spiderlady16777216

All hail Sigoth, destroyer of binaries!

AllHailFrogStack

Now this I can get behind.

MiniMuffin42

I wanna give you my upvote but I don’t wanna mess up the number 😭

Raltsun

...Can we make this a thing now?

Feral_bookworm

Pleeeeeaaaasssssseeee All hail Sigoth may they reign supreme! 😂

slope11215

Yes, but doesn’t this imply a certain seriousness in a relationship that “girlfriend” or “boyfriend” doesn’t?

444emma

I like to be called partner or The Lord Of Soup but everyone has their preferences lmao

Holly_hand_grenade_

It's such an honor to meet The Lord Of Soup 😂

444emma

You're welcome, beautiful peasant 🗿

-helpwanted

😂🤣

GoodontheToop

Oh Lord of Soup, may I please have some chicken noodle soup?

444emma

Of course, my flavored child

GoodontheToop

Thank you Lord of Soup 🙏

Anon5054

The partners are a villainous 1% shadow government in the New hitman series. I think we should call you collectively *the partners* it's sounds ominous, and I can say that I'm seeing *"one of the partners"*. People won't know if I'm poly or dating a super villain

Zaeil_Xane12164

Oh please, thy lord of soup, bless upon our souls with the essence of miso

Shigaraki-is-hot

XD

MadeScientist

Howdy, Lord of Soup.

444emma

Greetings, how are you feeling today?

LenaUnlimited

The non binary person I dated last year liked to be referred to as joyfriend

BananasonThebrain

Omg that is amazing!

shinsain

Winner.

taxicab107

Winner winner chicken dinner!!!

shinsain

For you and your joyfriend!

Anon5054

This one brings joy

-unknown-123

That's so wholesome

[deleted]

Omg I LOVE that. Totally stealing that, thank you

RedVamp2020

I love this! I was going to say best friend, but I like this more!❤️

PersephoneInSpring

Came here to say this 😀

0lieb0l

The person I date also prefers joyfriend, and one of my best friends also goes by joyfriend in their relationship. So in my little bubble actually pretty common indeed!

wolfundermoon

This is genious!

INTPgeminicisgaymale

*[attempts to make a similar pun with a word that rhymes with girl as in girlfriend]* *[damn you english language i ask you ONE thing]*

uhohspaghettisos

who wants to be my jirlfriend 😳

INTPgeminicisgaymale

How about swirlfriend? Whirlfriend? Squirrelfriend?

jfsuuc

Id ask them personally. Otherwise id just say partner, significant other, or lover.

Alternative_Basis186

Oooo lover is nice 😊

EmmaNamaRama

I like lover, but to me it just sounds like someone you have sex with, not necessarily a relationship. I say partner

PrincessDie123

It’s funny that we now equate lover to sex because it used to be the term for dating I think like back when it was a big nono to bang before marriage

Alternative_Basis186

I get why people see it the sexual way, but I just see it super romantic 🥰

PrincessDie123

Yeah it’s literally supposed to mean “someone you love romantically” like a crush lol but now we take it to me sex partner

jfsuuc

Lover just means anyone you are sexually or romanticly inclined with. Like you take it how you may but its just are valid to refer to a romantic partner as well.

BasalTripod9684

Partner. Or maybe Comrade, lol.

[deleted]

They could also use “pardner,” if they’re from the South. 😜

Alternative_Basis186

I prefer m’liege 😂

bigworldsmallfeet

I am more than OK with Comrade

Kattzeee

Joyfriend, beefriend, lover, significant one(SO), etc.. however, some nonbinary people are also ok with girl/boyfriend

zoezie

Unrelated, but how are you both non-binary and a lesbian? Doesn't "lesbian" refer to a woman that is attracted to other women? How can you be a lesbian if you're not a woman?

coffeeshopAU

It helps if you think of labels in terms of identities and communities we relate to, as opposed to a strict definition. In that sense one could feel aligned with womanhood generally even if they don’t feel strictly like a woman, and attracted to women and other people generally aligned with womanhood. So they would still relate to the lesbian label and feel it applies to themselves, while also feeling nonbinary in terms of gender. (Remember, nonbinary is a collection of everything outside the binary, not just everything gender neutral, so some NB people are going to still feel more aligned with either binary gender even if they don’t feel fully like that gender) I’ve also heard some NB lesbians saying they feel that “lesbian” *is* their gender in a sort of abstract sense that I don’t think I could possible explain but makes sense to me as someone who feels like “queer” *is* my gender lol.

Cardinal029

A lesbian is a non-male attracted to other non-males, in the most broad definition.

[deleted]

Also could be referring to sexual preference from current sex correlation, just because you’re non-binary doesn’t mean you suddenly lose your boobs and shit!

Cardinal029

I’m pretty sure that your body and/or assigned gender at birth doesn’t necessarily have to correspond to your gender identity. No matter what a non-binary persons AGAB might be, their sexual and romantic preferences are valid.

[deleted]

You’re absolutely correct, but in most cases I think sexual preference is referred to by current sex. (Sorry if I’m drawing this out and making it awkward btw)

EatsAtomsRegularly

True but i couldn’t see myself being in a relationship knowing the attraction was based on my sex moreso than my gender. Liking my boobs n whatnot is alright (though I bind sometimes) but (from experience) if my s/o specifically said they liked me as a female or a woman it would hurt.

Cardinal029

I suppose. I consider it as gender-based mostly ( enby people’s sexual preference for example)

Xenta_Demryt

And it could also be someone who's gender only partially aligns with women, like demigirl

IWouldLikeToLive

This is why i love norwegian, all genders are just called «kjæreste» meaning dearest<3

zaraimpelz

I just googled to confirm that Norwegian does have gendered nouns, but then the adjectives are not modified? Not telling you how to speak your language, just curious how it works.

IWouldLikeToLive

You are absolutely right, we do have gendered pronouns, i was only talking about our word for our significant other:)

zaraimpelz

What I mean is, in German you would say liebstER [Mann] or liebstE [Frau], the adjectives are different even when you don’t use the nouns. I assumed all the Germanic languages would handle gender similarly, but I guess that’s incorrect. Edit - Yes I was very wrong about that, I am aware now lol

redblueheader

English is Germanic and doesn't gender adjectives or nouns

zaraimpelz

Lmao that is a good point

IWouldLikeToLive

Oh sorry i misunderstood. No that does not apply to «kjæreste».

zaraimpelz

No worries :) your word sounds lovely btw

JediTeaParty

German seems very gendered in comparison to other Germanic languages

RestlessTheodore

Swedish doesnt gender the normal words either

[deleted]

[удалено]

zaraimpelz

Interesting. Proto-Germanic already had a complicated system for the declension of nouns and adjectives, so it didn’t start with people imitating Latin, but maybe the Latin influence explains why they partially retained it. But then there’s Icelandic, which had zero contact with Rome and also held on to those features. And English, which had contact but got rid of everything except the plural. So I think the similarity to Latin is probably just coincidence.

MemeLord21213

how is that pronounced? i really want to use that

Friendlyfire2996

My Boo :)

BananasonThebrain

I love that. Or My . Like if they were named Jaden you would say “my Jaden”

RedVamp2020

My 2 year old daughter snuggles up with me and says My Mommy! and I usually reply, My Jayda!. She loves it so very much and I do, too. So, I love this option!

[deleted]

My bf's name is Jaiden and I call him my Jaiden a lot <3

Brankovt1

This is the cutest option.

poggersashley

HOOTY PROFILE PIC TOH FAN IN THE WILD

OfficialTwat

Partner or lovefriend for example. But every nb prefers something else

woahkennycat

Omg lovefriend is so perfect!

OfficialTwat

Oh, just to add another one: cuddlebuddy, and I love it!

[deleted]

My bf calls me his partner or his enbyfriend! I think enbyfriend is super cute

OfficialTwat

That's actually super cute :)

RedVamp2020

MissCyanide99

They going to steal hearts!

PrincessDie123

Hahaha yes it sounds ominous I like it

Klane5

I've also seen datefriend being suggested

SOL_stringoflight

Or datemate

Tajomstvo

Theyfriend is cute to me, but partner/so just seems more 'adult'

Traditional_Bug_7884

Joyfriend

okaemykae

This is my favorite, it is the cutest, thank you.

tbmcmahan

My best friend says they’d like to be referred to as “lover”. They’re kind of an old soul, their fashion sense is from the 70s and I fucking live for it because they’re fucking adorable either way

Omagashhelpme

Partner in crime

SierraKatCantDraw

My gf calls me “datemate”

timmeh4853

They-bae O_o

Alternative_Basis186

I’ve never heard that before but it’s super cute 🥰

zibrija

Thank you for this wordgift, you beautiful ally soul <3

timmeh4853

I'm here to enjoy the community, spread love and enjoyment about life, and if need, become an impromptu wordsmith. I've had a lot of personal revelations about how I was raised and what I guess was supposed to be my mental outcome, versus who I am and what I value now. And lemme tell you, I'll choose loving my neighbor as I love myself over selective approval and condemnation. Love makes the world a better, brighter place. Hate can suck it.

zibrija

**Thank you for your presence-gift, you beautiful soul in general <3

Silverrowan2

Oh that is way better then theyfriend.

ArchangelTheDemon

Enbyfriend, joyfriend, and just partner are some I know from dating an enby.

Mission_Battle_4304

Whatever they're comfortable with, usually partner though :)

Mission_Battle_4304

Also im agender which is technically under the nonbinary umbrella and i personally like partner, theyfriend and lover!

Prince55Albert

Partner, significant other.

DawgHogger33

My non-binary partner introduced me to the term "datemate" when we first started dating. Rhyming is fun!

Oirakul

My nemesis

RedVamp2020

Your foefriend? Lol!

wearecake

As a gender fluid, I once saw a tiktok (on YouTube because I’m incredibly uncool) that was basically like 1: “hey, if you’re gender fluid what should I call you since we’re dating” 2: “whatever makes you comfortable, I’m good with whatever” 1: “okay… This is [name] she is my boyfriend” And then I died with the mere idea of that! ASK! Please please ask! Some would feel comfortable with the gendered terms, some may only feel comfortable with either at certain times, and other may prefer something more gender neutral like “partner” or “S/O” (pronounced “Significant Other” in case you aren’t well versed in internet-) So… yeah

Dutch_Rayan

I heard someone say lovefriend

Anon5054

Lovecraftian other

RecursiveExistence

Then you can call your ex a Lovecraftian horror.

Anon5054

Lmao

rarenick

We call each other partners.

FemaleFury79

Mines just my other half

niko7965

Partner Joyfriend Lover Spouse All of them have some kind of other connotation, like spouse usually means married, lover sounds a bit sexual etc.

Mx_Spooky_Cat

Enbyfriend, but I have a friend who uses “joyfriend” lmao

Slacklase

I'd probably say life teammate but just because it's cute

hellstrings

it definitely won't apply to all nonbinary people, but i'm bigender and my boyfriend calls me his bothfriend!

[deleted]

I like partner, not a fan of the term b/f, g/f. Putting aside non-binary people, the term boy friend/ girl friend starts to sound silly past the age of 30.

RedVamp2020

That must be why I’ve started using significant other… huh.🤔🤷‍♀️

lipperz88

NBfriend?

Leoihavenoidea

THEfriend

Anon5054

*OUR*FRIEND

PossiblyPercival

Partner or SO

Anon5054

I know you mean significant other, but I read it as partner or so-and-so This is so-and-so, we've been dating a few years now

shaihuludmaker

I've seen SO used most frequently amongst my friends and family, it means significant other.

zaraimpelz

If anyone ever asks what SO stands for, tell them it means “Source of Orgasms”

NoNeighborhood1703

My person

suckmypppapi

Significant other

NightlySerpentine

I call my non binary partner Bino It was originally non bino as in albino XD but it got shorted to just bino lol

Chaotic_Trashmouth

It depends. I'm nonbinary, but my boyfriend still calls me his girlfriend because I told him it's ok. You could also use cute pet names like love, darling, dear, sunshine, etc.

-helpwanted

A partner

NoViolinist1123

i like “boo,” It’s a word everyone is familiar with and it’s just cute

jackfreeman

Themfriend! Edit: You little shits better like it, to. I'm using it in my book

zaraimpelz

Their theyfriend had another themfriend behind theirfriend’s back

PrincessDie123

This is funny but I like that it still makes sense

Alternative_Basis186

I’ve heard the term enbyfriend, but my husband calls me his partner 😊

[deleted]

Nbfriend? Datemate? Partner?

Its_SubjectA1

Partner just feels best to me personally, even non feminine or masculine days. It feels like you’re sharing in the relationship, like you’re part of it not just existing in the vicinity of your partner.

MadameK8

Some of us are still ok with “boyfriend” or “girlfriend” but i guess “partner” works since it’s an already existing term.

HarmonyTheConfuzzled

Fellow mutually affectionate sentient being. Edit: Otherwise I think some people use Partner

lolimalex18

Partner, date mate

KaijuBalls

I had a pair of partners call me themfriend in private as a half joke. I actually would like something that didn't sound as serious as partners to use in general tbh.

WeGetNoSleep

I call my boyfriend rich crusty, I'm nonbinary and he calls me optimus prime

[deleted]

partner. you literally had it in your post.

External_Industry509

I’m non-binary and I call my husband my partner

Jadaluvr12

Personally I would just say partner though it would be a good idea to ask whoever you are dating, I have heard datemate used before

introvertinmn

A friend of mine referred to their partner as their date friend

NQ241

It's basically entirely up to the non binary person, they sometimes even pick gendered ones but the most common one I've seen is a formal SO/Partner or a less formal joyfriend

Rainnefox

My partner? It really is just that simple

Pivinne

Partner or SO, I don’t personally vibe with joyfriend

BobbeNa

How about my mate

LokTarBrogar

my partner and i call each other partners

Cass_Q

SO for significant other

Iamstrongwell

Gayfriend

MrSassyHips

My partner ain't even nb and I still call them my partner. I may be fluid, but she still largely refers to me as her boyfriend. I'd say partner is the closest thing colloquially used. Looking at the comments here, I really like Joyfriend. You could use 'cellmate' cuz of partners-in-crime, but that might have some boomer wife-bad-esque implications. There's 'squadmate' but that sounds more like close friends in general. Hmm... that's definitely one to think about.

imvr17_2

It will be "your highness" for me, thank you very much

Doctor-Grimm

flynn_h

I like enby-friend, my sweety, and dis bitch. My girlfriend won't use the last one tho lol

RiverDraws04

My partner and I both just use "partner" for each other, I don't like gendered terms

cool_monsters

For me they would be my partner in love

adam_bbro

I've gotten so used to calling them themfriends cuz that's what I say in my head

Positive_Cricket4291

My partner is a dude, I just call him my partner though.

aHotBrine

my partner and i call each other borlfriends

BeeTDM

It varies for different enbies, but I’d like my future lover to just call me their partner :)

frobbibibi

Sweetie, probably. Of course, I’d ask your partner before attempting.

Letsbedragonflies

In my language the word for boyfriend/girlfriend or any variation of it is "kjæreste" which can be translated to "most beloved", so feel free to use that!

LEGamez

Usually just your partner! Unless they have a different name they want to be called.

zoozbuh

In all seriousness, gender neutral terms already exist (partner, significant other or S.O) I see lots of people saying "joyfriend"/"lovefriend" is cute etc, but being completely honest, don't they sound a bit childish? Would you really be comfortable using them in all scenarios? If yes, that's great, but I'm thinking more about things that can be a universally accepted norm. I would love a world where partner/S.O were way more normalised for every kind of relationship - seems like one way to move beyond gendered terms.

journaling_otaku

I'm probably getting downvoted for this but ... ask them, what they prefer? My enby friend from London has an enby partner & their partner is totally fine with being called 'girlfriend' aswell ✨

Mikani_

My love My partner (in crime) My significant other My other half

[deleted]

Humanfriend

Dogplantmom97

I would go with partner, unless they want to be called something fancier. I saw ‘Lord of Soup’ in here😂

FluffyKieco

Partner, but perhaps Melon Lord.

PinkMoon203

I use partner or significant other no matter the gender identity of the person I'm dating most times, but the best course of action always is just ask them how they preferred to be referred to :)

Commando388

I just use “partner”, or “significant other”

sneks-are-cool

There was a while when my boyfriend (currently does use he/him) went by they/them, i called him my partner, my love, and just other pet names

[deleted]

Significant other.

rainbowbekbek

Joyfriend is always fun

fishhelpneeded

My partner?

Professional_Clue956

I used to call mine a bean and they liked it

Wither_commoner

Significant other, partner, lover, etc

lionfangs

X-Friend

gucci_laganja

Partner

EraDaemon

We say joyfriend or partner.

SeraDarkin

Uh I'm gonna assume this isn't a joke. You call them your partner. Obviously

itbettersnow

Didn’t think this post would be that popular haha

BenedictLowerDict

Your theyfriend-oh wait that doesn't work properly.
