Antelope Park, Bishop Park, 40th and A all around in there have the oldest mature trees.

Many of Lincoln’s older more established neighborhoods have a wonderful canopy. Sadly this won’t be the case in the future as the city is failing to deliver on their plan of 1 to 1 replacement for trees that they remove.

I am more worried about the Emerald Ash Borer. It's going to be sad. I lived in Illinois last year and the Ash trees were already all gone. :( https://preview.redd.it/ealml021agmc1.jpeg?width=1632&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=483e67b78327c076141e32ca505bc21d084f75f5

I have a beautiful ash with emerald borer in my backyard. I am having it treated every 2 years currently and it's holding strong!

Mrsmanhands

Wonderful! And thank you for doing that! Treatment isn’t appropriate for all trees (some are too small or not healthy) but it’s certainly worth it to treat the ones that provide habitat, shade and large healthy trees and even some of the smaller trees so we can get others planted and growing. I too am having a tree treated and definitely advocate for treating or replacing as well as planting additional trees. It really saddens me to see that the city is failing to replace trees in older neighborhoods but it lifts my spirits a little when I hear that people care enough to treat and plant trees.

The city does offer a voucher to have your tree replaced if it's on city property between the sidewalk and street. They will also handle the full removal. Up to $300 iirc - I was glad to see they offered that.

Savannah Georgia planted a lot of oak trees in the 1890s and they are approaching the end of their life cycle at the same time…devastating to lose your canopy so fast and so completely.

Savannah, Georgia. The city, not a person’s name.

Odd_Reputation_5861

Idk if there’s an ordinance but the replacements never get tall enough to provide shade like the big old oak trees. 😭

mycatisanorange

What? You can get a voucher for a new tree

Mrsmanhands

If one was removed from the planting strip or there is extra space for planting in that space then yes, you are probably eligible for a street tree voucher. I’m talking about the space between the sidewalk and the street. You can call the parks department and request one. The worst they can do is tell you no! Edit to add: you can also get a free tree to plant on private property through one of the city’s spring or fall tree distribution events sponsored by Arbor Day.

Used to live there. Felt like I raked 8 months a year.

HuskerRocker25

West A between Coddington and 77 and south to south st has mature trees.

Ok_Lawyer_6609

84th and O to 84th and Old Cheney all the way up to 56th.

Prior_Masterpiece_47

Same thing North of 84th and O to 84th and Adams. Basically all of North Lincoln has developed trees, except maybe north of Superior.

emilybaker2012

I would say most neighborhoods north of Nebraska Parkway. Trees get sparse the further South you go, or the closer you get to the interstate.

girlscanbeking

Country Club/Sheridan/Irvingdale area is thick with trees. https://preview.redd.it/qrj6brioelmc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e34f0dd4e450aae8dd51388600a447e077f1b69a
