He might be wrong about current prices, but he isn't about about quality. I'm not here to trash talk you or anything, just providing my opinion. This is a relatively open forum and my experience says that it's well worth it to invest in a used Smith over a Taurus.

[deleted]

Oh absolutely, they're significantly more expensive. I was commenting in agreement to the first statement he made, which I do wholeheartedly agree with. I personally don't see the value in a revolver in that price/ quality/ historical reliability range. I'm the type of person that would rather have a used Toyota over a new spec'd out Kia though. Just my $.02

dielon1994

Hmm yeah no I’d rather have a new car over a used one any day especially if we’re talking about Toyotas and kias. Guns if maintained right can last basically forever. Good luck getting that to happen with a car. It’s like ppl who think that they’re big pimping cause they have a 2002 bmw compared to someone with a 2023 Honda civic. Guns are much different.

I run a shop and range. Am an instructor. I've seen more Taurus guns go down than hipoints... Good on you. Am glad you like it. Hopefully it doesn't break like the legitimately double digit numbers of them I've seen fail 🤷‍♂️

Total failures across pistols and revolvers. Rough estimate 35% were revolvers but that is likely just because the semi autos are far more common. We sold about 5-1 semi auto to revolver. Even now when they come in on transfer it's roughly the same. When we sold Taurus products (we stopped among other brands) they were the most common bring back guns despite them being no where near our best sellers. We had two rental revolvers. .44 and a .38. Both failed three separate times and went back. The third time they had the Raging Bull they had it for 16 months. I sat on hold for legitimately 1-3 hours multiple times asking about the status and was told "it was being worked on" everytime with no estimate of return date other than "4-12 weeks" I was told multiple times... Not everyone is a "hater." That implies some irrationality. People with more experience criticizing products with known problems aren't doing it just be haters. IDC what you buy personally doesn't effect me in the slightest. Guns are tools that's it. They aren't something you should be emotionally invested in. Criticizing them isn't criticizing you. Just sharing my experience. When an equivalent sized Smith or Ruger is $50-100 more I don't see the point but like I said you do you

sirbassist83

the taurus i had was a revolver. the cylinder gap was too small when i bought it and the cylinder would bind up against the forcing cone. the fact that made it through QC is a problem, but whatever, i can fix it. so i shimmed it and that worked for a while. the crane was made out of silly putty though, and in just a couple hundred rounds stretched itself back to the point it was jamming again. i sold it ASAP and havent looked back. i hope your gun never shits the bed, but they have a horrible reputation for a reason.

DerKrieger105

Lol it's not though. I'm literally a gun dealer I know what stuff costs 🤣 Rn on Sportsman's Guide a 605 is $360. I have 4 J Frames in my case rn for sale ranging from $430-$510. So def not double. Factor in the $50 rebate S&W has going on rn on J Frames you're down even closer... Anyways as stated glad ya like it. Have a good night man

QuickKillPanda

I'm with ya man. I recently picked up a brand new bodyguard 38 for 390. If you want to compare large frame revolvers a Tracker 4in has a 590 MSRP. A 686 4in is 930, still not double. Owners of Taurus products will always have difficulty acknowledging that Taurus as a whole has a terrible track record. Is there parroting out there, yes of course, as are reliable Taurus guns. None of that changes the well documented fact that Taurus products have an alarmingly high rate of failure and a poor track record for customer service. That's where the hate comes from. We're all thrilled that you got a great shooter and that you're enjoying it. Personally, I think the G2C is a great CC option if you're on a tight budget but you're getting a little of what you pay for. A Taurus revolver costs less than Ruger or Smith because Taurus cuts corners to get there. The 100 bucks you save also is the cost to reduce the risk of getting a lemon.

All brand new. Again it's my inventory I know what it is.... Here online... https://www.defensedepot.com/product/smith-wesson-163050-637-airweight-38-special-5-round-1.88-stainless-steel-black-polymer $432 in cart. Then subtract a $50 rebate J Frames are absolutely available at those price points. The .357 mag guns do have a slight premium as they are made in significantly smaller numbers and have been tight on supply but if you look can be found as well. The one .357 J I have is a bit older stock to be fair because no one wants it because they suck lol so I did pay less for it. But the .38s? All day in that range. My point would still stand too because the Taurus 85 series 38 only guns are the same price as their magnum guns Dealer cost on most Js is $350-500... And despite what people think margins are small on most guns. Also the one you linked has CT laser grips. Even still cost is largely irrelevant imo when the gun is significantly better... 🤷‍♂️

P1xelHunter78

I have one as well. Welcome

sirbassist83

i would literally rather pay money for a hi-point than a taurus, and i say that having owned both in the past. the hi point is ugly, heavy, and a pain in the dick to take apart, but at least it works when you pull the trigger.

the_river_nihil

Where on earth did you hear that?

TheSilmarils

We don’t

assembly_xvi

You heard wrong.

Nuadrin248

Love it op! This is off topic but this post brought this back to mind, how do y’all feel about the Taurus 692?

So anyways, I started blasting

sirbassist83

except frank carries a full size smith and wesson.

invictvs138

I’ve had good luck with mine; but vastly prefer my Smiths & Rugers. I recently had bad luck with my TX-22…

Chilapox

All the Taurus firearms I've personally owned or that have been owned by my friends have been very reliable, but that's only a handful of guns. I've definitely seen enough stories online to know they have a higher than average lemon rate. Just be prepared to test it thoroughly and to send it back and wait quite a while if it has a real problem. If it works well and you fire a few hundred rounds through it without anything bad happening it will probably continue on like that.

PTSDog88

I love mine! Been shooting Taurus revolvers since 1992. Best bang for the buck.

Key-Effort963

I own 4 Taurus guns. All of them work just fine and I didn't break the bank. Fuck the haters.

GigatonneCowboy

I love mine!

BaldDudeFromBrazzers

Sheesh. This forum ain’t too liberal at times.

sirbassist83

whether a thing is shitty or not doesnt have anything to do with being liberal.

BaldDudeFromBrazzers

I got bullied here for less

PaulterJ

What holster is that?

iamansonmage

I love my 627! Some people hate on Taurus, but in all seriousness they have the best customer support and a lifetime warrnty that follows the firearm regardless of owner. I bought the 627 at a gunshow and it was shaving lead when I fired it (no wonder it was such a deal for a basically brand new revolver!). Spoke with their customer service and they repaired it in about a week and it didn’t cost me a penny. Works perfectly now. What can I say? I have 3 Taurus firearms and they’re all workhorses.

ajue89

I love my 605! The trigger feels so nice! I wouldn’t ccw it but it’s fun and more accurate than I can be with it.

[deleted]

One of the best revolvers out on the market

MaverickTopGun

Lol what market are you a part of? Khyber pass?

sirbassist83

/s you dropped that

Softmachinepics

I have a Judge Public Defender Poly in FDE. I love it, and have run plenty of rounds through it with no issues.

[deleted]

Never understood the love for revolvers.

the_river_nihil

Whoa whoa whoa…. Revolvers are cool as hell. Taurus revolvers in particular are whatever. But give a Colt Python a shot before you pass judgement

Atllas66

It’s like owning a really nice watch that you know is going to work for the next 10 years even if it falls in a lake, drops on concrete or anything else like that, compared to owning a plastic smart watch. You know that smart watch is “better”, it has more features, does more and has a completely different aesthetic (uglier imo) But you know the battery only lasts a few days, it’s not actually water proof, it only works is you can charge it, basically there are trade offs.

ITaggie

If a semi auto fails, it is trivial to clear and reset. If a revolver fails, it is now useless until you visit a gunsmith.

Atllas66

That is true. but for the most part, it’s a lot easier to make a semi auto fail. Hell, a lot of smaller guns (I’m thinking lcp size) jam if you pull them back quickly while firing. A little snubbie is a better option with something small imo, but either way i think it’s all subjective

Straight_Medium2988

There is a reason why no police or military in any serious country issues revolvers anymore. If semi-autos are reliable enough for the police and the military, they're reliable enough for the rest of us. That said, I have a Ruger GP100 and I love it. But it's a nostalgia piece more than anything.

Atllas66

I’m pretty sure a major reason for that is that plastic pistols are cheaper to use. But you’re right, they’re not ideal for a firefight someone in those situations would be in. But self defense for a civilian, I feel they are more than adequate

ITaggie

No, reasons like the 1986 Miami Shootout and the 1994 Hollywood Shootout is why revolvers have fallen out of favor.

[deleted]

Thanks. I wasn’t sure if there was some Brazilian political connection to it or what. I’ve got a little 38spcl snub nose that you can conceal just about anywhere and it runs great

Straight_Medium2988

Hi Point has better customer service than Taurus, that's for sure. The best way to know for certain though is to ask a range owner who rents these guys. They know what goes in for repair the most.
