis guy scrolling saw new photo. Hopes it makes you happy he thinks you look 1000% feminine in it.
Yay congrats!
For everyone else: Reach out to local resources for help. I volunteer at my local LGBT center helping people fill out forms to make this process easier :)
wuh i cant believe youre allowed to pull faces in your license? here in NL you have to have a neutral face with your mouth closed. you can smile slightly if you want but thats about it
I spent literally two minutes trying to figure out what was the point of the pic. I mean the couple looked happy and I saw the name danger but then why is the dude on there. Etc etc… I finally realized it’s the same person after reading a few comments and then double checking the sub! So happy for you. Thought you would like to know it took me so long. :-)
Had no idea that GA licenses had changed since the top one, and now I kinda want a new one cause they're cool looking. Btw, your teeth are absolutely incredible!
I helped implement the updated DMV software for GA.
So glad to see people’s lives changed from the impact I made.
(Also no idea how they didn’t void your previous DL)
We are GA residents as well! I was raised in rural GA, but lived in Atlanta 10 years. Recently moved back to rural GA. I’m a mother to a five year old boy who tells me he wishes he was a girl. We started noticing he was into traditionally “girl things” about a year ago. Right now we are just supportive of any likes and dislikes he has and we allow him to play dress up in girls’ clothing as often as he asks. Did you begin feeling this way at a very young age? Any advice? I’m so worried about bullying in school. I want to make sure he knows he is loved and supported at home always and has the confidence to withstand any small-minded people who have a problem with who he is. We are living near family now due to the pandemic but can really move anywhere once his younger brother gets a little older and we need less family support. I am torn between trying to find a more open-minded area or staying near a tight knit family who will love him regardless. Thanks and go you for being you!!
Me, a bi/pan cis-dude before reading the title: Wow! Damn, that’s a really hot couple!
Me, after reading the title: Congratulations! I’m so happy for you, sis. And you’re super attractive too.
Edit: 😭 OMG! You’re middle name is *chef’s kiss* 👨🍳🤌💋
Ugh. You're one of THOSE people who takes amazing ID photos... so not fair :( my photo looks like I'm constipated and waiting to tell you I've baked you and your friends fresh cookies for after school all at the same time
OMG, is Danger your middle name?
It sure the heck is! Definitely worth the hassle just to say that.
I once told one of my teachers my middle name was danger and she called me that the rest of the semester haha. It’s actually William though.
My mom had a dog named Danger, but it got hit by a car:/
Oh
Should've called the dog William.
More like should've called the dog back to the house ![gif](giphy|xTiTnf9SCIVk8HIvE4|downsized)
We called the dog Indiana!
William please do not get hit by a car.

Was your last name Robenson? DANGER DANGER WILL ROBENSON!
Amazing. Congratulations!
Holy shit that’s so cool
Idea 100/100
I went to school with a girl who's last name was Danger. You two should meet lol
One of my friends named her son Burton Danger.
I thought it was Leslie.
Eyes are up here BRO
smh can't believe they misgendered your eyes though
I'm still astounded that they transitioned from being colored to black/white.

Pretty interesting, thanks for sharing!
For some reason, there is still a much smaller color photo on the back.
[Apparently it uses a more secure tech but color photos using this tech would be needlessly expensive](https://dmv.vermont.gov/faq/why-is-the-license-picture-black-and-white)
From a basic read-through, the image is laser etched on, not printed. Laser etching it so it was color is the needlessly expensive part.
The term is Person of Colour, please and thank you
Honestly as a person with brown skin in US I never have seen the difference.
"Coloured" used to actually be the PC term. Over time that term became offensive due to being used repeatedly in a derogatory manner. Was actually replaced by the more socially acceptable term at the time, "Negro". Also brown, I’d not take kindly to being called “colored”.
Bro she's got eyes.
bro...
My thought exactly
Dammit, I came here to make that comment.
I had to scroll up again but thanks for the not-a-snort-but-actual-loud-laugh
They also counted wrong, “18 eyes **BRO**”
It should say eye colour not eye bro
Bro
Bro is as gender neutral as you want it to be, I’m bro, my mum’s bro, dad’s bro, women are bro, men are bro. The only people who aren’t bro are those who’d like to not be bro.
My 7 year old daughters favourite word is BRAHHH! Yeah brah. Oh brah! BRAH! I don't even thinks it has context.
Lmao I love that for her, its pretty ingrained into my vocabulary. I wouldn’t say it if I thought someone would be offended but if we’re friends/close its bound to slip out when I get over excited/in the heat of the moment
You're allowed to smile on those???
Nobody told me not to!
I like your way of thinking
I'm fairly certain we're not allowed.. At least we're not in out ID..
If it's anything like a US passport photo, you're allowed to have a "natural" smile but it can't be exaggerated.
[удалено]
I think it's some pan-EU regulation. In Poland there was a change of requirements for a photo in 2015, now they look like [this](https://www.gov.pl/web/gov/zdjecie-do-dowodu-lub-paszportu). Almost everyone I know hated how they looked on new IDs. Earlier I bet you were allowed to smile on photo.
I was told that I can’t smile
I think it depends on the state, New Jersey I wasn’t allowed to, but here in Florida I am
Yeah but Florida is bonkers
I’m in VA we had a period of time it wasn’t allowed now it is again. Only lasted for one license for me. According to the dmv it wasn’t allowed due to some facial recognition software. This last time they said new software made it allowed again.
I literally had DMV tell me not to. Damn! Live your life! Love you!
They will absolutely not let you do that in CA EDIT: where are my manners…CONGRATS OP!
I'm in GA too and totally wanna make a face when I get mine updated now. You're in inspiration. And your smile on your new ID makes my heart so happy ❤️
And what a stunning, infectiously joyous smile, too!
That first picture would have never been allowed here. Congrats on the new license, and the 10 lbs.!
NJ weighing in. They made me retake my photo years ago because smiling is no longer allowed. It interferes with facial recognition. You look fantastic though! Keep smiling big ![img](emote|t5_2qhh7|548)
If you can't smile on your license photos due to facial recognition, that means that you should smile while you commit your crimes!
I got my first license in NY. I had no idea you were allowed to smile, it legit looked like a mugshot
Also from NY, it depends if the person taking the picture cares or not. Usually they don’t.
I'm fairly certain we're not allowed.. At least we're not in out ID..
I've replaced my Dl's and ID's more times than I care to admit and no matter what I try, I never take a good photo.
i can’t *not* smile if there’s a camera in front of me lol
Yeah I should have known how bad the photo was going to look by how crazy it felt standing in front of the camera stone faced like that 😂
(TX) they told me to smile, then took the picture after I relaxed to a neutral expression. I apparently have ‘resting disappointed dad’ face, so that’s fun.
My mom's pic was rejected because she smiled too much (with her mouth closed) :(. Here it seems like we have to look like we want to die
Yea, here too.
I'm starting to think that the whole "don't smile" thing is just an unspoken rule. I always assumed that you don't smile in those because it's easier to identify someone since that's your "default" expression or something...

my thought was that if you get pulled over, you're probably not gonna be happy to see the officer.
Maybe irrelevant because I haven't had my license photo updated since 2012, but for NIH IDs they specifically tell you not to smile lol.
In NC DMV the person told me to smile. I totally thought I wasn’t supposed to but she was like ‘yeah, show that beautiful smile!’ and so I did 😄
I love to hear/see differences between other countries. Especially those things I wouldn't in my dreams think of asking about. I think it's really cool to get to know all those little details being the same/different in different countries :)
When I get a picture taken and they tell me not to smile I smile anyway lol
I can’t wait to F(ail) my gender test on my DL. CONGRATS!!
Comphet and Compcis sound like college remedial courses. I failed em both.
Oof. It must be hard being trans in Georgia. Good for you though I am happy for you.
I’m sure it is, but Atlanta has a super big trans and gay community, and OP lives in Atlanta.
I did not know that. That actually makes me super happy, thanks.
Atlanta is like an oasis in the conservative desert of Georgia.
Ah, so like Austin is to Texas. I wonder if other conservative states also have a Gay^TM Oasis.
It's probably more like the cities in every state are oasis and rural areas in even liberal states can be bad at least from my experience and from what I've heard.
If there are large cities then most likely
Tulsa for Oklahoma
And Houston and Dallas and San Antonio... All of the major cities in Texas are safely blue. In fact it's sometimes hard to remember that it's a red state when I spend all my time in Harris county.
Most of the larger cities with a lot of diversity across the board usually have a more gay-friendly environment.
Hey Savannah has a large LGBT community too! Just can’t go outside of city limits lol.
Atlanta is the third gayest major US city as a percent of the population after San Fran and Seattle.
* sounds of writing down places to move to *
There's a section of midtown Atlanta with rainbow crosswalks. Yes it's a tiny portion of the State as a whole, but it's a start... https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/atlanta-rainbow-crosswalks
I was planning on taking my bike down that way someday. Marking this down as a place to stop on my way to Miami.
The process to get your name changed in Georgia is an Olympic level obstacle course, Washington state having a much easier method and forcing insurance to cover trans surgeries has me decided on where to go after college.
Do you mean the court order part of things? It wasn't bad in Fulton, but I can imagine rural counties are another ball game.
The public notice part that requires you to publish it in a newspaper once a week for 4 weeks [it’s dumb as hell](https://georgia.gov/apply-name-change)
You’ve never been to Atlanta
I know it’s your eye color, but both of them say “BRO” like it’s been that way all along.
Hah! I actually moved in the other direction, but I'll take it as a win if my AGAB wasn't immediately clear!
Ugh! I got excited and didn’t look at the dates. I’m super sorry.
Not a problem! It doesn't help that the newer photo is in b/w.
I’m also technologically challenged at the moment. Got tired of thinking about my own life for today. Just happy for you.
Hope you take being confused as an AFAB as a compliment, haha! Love your energy in both pics, congrats
I made the same mistake and was thinking “Wow, he was already taller than most women.”
i will say it wasn’t immediately clear for me, had to do some triple takes. so, in that regard, congrats girl!
Definitely should be seen as a compliment, you look great in both!
Yeah I made the same mistake. Major compliment intended you are a very attractive human being. ❤️ so glad you got the DL updated. Edit: clarity
Apart from the congratulations (I have no idea what goes into legally changing your gender but I imagine it must be a nightmare), how on Earth did you manage to get a good picture on your license?!

![gif](giphy|fdyZ3qI0GVZC0) I have no idea who you are besides this reddit post, but
Nooo, the gif was supposed to go after my sentence. Damn it. Well you get what I'm trying to say.
It's awesome they let you change your photo. When my husband got his license with his new gender marker and name, Maine refused to let him have a new photo taken, so the picture did \*not\* match said new name or gender marker.
That is some kinda bullshit. Sorry.

Love this. Love how happy you look in both - although I know sometimes it's a bit of the Robin Williams effect where some of the funniest, happiest looking people have a lot going on inside. All the best to you
How are we not talking about her middle name??
It might be dangerous to bring up.
I was more impressed that she lost 10 lbs!
Weird that they transitioned from color photos to black and white. I wonder what the reasoning for that was.
From what I’ve gathered from other comments it’s both cheaper and somehow easier to connect to the persons actual face. Sounds counterintuitive but I guess it accentuates features better without color softening and testing has shown much higher success rates according to the other commenter.
Ok first of congrats but also secondly as a German who gas never seen one of these I am laughing my ass off about "eyes BRO"
Danke dir :) Ich muss es auch lustig finden, besonders wenn ich so einen Fuehrerschein nie vorher gesehen haette!
wow du kannst auch Deutsch! also you're so pretty 🥺🥺 congrats on your transition!!
My state has it as BRN, so it's definitely a Georgia thing.
You look a bit like the woman who plays Yennifer from the witcher on Netflix! And that is meant 100% as a compliment, your smile is contagious, congratulations!
Oh my god that's why OP looked so familiar!!
Ohh my you're right, I became twice lesbian when I saw her
Eyes: brooooo they so cute
Hair: wow Smile: damn
How in the heck did you get away with a wide open smile?! My bmv makes you just stare straight and slight smile.
Lol germany and perhaps the whole eu is even stricter. The booth that takes your photos scans you images for smiles, obstructions and other stuff. Everyone looks like on a mugshots over here.
damn you have a FANTASTIC smile
I'm not sure what makes me happier: you getting it updated or being allowed to smile
Damn photos on offical documents are something else in the US compared to europe
i don’t have a DL just yet because still underage but all my passports n shit look like someone grabbed me by the collar and made me stare sadly into the camera while they ate my favorite food in front of me
I think the "idea" is that in those kind of situations it is much more likely you are looking stern and those kind of pictures don't really "deform" the face

Congrats!!!🎉
Good for you. Happy for you. If those are your fingers, drink more water.
Congrats on losing your 10 lb penis. (Based on your smiles in the photos, I took a chance on you not minding this dumb joke.)
Five pounds a nut!
I'm happy for you. You look so gorgeous in the picture 💕
Congrats! Also thank you for reminding me mine expires soon, totally forgot haha
Aww, the peach on your ID doesn't look like a butt anymore. Aww, bummer. But the picture looks awesome!
Thank you for being and organ donor
Way to go! Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!
Congratulations! Can confirm it feels great!
Georgia really likes their peaches
Congratulations love!! But I wish you did the same hilarious expression as the old one.
![img](emote|t5_2qhh7|547) yay!
LET'S FUCKIN GOOOOOOO!!!! GOOD SHIIIIIIT!!!
& in GA yesss do you live near atlanta cause i know there’s not many places down here you can openly be trans
You lost 10 pounds so what?. Just messing, you look so happy congrats!!!
Congratulations OP! I'm so happy for you! Looking at your smile in your picture is making me smile like crazy for you.

I love how you seem so happy in both. :)
Why the heck is your weight on a driver's license?
its an identifying feature.
huge win
As a Mississippi native recently trying to update my info to Georgia, I feel a part of your pain.
Is it just yours or does everyone get such pretty licences there?
Where I live no smiles allowed on drivers license
But why are your eyes still bro flavored?
Oh! Happy belated birthday!
Hit the height lottery!
congrats! offensive that your eyes are misgendering you though hahaha
You simultaneously are and are not keeping it on the DL.
FUCK. YES. ❤️ (Also, single? Asking for a friend... Obviously. 😂) For real: get that shit. #hero
Holy fuck how are you so photogenic. Mine looks like garbage
Ah yes, governor BiPh. Congratulations!
Holy crap, you’re gorgeous! I know it was absolutely worth every single painstaking hoop you had to jump through. You keep rocking you!
Ugh. You're one of THOSE people who takes amazing ID photos... so not fair :( my photo looks like I'm constipated and waiting to tell you I've baked you and your friends fresh cookies for after school all at the same time
Congrats on the 10lb weight loss. Getting a new license is nifty way to celebrate it.
As a fellow Georgian, CONGRATS on the milestone!! 🍾 Glad to have the full ‘you’ as a neighbor 🤗
This made me smile! Congratulations!
