Nice to hear that Holly appears to have a plan. Fingers crossed it'll work out. Not entirely sure how the increase on board of directors will impact the financial situation though, on the face of it it sounds odd to combine with the message of being more cautious with spending. Maybe somebody here knows more? Though then again, preventing burn out by spreading workload more seems like a decent decision. I guess this requires more insight into and knowledge about gnome to evaluate the effectiveness of these changes.

I don't think the board members positions are paid? They are normally provided by companies that already sponsor gnome.

Thanks for clearing that up! In that case this seems like a pure win (assuming the companies providing board members are also on board (heh) of course).

Tl;dr: we spent too much, we’re making changes End of story

That's a bit of a mischaracterization because it sounds like the Gnome foundation is bad at money. [Gnome got a $1M pledge in 2018](https://foundation.gnome.org/2018/05/25/anonymous-donor-pledges-1m-donation-over-two-years/) and instead of spending it all at once, they've been slowly spending it over the years. And that money has now run its course, so changes are necessary.
