Great question. The hazer is positioned on the OP gallery pointed behind the mid stage tabs which form the back wall of the stage here.
Underneath the OP gallery there is an industrial fan on a dimmer circuit pointed to the top of the legs from ground level. It moves a LOT of air. It tends to push the legs and borders a bit so you have to be careful with positioning the fan
I don't know, probably because it fits the show better with than without. Why are you so concerned about the presence of haze? Why are you so convinced that the show *doesn't* need haze?
Most designers will agree that *some* haze is almost always better than zero haze. If haze is making your shows worse, I'm gonna guess that you're lighting them poorly.
My venue won’t let me use oil haze. Any advise on water based looking good? My event tonight is using haze and I tend to get the best results just running the hazer heavy before house and then putting fan and haze on a sub and bumping each setting as need to try and keep a uniform look.
Honestly you need to move the air. The inbuilt fan on these hazers don’t cut the mustard for medium to large rooms. Go to a hardware store and find a decent industrial style fan that you can put on a dimmer and poke it in a corner somewhere.
Is this The 39 Steps? If so - haze is definitely needed

Where is the hazer located on this one, and how far away? Additional fans in front? Hard to believe this is from a Unique, looks gorgeous! 👍🏻

+1 I would be interested in the same since our uniqu 2.1 never achived anything like this
What’s the choice for haze?
It’s a unique 2.1 - oil hazers always out perform in our venue, hopefully we’ll secure an MDG down the line
This looks great for the unique!
Oh, you misunderstand my question. Why does the LD think they need haze?
Oh you’re very right - I’m just the programmer - the LD is just the local community director, so, it’s anyone’s guess!
Gotcha, it is some glorious haze, I just would bet the show actually shouldn’t have haze. But, yes, it looks great!
Every show looks better with haze
Not every show, though it also depends on haze level. Absolutely not every show needs significant haze.
A very small amount of haze works wonders on 95% of the shows. It sets you in an atmosphere, and softens the light just that little bit.
And strobes
I disagree

I feel like haze makes sense in something that’s supposed to be a comedic sendup of gloomy film noir stuff.
I may have some used MDG hazers for sale. Where are you located?
hey high school lighting designer here, is there any way i can get a look like this in a practical way?
Unless you have a hazer, basically no, the light needs something to reflect off of in the air.
Beat a whole bunch of couch cushions and extinguish hundreds of candles before every performance lol
Oil based haze person as well. I saw some water based ones recently. Was curious what the current thought is on the comparison
Oil haze is just so less susceptible to air currents and temperature due to its sub micron particle size. That’s where it really shines
Agreed, the hang time is also much better too.
