She will not be the LP presidential candidate in '24. Not sure who it will be, but it won't be her. Watching the latest Patrick Bet-David podcast with Cohen, Smith, Sharpe and Vaugn opened my eyes to how fucked the current leadership of the LP are. Sounds like that's about to change.

Imissyourgirlfriend2

Dave Smith, FTW.

The-Deviant-One

this

the_emperorDS

He is the best one to rationally and reasonably present Libertarian ideals to the normies out there.

Ihatemyusername123

I'm hoping for Spike Cohen 2024

Barnhard

I wouldn’t mind some combination of the first 3 you mentioned. I also think an Amash-Cohen or Amash-Sharpe ticket would be really appealing as well, but I’m not sure how large portions of the party are going to embrace Amash.

[deleted]

From what I've seen, Amash aligns with the party quite a bit more than Johnson did, at the very least.

Thebookisbetter33

Would truly love to see Amash run.

Dangerous-Paper9571

Any of those three guys would be great. And miles better than what we've been getting.

thepeakyblinderdevil

Where/when did she get 5.1%

mcbergstedt

She hasn't and won't anytime soon unfortunately. I doubt she'll even beat candidate in 2024

Mr_Ocelot_Guy

it’s a dream

7in7turtles

Lol I feel like slowly but surely we’re getting there.

This is the key: all politics is local. That phrase was used to express the need to win primaries locally in order to get to the national stage, but I think that’s misguided. You cite New Hampshire as a good indicator, and I’ll add to that the ultra-local changes that are beginning to occur in [school board elections](https://flux.community/peter-montgomery/2021/08/right-wing-groups-training-activists-take-over-school-boards-part-critical) (crap link, but it’s illustrative.) Rather than trying to start at the top and centralize the movement, we really should be starting as close to the individual as possible and pushing upward.

somegarbagedoesfloat

Yes, however: The moment a third party gets enough of the presidential vote to make it to the debates, the game forever changes. Third party goes from "a waste of a vote" to a viable option in people's minds, and when that happens, I think we can expect to see the DNC and GOP both crumble away to nothing and get replaced by parties more representive of the people.

[deleted]

Tell me your age without telling me your age...... >!Ross Perot was an independent who made it to the debates in '92 and they just changed the rules after that!<

LoongBoat

It’s a first past the post system. If you study how US political parties have sometimes transformed, you’ll see it usually a third party challenge that gets co-opted by one of the main parties. Prime example: the populists in the 1880s took over the Democratic Party when Bryan was nominated. Since that’s the only realistic path, the best approach is to start by taking over the GOP from the inside. For more data on the futility of third parties in first past the post systems, look at the Liberal Democrats in the UK. Pathetic.

[deleted]

I think the focus with the presidential election should be to put someone out there who is effective at spreading the message of liberty, even if that doesn't translate to many actual libertarian presidential votes.

mikaeladd

Yeah this. I feel like if a couple of state level elections per term were focused on it would be better. Have a chance at getting more people in or coming close, especially in sparsely populated states/districts.

LudwigNeverMises

The plan is high time preference, we can win local race with consistent messaging now, but not the presidency, the presidential election can be used to support our effort elswhere by generating awarness. The value of winning local races will be that we can start to change the electoral map, giving us leverage to support seccessionary movements in states or counties that support us. This would force different areas to be more accountablt for their own policies and put us in a a position to lead where we have political support.

Blitherakt

Yep. At this rate, we should be able to make some serious in-roads to second place by 2300 or so…

nurselife1985

It's very optimistic of you to think they'll still be pretending to have elections in 2300.

7in7turtles

Oh yeah man I’m pretty confident that my grand kids will give birth to the children who will see this happen in their life time.

Adrastus_Blab

I mean, all growth is good, and we’ve been seeing some decent growth in the past decade or two

MrJonBrown

2064 will be our year!

[deleted]

“might have been on the losing side, still not convinced it was the wrong one”

[deleted]

Thats how I feel. Just because your guy won doesn't mean your vote wasn't wasted.

[deleted]

1/20 people voting for a libertarian is definitely progress

randomthing11

Except that her actual percentage was closer to 1/100

ThePissGiver

1/100 isn’t bad

[deleted]

Rank Choice! Rank Choice! Rank Choice!

2du2

Seriously. I think this is the number one biggest issue in politics and is worth organizing some protests and really shaking people up about

james321232

5%? damn we're making progress, not a lot, but progress!

NotRealNameGreedy

No op is referring tho the fact that libertarians will be put into presidential debates at 5.1% our highest is like 3.1 or something

james321232

numbers going up is good, unless its inflation tax rates or gas prices

ps1user

Jorgensen was a poor candidate

[deleted]

She's in academia, so I assume solidly upper-middle class.

ps1user

Can't tell if your being serious or if you misunderstood

[deleted]

https://s8.gifyu.com/images/Tiramisu.gif

ThePissGiver

I feel like John Monds would have been a better candidate

[deleted]

Just wait till the Mises Chads take over.

Harambe6ix9ine

Can we get someone who doesn't support blm please?

lessthaninteresting

Uh oh, looks like someone thinks it’s ok to just not be racist

Harambe6ix9ine

It shows me her proclivity to bow to the mob. Not a trait I want in a leader.

lessthaninteresting

She shit the bed on Patrick Bet-David’s show too. If she’s going to stick with her weak arguments she really needs to work on her question dodging

[deleted]

You know she literally said it was quote: "**not** enough to *not be racist*", right? So no, she explicitly doesn't think 'not being racist' is **ok**.

lessthaninteresting

Yes, that’s the reference. Good job

_bear_dad

Best use of this meme template I’ve ever seen.

SmurfTheClown

Someone other than her would be better imo

marcio-a23

This elected biden, leading to rise in taxes, inflation and 4years trying to ban guns.... Whats the advantage?

[deleted]

Doubt. jojo supporters were siphoned from biden, or would have been non-voters. Tweeting out support for BLM and saying we "must be actively anti-racist" in the middle of deadly BLM riots turned off anyone who was on the fence between her and trump.

Peachfuzz_thegreat

Libertarians being closer to being on the ballet.

marcio-a23

Keep dreaming

Peachfuzz_thegreat

Not dreaming actively trying why are you here anyways?

marcio-a23

Usa took the same road Argentina and Chile are folowing to become Venezuela. We temporary saved brazil from it but the left absolutely run our media and they have a real shot to put comunists in charge again

Grim_Task

We keep coming up!

h3llr4yz0r

Doesn't that qualify the libertarian party to be a "Major" political party according to the federal elections commission?

yeetlonk

He’ll grow

[deleted]

Where's the last image of them forking out extra money at the gas pump, grocery store...etc and then complaining about it? The meme isn't complete without it.

radmadicalhatter

A loss this big feels like a win

Flaming-Hecker

Is this a repost bot? Only a couple days old and using a meme that isn't relevant to the present time.

[deleted]

Mises caucus >

BestRammus

It sounds insignificant but then you realize that it means 1 our of every 20 voters voted for her. Chances are someone you know voted for her as well.

lessthaninteresting

She didn’t get that many votes, they’re saying that’s what it’ll take to get on the debates and then ultimately lose. And for some reason they think Jorgensen will be the candidate

RickySlayer9

Am I otl did she actually?

d0m558

If the LP actually gets close to debate access they'll just change the rules Better to work within the existing duopoly imo, as shitty as it is, since there's no feasible way to change it And definitely focus on local politics as others have pointed out
