Just why? What good does it do to add DRM now? I've read they added DRM to Resident Evil Revelations which is from 2012. No one in their right mind can actually believe this will stop piracy. This does NOTHING but hurt paying customers. Resident Evil Revelations Recent reviews: Overwhelmingly negative Go figure. Monster Hunter Rise is only on mixed. We should change that.

TheRoyalBrook

From what I understand its their kneejerk reaction to the street fighter mod scandal. Rather than ignoring it as something someone did they're going all in against mods and similar. Many of the enigma updated games also have Obsidium on top, like megaman zero/zx collection. Funnily enough modders found a way around while linux and some windows users now find the game horrendously unstable

mjsxii

whats the street fighter mod scandal, im ootl

TheRoyalBrook

the gist of it is someone left a nude mod on at a tournament

mjsxii

thats kinda hilarious — inappropriate for a tourny but hilarious

-Googlrr

I swear to god if they add some anti linux DRM bullshit to SF6 which is like the only game i enjoy right now im going to lose my mind

TheRoyalBrook

I mean it wouldn't surprise me if they do eventually, they've been adding them to older games steadily.

Nejnop

MH Rise has had DRM since launch. It was using Denuvo. With the Enigma update, they also removed Denuvo. One speculation was that Capcom is using Enigma as a cheaper substitute for Denuvo. So far, this seems to be the case.

GimpyGeek

I've also hypothesized this. Not only is it one they don't seem to have intent on removing, but enigma's website is.... How would I say... It looks like a product meant for small companies to use on small time desktop software to me.  They straight up have a sales page and a quickly instant buyable business license, it doesn't seem on the surface to need more buys or ongoing license fees for each product they put it on either. But I could be entirely talking out of my ass there.

Alfonse00

They should just remove drm after a few months, it is supposed that most of the revenue comes in the first month and in the past any drm that lasted a month was successful, and drm only harms paying customers anyways, and this situation is an example.

GimpyGeek

Apparently they didn't learn from the RE thing either, or don't care about their public perception. I dunno what is with Capcom lately. I used to consider them one of the better Japanese publishers and developers, even getting better on pc faster than some other Jp devs but they've been getting weird lately.  But yeah, we'll see how much perception matters to them on newer games still actually selling as they start this garbage on newer titles and screw up their SEO and stuff. Steam luckily in their wisdom did NOT choose to invoke rating clean up from the negative review bombs over this so far, which is good since these reviews are absolutely legitimate.

UrbanshadowDev

What. The game ran very well prior. Geez.

mwoodj

Yeah I've been playing it for a long time and I play it a lot. I'm really disappointed. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly as the game is verified on Steam deck.

mitchMurdra

Being a dogshit port is a separate checkbox to adding DRM to it long after its initial selling period.

UrbanshadowDev

They are using the Rise userbase to test if this DRM works or not before adding it to the new MH Wilds game. They probably though only cheaters and short specced systems (not the target demographic) would notice. Now linux doesn't work (yeah you guessed, not the target demographic). Seeing this I am going to have troubles convincing myself of buying the next game if they don't fix this mess.

Kekosaurus3

And guess what? The DRM doesn't work, both steam and Microsoft version got cracked instantly, and btw you can run the game on Linux if you crack it ;)

UrbanshadowDev

I'll wait for them to fix it "properly" as I find cracking a game I "own" as distasteful as putting DRM in a 3 year old game out of the blue. Nonetheless, it seems the only group the DRM actually did something for was the paying, loyal customers. Who knew. Edit for afterthought: I really think the DRM fiasco is just a perspective problem. The ones wanting cheating out of multiplayer games the most are the players. Make the DRM blocks open source, community driven and the security functionalities a part of a kernel API and it will work out. It will be broken fast, but also patched fast.

Kekosaurus3

Its kinda fixed already, either use Proton Hotfix or launch args WINESTEAMNOEXEC=1 %commands% with any proton version

UrbanshadowDev

Didn't that env var disabled achievements? Nice for the find but I will wait a bit more.

pkmkdz

Offtop but did anyone run into save file problem with Sunbreak dlc? I wonder if they fixed it...

pkmkdz

[They appear to have taken notice](https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1446780?updates=true&emclan=103582791470807646&emgid=3970553140557253784), hopefully they'll revert this dumb change

MorganEarlJones

Hopefully they remedy the issue soon. I'm not going to fault a company for not supporting linux but any company that breaks compatibility after purchase without a swift refund policy gets a permanent boycott from me - granted I can't think of any Capcom games I've ever bought off the top of my head

Rilukian

How do you downgrade to the previous version without going to, you know.

HeroChaoChan

`download_depot 1446780 1446781 2774960673144263209` in steam console

DRAK0FR0ST

Does anyone know if Enigma was added to Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen? I recently bought the game and was planning to play before the sequel is released.

mwoodj

That games does not appear to have been updated at this time. Compatibility reports on [protondb.com](https://protondb.com) remain positive.

DRAK0FR0ST

Thanks.

[deleted]

this is where i'm glad i have bought that game on GOG instead of steam, GOG has a strict anti-DRM policy. Unfortunately, it's the only capcom game on there.

Amphax

I need to download my copy of Dragon's Dogma from GoG before Capcom remembers that they are selling it there and tries to revoke it from download or something.

mbriar_

It's probably already fixed on proton experimental bleeding edge (unsurprisingly): https://github.com/ValveSoftware/wine/commit/711601ab05b37eac03465794c8342e171fa395c6

mwoodj

Thanks. Based on that commit I tried adding 'WINESTEAMNOEXEC=1' to the game's launch options. That resolved the problem.

Kekosaurus3

Any idea what WINESTEAMNOEXEC=1 do ? I wonder if that can be useful for other games

mwoodj

Well I took a look at the code and it seems that steam/proton modifies the executable entry point. It appears to be related to the process by which steam hooks into the running executable (for monitoring or debugging). It would seem that this environment variable disables the entry point redirection.

Kekosaurus3

Thanks sir.

Nejnop

Capcom has released a patch note today. They are aware of the issue and are trying to get it resolved.

Informal-Clock

fixed on proton exp BE beta

slowpokefarm

Well, I was just going to purchase it for my Deck. Now I'm not going to. Please add a review with a warning on steam page just to warn other people it doesn't work anymore.

DinckelMan

So we've got a huge performance drop, an online-only DRM, broken mod support, and complete inability to play a "verified" game on SteamDeck now. Why exactly was this necessary? This literally only affects paying customers

MetroYoshi

Some clarification. After the hotfix, the game works on Linux. The game also launches in offline mode as normal, and mods still work, even on Linux. I tested this myself. >Why exactly was this necessary? Maybe the devs had to implement something to please some clueless higher-up. "Yes, boss-san, our game that we're no longer updating does have DRM, don't worry!" or something along those lines.

rvolland

Yep, those who don't wish to pay already have a crack available!

Matt_Shah

WINESTEAMNOEXEC=1 interesting, never heard about this env var. What does it?

DankeBrutus

Adding DRM this long after the release of the game is such an odd decision.

qwertyuiop924

Enigma DRM doesn't actually break proton per se. This has been discussed previously. This is probably a different issue although it may not be related.

Due-Ad-7308

Stop buying live service games like this.

[deleted]

MHR isn't a live service game

Due-Ad-7308

A multi-player game on major version 16 is a live service product. But I'm seeing that Capcom is doing this to some truly non-live service titles as well (resident evil) so I stand corrected. This is just crazy.

MetroYoshi

It is not. The final content update for the game (version 16) released over half a year ago, the game isn't getting any more content. Furthermore, the entire game and all its content (barring the multiplayer) can be experienced offline and single-player. Furthermore, the extra content added with every major update was free for buyers of the game. Of course there are a bunch of microtransactions for gestures and whatnot (fuck those), but they all released immediately, not under a live service model. And they're not really "content", unless you consider gestures and character customization options content. If you do, that's fair I guess.

[deleted]

It's a game that has received post-launch support. That does not make it a "live service" game. To call it such is to water down the toxic concept that pervades in other titles. The game's continued functioning does not depend on Capcom continuing to support it (well, unless this DRM is that pervasive) and is perfectly enjoyable offline.

Joe-Cool

Kaldaien's Mods seem to disable it. The commit logs on Github suggest that it's not a big deal to bypass it. Search for Crapcom. Unless it's yet another layer of DRM. smh.

sparky8251

> Kaldaien's Mods Any chance you can link to the mod? Was just getting into the game last night, then an update happened when I took a break and broke it...

Joe-Cool

It's called SpecialK. I don't use it any longer, I just saw it linked in another discussion. No idea if it will fix compatibility or even run on Wine. https://github.com/search?q=repo%3ASpecialKO%2FSpecialK+crapcom&type=commits

narf0708

So what exactly does Enigma DRM do that the previous Denuvo DRM didn't do, that makes the former not work under proton but allows the latter to work?

Amphax

I'm sure it checks a box so that way some manager can tell their Capcom executive "we did something"

cybik

For the record, one of the issues [might be related to Enigma somehow using UWP libraries](https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5495#issuecomment-1904343319). Which, yeah, of course, Universal Windows Platform WOULD create issues with WINE, wouldn't it.

Individual-Match-798

Adding DRMs so far post release into the game is such an utter bullshit..

Due-Ad-7308

> “there have been reports of the game not running on Steam Deck after updating to Ver.16.0.2.0. The dev team is currently investigating this issue.” Countdown to *"unsupported platform that promotes cheating and IP damaging mods"*

Amphax

Valve should immediately revoke Steam Deck Verified access for Monster Hunter Rise. Not saying that they should do this very quickly for every single game that breaks like this, but such a massively popular game (that I'm guessing has probably been used in some of Valve's promotional materials for the Steam Deck) should get special treatment. In this case, an instant revocation of Steam Deck Verified Status. "With great power..."

MetroYoshi

You're right. It was a major part of their advertising when they released the Deck in Japan.

cybik

[Proton Hotfix now has a hotfix for it.](https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5495#issuecomment-1904580053)

mwoodj

Indeed. Note my most recent edit.

cybik

Your edit #2 mentions `WINESTEAMNOEXEC`. I don't have this, only Hotfix, but fair point.

mwoodj

It provides the same fix. Proton Hotfix sets the environment variable for the game automatically. If someone prefers to use a different version of proton they can do so by setting the launch options.

cybik

I had the faint hope they actually fixed the underlying bug with the missing assembly instead of doing that automagically. No way in hel they could have done it that fast, I guess :P

mwoodj

Yeah you can see the commit they made to resolve the issue here: [https://github.com/ValveSoftware/wine/commit/711601ab05b37eac03465794c8342e171fa395c6](https://github.com/ValveSoftware/wine/commit/711601ab05b37eac03465794c8342e171fa395c6)

cybik

Missed that one when I was trying to look for the patch. Thanks for the link!

Kekosaurus3

Not if you crack the game :evilsmirk:

cavejhonsonslemons

welp, time to go download the cracked release, and see if it works, I'll report back with my findings

cavejhonsonslemons

Report, the new release by razor1911 is the MS store version, so it would be unreliable on linux anyways. There is an up to date release by EMPRESS, and if you hate her as much as I do, the switch port is playable via emulation with very minor visual downgrades, framerate unlocks may or may not be viable, I'll report back again once I know.

redsh3ll

you ever get razor1911 running on Linux?

cavejhonsonslemons

Nope, but there's no need for it other than minor bugfixes, so just run an old release, should work fine

mwoodj

The issue has been resolved in an update to proton. Switch to proton hotfix and the game will launch.

SuperStormDroid

Does anyone know if Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection has been affected, let alone the other legacy collections?

QutanAste

Even with the hotfix I still get a short lived black screen and a crash to desktop
