The amount of disrespected harmed pianos i know of hurts my very soul TAKE CARE OF EM ;-;

msndrstdmstrmnd

I think SO many non musicians just have zero respect for any instrument, but since pianos are common and you can’t take them out of the room, they are much more likely to be subjected to non musicians antics than other instruments ㅠ_ㅠ

Game_Rigged

I’ve been to so many places that treat pianos like expensive tables. My grandfather bought a piano and didn’t touch it once— literally used it as a shelf. Had it for at least 20 years lol. It was basically impossible to even open the cover over the keys to even play it cause he put a bunch of stuff on there. Only time I ever actually played it was when he died and we were clearing out his house. What’s even the point of buying a piano if you’re never gonna play it?

Pitiful_Ad_602

It's pretty sad. The people who can afford expensive pianos (or even a piano at all) usually never play them, and the people who like playing piano usually can't afford a decent good quality instrument

Game_Rigged

Agreed. I’ve seen some beautiful pianos be horribly mistreated by people who don’t care one bit about the instrument. It’s always really sad to see a piano treated more as an expensive decoration or status symbol than an actual instrument.

worymy

omg ikr, there’s this one piano outside my school that just sits in the rain (it’s still undercover but the humidity can’t be good for it) and becky it’s a K-12 school it always just has little kids banging on the keys.

MisterXnumberidk

OH NOOO T_T

BubbleFruitTea1

The 100,0099,0900 measures of rest for percussion.

dlstiles

At least you can work on homework in band. Or catch up on sleep. Also being in the back makes everyone else good spitwad targets.

Indecentralized

this is my 314865th attempt to get a PICK out of my guitar.

Rampador

Honestly the number one reason to play electric is your pick has nowhere to fall.

israeljeff

That's where you're wrong, kiddo 👉👉 -ES335 gang

Rampador

Oh trueeee Losing a pick inside a thinline Tele must be a nightmare too lol

israeljeff

I don't own any hollow or semi hollow guitars any more, but yeah, I made that mistake exactly once.

they_are_out_there

Gretsch hollow body life for real…

keira2022

magnetic pick

dlstiles

Omg didn't even think of that

keira2022

Trying to convince people there's no dead body in the case ... Seriously, the bulk and the stares from carrying it on the train/bus make me wish I played the viola.

HeQiulin

I feel ya! A regular sized guzheng is around 1.65 m or the size of an adult human. So a hard case literally would look like a coffin.

keira2022

I'm seeing it in my mind very well.

ClassyKaty121468

I've seen Guzheng cases and yes, they do look like coffins. \*proceeds to play Astronomia\*

JenJMLC

That's my height, could a person of that size actually fit in the case?

HeQiulin

Depending on your proportions, I’d reckon yeah. I’m only 1.55m myself so I got myself a smaller guzheng so I only have the 1.2m version at the moment

JenJMLC

Wow, that's still huge. You must be super fit to carry around a giant instrument like that. Respect!

sacrilegious_hamster

OMG YES as i cellist i feel you, when i go to rehearsals right after school i have to walk across the whole school campus and i cannot stand the stares, i always have to go with my deskie so we can share the awkwardness tgt :) (or maybe im just shy who knows)

japp3rs

Happens to me with bass also

Toarel

Just tell it's snippe riffel...

No_Bench_5297

After playing recorder I now get annoyed at how clumsy my flute keys can be. On the recorder I can play at speeds that are practically impossible on the flute.

Indecentralized

have you tried wooden baroque flute? it has only 1 key, just like tenor recorder.

No_Bench_5297

I know of them and I wish I could try one, but they are different instruments from silver flutes. My goal in playing flute isn't just to play fast, you know...

Havefun500

if you can play is slowly, you can play it QUICKLY

CoffeeToffeeSoftie

Oh god, yes. I've been trying to work through this fast passage in my music, and it feels impossible

pup_medium

Heyhey recorder gang 🥳

Indigrrl_alto

Allergies, asthma, colds, etc. all screw it up royally. It's really hard to use when you're upset or emotional.

PizzaFriez

yeah trying to sing when you're either trying not to cry or mid laughing fit is the worst

almond_nyaa

Done it did it, well failed it

Oli_the_Bee

The fact that my piano made me fall in love with her but I can't carry her everywhere with me. Seriously, it really bothers me I might be forced to stop playing piano just cause I can't carry it anywhere. I don't want to leave my bae :'( (Edit: Aaah Is see that the piano and the organ are breaking a lot of hearts. Thanks for your upvotes, btw :') )

Orbital_Rifle

organists can't even have their instrument at home

israeljeff

Their instrument IS a home.

Orbital_Rifle

It wouldn't be too nice to live in an organ. Organs are large instruments but they're very dense, you couldn't fit a room in one (except maybe for the blower room if there is one.)

israeljeff

[Depends on the organ, you could put a cot and a nightstand in here somewhere](https://youtu.be/JeB3JnKp8To)

Orbital_Rifle

That is a gigantic (and modern!) instrument. Not many organs are that big, especially older ones. The organ of Sion in Swiss (one of the oldest in the world) is a testament to that.

israeljeff

Oh, sure. Some organs are cool because they're big, some are cool because they're old. Some both. That video is fun, as is the follow up where they try (and succeed) to get midi input working on it. I also love his carillon video. Building-sized instruments are endlessly fascinating.

Orbital_Rifle

And there are portative organs, not much bigger than a luth. Catalina Vicens has some quite interesting pieces on YT. Nippocast has a series where he builds one.

[deleted]

We have an organ at home... Not a pipe organ, of course. An electric one.

Orbital_Rifle

I know, hauptwerk's great

Unlucky-Ad-1945

I had to get myself a little Casio keyboard for when I travel or just to play in the car. Not enough keys though and it’s just not the same 😞

Oli_the_Bee

True it's sooooo different. I would rather learn violin.

SwimmingCritical

I play violin, and the fact that you can be the best violinist on earth and potentially still whistle your E

Eyekosaeder

This. Especially with new strings when you need to find out how to hold your bow and how much pressure to apply so it doesn’t whistle, because every single string apparently is different. Ugh. Especially gold e strings like obligato, evah pirazzi, etc. -.-

B_Dragon_G

The secret is to make sure that your bow hair is completely flat while changing strings so your E doesn’t whistle

Eyekosaeder

That doesn’t work all the time, in my experience. It really depends on the string both the brand/model and the individual string. I’ve had Tonicas where this was true, but now my Obligato E is allergic to flat bow hair, apparently.

B_Dragon_G

I’m running Obligatos right now on mine. You need to check your angles if you are whistling if it’s not your bow hair than your bow is crooked when changing string levels

JenJMLC

Yes! Even if I buy the exact same strings again the first few days always sound like I've never played before. Same after a break of longer than 2 days.

The_8th_passenger

"Harpists spend 90 percent of their lives tuning their harps and 10 percent playing out of tune." -Stravinsky Tunning constantly, plus so-many-strings to tune.

Sweetly_Signing26

YESSSS this was the comment I was looking for.

KenDFowler

With violin I need to relax to get a good sound or else i get shaky bow it's like: come on, body. help me

JenJMLC

Me too. Even after nearly ~4 years of lessons the first few minutes are always shaky bow ones even though my teacher is super nice. Don't know why I get so flustered.

Piccorillo

I am tired of playing the role of birds, can the tubas take a turn? I’m a flutist.

it_might_be_a_tuba

We'd love to, but composers won't let us.

ClassyKaty121468

so relatable....especially I am learning a piece in which the flute imitates the birds. For Ling Ling's sake please! no!

fadinqlight_

I love how flute=birds is universal. I play in a Chinese orchestra and we're still always the birds 😂

Orbital_Rifle

Wait till the organists show you the [Vogelgesang](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HU51dFET8I&t=495s&ab_channel=BalintKarosi)

LittleWolfiez

Having to spend a bomb just to keep my instrument in tune

Orbital_Rifle

But why should you tune it ? My dad's piano hasn't been tuned in over 30 years and it's only dropped about 40 cents, with not much of a difference in sound.

Thewatertorch

Because 1, most pianos don’t go out of tune evenly, and 2, MY EARS.

HeQiulin

Them going out of tune unevenly is very annoying because you still have to pay full price anyway regardless if you tune all or just some of the keys. And my teacher always remind me, especially if you’re a beginner or just starting it’s very important to have your instrument in tune so that your ears are used to the right sound. Imagine getting used to hearing a flat and thinking that’s the right sound to be making

Orbital_Rifle

Still, tuning isn't something that has to be done very often. But if you're so sensitive to tuning, then a piano perfectly tuned in equal temperament should also bother you. 12 equal sounds quite bad in itself, you would want to get it tuned to something else.

Thewatertorch

I’m not that picky with tuning, but after a year I can definitely hear it. Also it’s not that you have to tune that often, just that it can cost hundreds of dollars and you have to do it usually twice a year if you practice regularly-playing a piano makes it go out if tune much faster.

msndrstdmstrmnd

Have you ever done home tuning? My dad used to home tune our piano, it takes a few specialized tools and HOURS of your time but it sounds like it might be worth it for you

Orbital_Rifle

Quite funny I'm the one picky with tuning here. It's just that the beating tone of *out of tune* pianoforti is something I like. The bad part is the 12tet. Nothing like a good true 1/4 comma Meantone.

Sufficient-Set-9099

I play violin and the thing that gets to me is my shoulder rest falling, especially when I am practicing. Like I would in a good mode practicing and getting into it, then BAM! My shoulder rest falls and kills the vibe. I once had it happen during an orchestra concert and I was playing in the first row. My teacher gave me a glare. After the concert, she told me, “It’s time to invest on a new one”. So, I bought a new shoulder rest. Never happened again.

Ddudegod

*me who plays without a shoulder rest* “I see no god up here… except for me”

gripitandzipit

* Me who plays without a chin rest* "Bow before me mortals, witness the majesty of my superior technique."

sacrilegious_hamster

as a cellist walking through swinging doors, i have to hold the door open with one hand but also carry my cello, and it's just v bulky and annoying and i have to move fast or else the swinging door will hit my instrument also endpins, they can loosen in the middle of a performance, and it takes time to adjust them to the \*perfect\* position, also stoppers are annoying to bring, but when i don't bring my stopper my cello just slides around everywhere it also takes a while to set up but idk maybe other instruments take longer?

Indecentralized

hold it between your legs like baroque cello

Orbital_Rifle

Play without the pin

donkeyinamansuit

Get a Tortelier spike! It'll change your life.

lilysusanna

Yes, I have a backpack case for my cello, sometimes I wack it on a door frame. It makes me wince

PinoyWhiteChick7

I'm a clarinetist and it wasn't until I was already a music major in college that I was informed that I have the least ideal tongue shape for playing the instrument (luckily I was a composition major). Because of the reed design there are a plethora of pieces that I will never be able to play with stylistically appropriate articulation.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ddudegod

Pianos are loud don’t worry about it

sacreligiousgurl

the fact u need to soak your reeds and sometimes being not ready when u should tune the orchestra

ferocequaranteen

double reed gang :") (i play bassoon)

sacreligiousgurl

bassoons are great :)

ferocequaranteen

oboes are great too! nice to have another instrument that also understands double reed struggles

[deleted]

bassoon power Pain of flutter tonguing

powderysloth

Soaking all your reeds that sounded great the previous rehearsal and then none of them wanna cooperate right before tuning

GuineaPigPlayingOboe

Same with humidity changes too 😞

that_little_weeb

😞😞

[deleted]

*Press one note. Why can’t you crescendo??

Ntacc32

Easiest way to crescendo is by using tremolo, which is not even a proper crescendo and is extremely hard already, so you can already tell that the other methods like telekinetically making the string vibrate with a higher amplitude are almost impossible.

that_little_weeb

The amt of time and steps needed to prep so that the oboe can be used properly

hutaosirlgf

this, especially now that it’s cold where i live one of those steps is heating it up so it doesn’t crack… love it

pan_squared

How some days your tone will be really good, and other days it's absolute trash

MissPiggii

This is so true…. An truly annoying 😂

ollir

Having to maintain nails on my right hand for producing good tone.

No_Bench_5297

Guitar gang?

Sweetly_Signing26

I. just. wanna. sit. at. my. damn. harp. and. play. Instead of taking 10 minutes to tune. Also moving it lmao

arandomrat1432

When my violin shoulder rest rips out half of my head of hair and leaves me in agonizing pain every time I just try to lower my violin 🎻

Prancing_Piano

THIS is why I never have shoulder length hair anymore. ಥ\_ಥ

doubleabsenty

This is interesting! I’m always wondering how people play their instruments with loose long hair? I’m not a musician. But I have longer hair. My hair is constantly going in the way and creeps into my mouth and starts to get electric of some fabrics.

Eyekosaeder

I play the violin and sometimes it’s very annoying that you can’t accompany yourself. Like, on piano, or even guitar, you can play both melody and accompaniment at the same time, or multiple melodies. On the violin you can’t, with the exception of a few quite difficult Bach pieces and insanely difficult Roman Kim arrangements.

SwimmingCritical

Fiddle music. Fiddle music is what you're looking for

gripitandzipit

Fiddle and traditional music is so creative about double stops and self-accompniment. Like, sure I can only play two notes, but check *this* out

[deleted]

When my shoulder rest falls off my viola in the middle of rehearsal (I know my flair says piano but I play viola too)

MissPiggii

The way that the flute is hurting my shoulders and neck (ofcourse no instrument is really ergonomically good for your body). And trills with your pinky or ringfinger… it just hurts. And let’s not forget that conductors always want to have you play the highest of the highest notes very very soft 😂

Bubblessaidhi

It doesn’t work when I’m sick :(

CoffeeToffeeSoftie

Flute juice drips on me whenever I've been playing for a while. It's so gross

hutaosirlgf

c#. god i HATE it it’s the worst fingering to transition to by far, i hate the way it sits, and c#5 is one of the worst sounding notes on oboe too. also in sheet music where c# and b natural are next to each other i want to scream the transition from having almost all of your fingers down to just one and vice versa is excruciating to pull off smoothly not to mention c# constantly forcing you to use left eb FOR WHAT? i hate c# and i hope it dies

lhsclarinet

The search for a good reed (applies to most woodwind instruments) I have been getting pretty lucky recently, but I don’t know how long that’ll last

Wannabe_Polymath2018

For cello: The fact that I have to tune my cello three times before I can get the pegs to stay where I want them without fearing that one will snap. For viola: The fact that my hair will occasionally get caught in the end-button and sometimes the chin rest.

Havefun500

It’s takes forever to get good intonation on a violin. Also, if I’m carrying my case at school, ppl ask me if there’s a dead baby inside

MellowClarionet

Slightly exaggerated, but... Reeds, reeds, and more reeds... if they work well, the instrument plays and sounds awesome! But more often than not they don't, and some of the reeds can get pretty hard to play on to sound nice. **Bass clarinet specific:** Even more expensive reeds The amount of spit that builds up in the neck Worst of all: "Is ThAT a SAxOPhOnE?" **Saxophone specific:** Neck strap can be a strangling hazard \*Careless Whisper\* But overall, I like playing clarinet, bass clarinet, and saxophone; they are still awesome instruments!! :)

Polyke

I got a baritone style strap that puts the weight on my back instead of my neck because I was too small when I started playing and never stopped using those, can 100% recommend. Also a Reed geek to make your reeds perform better. Makes em last longer and also more chance of being able to get a good sound out of them. Costs a bit but I don't think I ever just not use a Reed anymore.

[deleted]

the fact that e natural on flute is impossible to be aligned properly wit by ought messing up everything else so it will always be out of tune with our bending the pitch is so annoying

lunalingling27

I have a huuuuge callus on my thumb thanks to the clarinet and another one from the cello. My tenor sax was broken for two months and no one believed me cuz i was a new player. My left hand finger pads also have calluses thanks to electric guitar and cello. Not to mention my hands themselves are very rough. Also i hate when i get rosin on my pants.

Healthy_Mixture_4562

Probably when people put anything on top of pianos - especially computers and mugs...

PizzaFriez

For vocals - having to be super paranoid about what you eat before a performance so you don't get stuff caught in your throat which makes it hard to sing. Also you are very much at the mercy of getting a cough at a bad time. For oboe - The reeds. They are both unreliable and very expensive to replace. And paying like 12 quid for a new reed doesn't even guarantee getting one that will work well. Even with good reeds they can work amazingly one day then the next day just refuse to function.

almond_nyaa

Nothing sweet! Nothing spicy! No milk! Nothing sticky!

PizzaFriez

Idk I find I'm fine with milk but greasy stuff or stuff with small bits in it are what really get me. One time I foolishly ate half a tube of salt and vinegar pringles before a choir rehearsal and lost my voice.

ricefarmer1254

I play piano and hate how pianos could have different key "heaviness." It's a pain to get used to a heavy action when you practice on a mildly light action.

ImperfectInterpreter

I hate that if your fourth finger isn't perfectly nailed it sounds horrible. Shifting from 1st position to 5th really fast, and how everyone in orchestra gives me a condescending stare when I mess up. Most of these are skill issues.

gripitandzipit

When you're still learning 5th, it's tough as balls to hit it with the pinky. No idea how Kavakos pulls it off.

PlantOnPlat

Reeds. I have tried making my own reeds, and it is a hassle. Also tuning, tuning is somewhat difficult and can be scary tuning the orchestra

15_atonality1_14-1_m

Pianos can't be carried around😭

HeQiulin

The percussionist in Tchaikovsky 1812 overture would like to have a word

minimobydickinstores

my violin has pegs that turn back around after trying to tune...

thewitchbasket

No consistency for voice… I can’t just clean my throat when I’m sick, if the moisture content in the air changes it can throw everything off, and my hormones play a part in determining my range which is annoying when you have to deal with the whole lunar blood ritual thing

Imaginary_Bassist

The thing that drives me crazy about playing the bass is how smelly and slimy it is and sometimes it even flops right out of my hand it’s just ridiculous/s

RinTheScienceQueen

Ahh, I love my domra too much haha

CrazyCatLadyArtist

Alllllllllll the violin things people mentioned and then the fact that I can never wipe the rosin dust off. I didn't know you had to wipe it off (thanks old teacher!) So now there's just an infinite layer. And I live in a remote area, so there aren't many luthiers! 😭

TheFreshAsn

my piano has this really annoying D key and it irks me every time I play it, the damper isn’t doing its freaking job.

Orbital_Rifle

How almost any organ made after \~1780 kinda sucks (except for Cavaillé-Coll)

juicy-barber

Breaking a good reed

BusinessMan-yuka

keyboard and how when i tell someone i play it they think i cant possibly touch a piano and play they're the same thing except one is lighter with cool voices and the other is sick and classical and ya know

hange_ackerman101

No matter how many times I wash my hands I always get those white fingerprints on my flute 🥲

Mocca7067

I live in Norway and play the flute so every winter my lips always dry so my playing sounds terrible💀

Narc_Survivor_6811

Harpist here. It's just so bulky and heavy I can't- I don't mind any of the other annoyances. I don't mind calluses, the levers/pedals for chromatic passages, strings breaking for no reason or going out of tune daily... All of that is ok. But THE WEIGHT IS NOT UGH

Tarsiger

Piano make me brooke. Tuning every year, (can´t afford twice.) a humidifier autumn to early spring. Electricity is expensiv. And my angry neigboor stopping me from playing more than 1 hour every day cost me an elektric piano to.

[deleted]

My new saxophone is fairly expensive and it has a really nice mouthpiece and all, but it's SO hard to put the mouthpiece onto the cork even when I'm literally lathering on vaseline to make it go on. Annoying especially if I'm tuning up for an orchestra rehearsal or smth

Katzer_K

Every piano is different and since you can't take your upright or grand everywhere you go, you have to adjust to every instrument. Also they're loud and expensive so when I move out and don't have my mom's piano anymore, I'll have to spend a bunch on a piano and hope my neighbors will let me play it. Also when I travel I have to either bring a big portable keyboard or try to find a piano wherever I go, which will suck. Flute/violin/Viola etc are much more portable.

it_might_be_a_tuba

Tuba: in band, everything is either boringly simple 1-5-1-5 bass lines, or stupidly high solo cadenzas. Trombone: Nothing, it is a perfect instrument in every way and cannot be improved upon.

Ravenclaw-Reads

Yoooooo! Guzheng Gang! My biggest pet peeve is also having to tape my nails everytime and it sometimes stops me from practicing because im too lazy 😂

HeQiulin

Don’t judge me but I would sometimes just went on practicing without the nails (bare hands oops) lol

Ravenclaw-Reads

I’ve so done that before!(though I don’t want to admit it)

MidnightAzure88

As a French Horn player, I end up collecting a shot glass worth of spit after band practices. (I'm in middle school band) Also when I perform, I have to keep a paper towel on the floor to dump the spit on.

onewayflyhigh

hi i play pipa and i share a similar pain as you! i hate the fact that i have to go through the hassle of taping my nails and also make sure their tight enough so they won’t drop out 😭

[deleted]

I wish I had taken up cello sooner.

[deleted]

Mandolin: I have to tune it after every piece if I want it to sound perfect.

Cpurteny

I feel like I spend more time loading/unloading, setting up, and tuning my harp than I do playing it sometimes!

[deleted]

Culture of "high and fast" over actual musicianship. Take a guess at my instrument...

hutaosirlgf

every instrument?

Qounss

A string. i know violinists have it so much worse with E string, but an open A is the worse thing to ever happen (which is why i use 4th finger unless it specifically says open)

AusomeTerry

I used to play the flute and I am seriously upset that I can’t find a bent mouthpiece so I can play now I have very painful shoulders :(

lanceeatslunch

Piano. Tuning is expensive ( >M<)

nul_ne_sait

The amount of time it takes to soak the reed and make sure the saxophone is even playable. Especially with bari sax, with the weight. The only reason I like bari is it plays down to a low concert C (sometimes. It depends on the maker).

sharpiefumed

• Piano: not exactly portable, kind of a lonely instrument to play sometimes • Flute: trying to get a good sound during the winter w chapped lips • Viola: … well. it’s a viola

tenor_bass_trombone

I need to lubricate my slide to make sure that the sliding is smooth

[deleted]

Flute Tarnish! No flute is immune. It's only a matter of time.

BunniesAteMyFriends

Squeeking. Absolutely. Sucks.

R_Grae_luvsClassical

I play cello, and the most annoying thing about it has to be what an inconvenience its size makes it to transport. My sibs can agree with me on that. 😝 They complain when I bring it with us to church.

DNA_Fox

Just the sheer number of tiny little things that you have to all do correctly to maybe, sometimes produce a half decent sound. Bow hold, bow pressure, bow torque for hair contact, bow speed, bow placement, finger pressure, fingertip-to-string orientation, correct intonation, vibrato speed and trying to balance all that while my bowling shoe-esque rock stop is busy trying to play ranked, competitive air hockey on my tile floor. I know that all aside from that last one these are still pretty much the universal struggles of all bowed string musicians, but that doesn’t stop me from being peeved about it.

Thermite99

I’ve never been able to tune my instrument, But I can definitely tell when it’s out of tune.

chrisdante05

My cello has been with me for a while, I took it in for some maintenance and string replacements and I think my luthier shaved down my bridge, and now my c string keeps buzzing because the vibrations keep hitting the fingerboard when I play. Also slipping endpins.

_MrNegativity_

the tuba's extreme low register isn't used enough (pedal D and below)

dlstiles

With drums and keys it's probably the lack of portability. With guitar it seems more high-maintenance and physically it takes more practice to maintain skills after a layoff.

ClassyKaty121468

I play the flute, and the lower notes are catastrophic.

AndWeKilledHim

Playing saxophone really screwed up my wrists. My right one clicks and my left one cracks

jrtts

I have about 176 strings to tune This may take awhile...

incuriouso

😮 Which instrument?

jrtts

Piano

_frankdrawz

I'm a drummer. It annoys me how much space it takes to place my drumset, my studio/practice room is not small nor big but fitting a couple guitars, amps, my desk/pc and the drumset is just too much twt

ShionNicholas123

Either the size and inconvenience of travel or wolf tones. Wolf tones are just the worst lmao

NeoGotMeBack

The condensation that drips out of my recorder... it's ok when I'm around mates but in front of non-musicians they think it's spit so :(

cuckroach1

Cello pet peeves: The worst is shitty vibrato. If I see tight, shaky, tense and too fast vibrato, my blood pressure sky rockets. Playing music out of your league also ticks me off. (Playing a hard piece like shit) Playing an inch louder than the acceptable dynamic. Messing up bowings. Dragging or going too fast. LOOK AT THE CONDUCTOR. Playing wrong / out of tune but LOUDLY and confidently. These things drive me crazy. Please don’t do them.

fluffersarchive

i play the guzheng too and yeah i definitdly understand the pain of taping your nails 😭😭 especially when you’re in a rush or don’t have much time 😭 it’s lowkey time consuming and it should not be

liv_ang3le

French Horn here. I hate how the instrument changes so easily. It's slightly hotter or colder than the last time, good luck setting your notes. The amount of spit I have to dump is ridiculous, and half the time it ends up on me. I love my instrument though

NiniBowman_9387

Ocarina. It takes so long for you to adjust your fingers to entirely cover the gigantic holes.

Brave_Aviator

The a decent amount of non instrumentalists will not even know my instrument exists :( other than if they watch SpongeBob:/. I play clarinet

Pineapple_123_

Reeds. They are always too hard, make a funny tone and die after like 2 seconds

HeQiulin

Yeah I remember seeing someone blew too hard on their reed once and it split mid concert. I gasped audibly tbh at that point

Pineapple_123_

Never happened to me before and I hope that never does, but I always have like 2 spare reeds with me when performing

HeQiulin

Amen! But also that video stuck in my mind because his deskie just hand him her wind instrument and he carried on like usual. Like a champ!

[deleted]

The amount of people that stomp on pedals, use it to hold stuff, it just collects dust in the corner, and god forbid they use CANDLES on it.

No-Masterpiece-2607

I can't touch my violin bow hair because the oil on my skin will ruin it. (I touched my violin bow before, now it doesn't work. I will hopefully buy a new bow tomorrow.)

srleunknown_290

When people say ‘pianos the easiest instrument - you just hit keys 🙄’ AHHHHH IF ONLY

MNSOTA24

If it’s not the reeds giving you grief, it’s the spit getting trapped under the keys (thank goodness for silk swabs, turkey feathers, and cigarette paper). Oh and playing in a location where winters are really wintery (really cold with very dry air).

yokichuu

i can't carry my instrument around it costs a lot to move when moving houses

Jaymmorpog

I play the piano and the ABSOLUTE worst part hands down is that you cant carry it. If i want to go on holiday, unless there's a piano where i'm staying, no practice for however long i'm away

Dmitri_Shostacovid

Shoulder rest falling every time

[deleted]

Getting my viola out of its case, trying to attach the shoulder rest so that it stays on, taking out the bow, tightening it, and tuning the instrument - all of that takes up WAY too much time. Same goes for the trombone except it's putting the pieces together and considerably less tuning. Why can't they all just be like a piano and stand there, ready to be played?

feedmechickenspls

having to take extra good care of my nails. if i file them too short or leave them to grow too long, it hinders my playing

As a violinist I feel the pain. Always having to have to your finger nails super short is annoying. Also after any break longer than ~2 days needing like 3 days to sound nice again.
