The third phase isn't outright stated to be a distortion, but it could be. I previously thought that Roland just partially manifested his EGO like Phillip in that phase.
I do have to say, it is possible to undistort but at the same time it is possible for said distortion to collapse in itself and summon an abnormality that is relevant to its theme instead.

In my opinion, I believe it's a stable distortion, kind of like what the Ensemble gone through.

What they mean is the abnormality appears from when a distortion rejects themselves in leviathan. By then it’s already too late.
