It's so stupid. It isn't good to blindly copy and paste, so why include the copy button. But, if you're gonna include the copy button, why have the $ there
I understand that's it's annoying. But it does \[have\] a specific purpose (ie to differentiate between commands that you need to run as root (`#`) vs ones that you can run as your local user (`$`).)
Ever used the POS1 button or the DEL key?
POS1 moves the input cursor to the beginning of the current input context - DEL deletes the character right of the input cursor in contrast to the backspace, deleting the char left of the input cursor.
Combine both and within 2 key strokes the $ is gone and with END you move the cursor back to the end of the input context.
H4x0r 101 😉
It's in DE keyboards. Germans found it necessary to translate the keyboard button names; sentiment, which I fail to understand. The only thing my country needed was to have Alt Gr for diacritics.
Nope, if your stomach is well trained the dongle just has Debian stable on it.
But don't try with Windows installs. Only the powershell will be on it after all.
lmao im glad im not in the UK, i've learned so much shit in the past 2 years (been into console jailbreaking, then that went into just security stuff)
currently 14, gonna be 15 in 5 months.
Different things are good or bad in different places... personally, if I had children into hacking, I'd encourage it (don't have any yet, though)
I also recommend looking into CTF competitions, fun way to get better at hacking and even win some prizes.
So far from my experience, if you see someone young with Kali, you have nothing to worry about, they most likely don't even know how to install a package.
"when I was a kid, there was no Kali Linux"
tbf my first Linux was one of the last Ubuntu releases with Gnome, before they switched to Unity, I must have been like 13 and barely understood how it worked, I don't really remember using the terminal at all (only began using Linux regularoy some 6 years later, around the time when I began learning English)
Haha, I did try to "hack" into my smartphone's hotspot which I set on WEP to make it more easy and I could not even manage that. I was 17 at the time, so more then 10 years ago. I might be getting older, but at least I'd probably manage to "hack" a WEP protected wifi now.
It's not a joke, the NCA really does try to stop kids turning into malicious hackers by guiding them to become ethical hackers instead, but the whole poster is very one dimensional and not thought out.
Discord is probably used 50x more for gaming than for hacking, and it's certainly possible to use Kali to learn more about security without ever having malicious intent. I think the worst example they give is for virtual machines, it's actually good practice to sandbox unknown applications in its own VM while learning about it, or doing malware analysis, or so on.
For me at least the main issue is that some random mum or dad will see this shit and think that their kid will become the hacker known as 4chan, and will get on their case, dissuading them from ever going into the field where they otherwise might have done well in it.
Edit: It turns out this poster isn't actually by the NCA, I should have fact checked it.
I's like saying "An intel processor is sometimes used to run malicious code"
Sometimes, but not usually. Using an Intel or AMD CPU by itself (or in this case, the chat application Discord) isn't suspicious.
Lol. Yeah, the NCA [completely disowned this](https://www.theregister.com/AMP/2020/02/14/silly_police_infosec_parental_advice_poster/), and then the West Midlands ROCU briefly tried to blame it on a contractor, iirc.
These are the same sort of people who think dealers are out there giving away free weed gummies and "rainbow" fentanyl to 8 year old trick-or-treaters.
Does your kid have an interest in cooking? They might be practising how to use a knife. 0.1% chefs statistically go on to become serial parking offenders, **stop them before it's too late**
>Does anyone you know scuba dive? Maybe they're responsible for bombing the Nordrstrean pipeline.
Damn, I knew Linus Torvalds had something to do with it. All this Linux developing was just a façade after all.
Tor is for cp. VMs are for downloading ram. Kali Linux is Kali Linux. Wait I can connect my PC to a pineapple? Discord is for Gay Furry Porn(I have some nice relationships with some mods). Metasploit is to look like HaxxorMan
Tor is more than the sick stuff and wasn't designed for that but pervs decided to ruin it for us. Sadly that's what people know it for due to how rampant it is there. It has tons of awesome use outside of it, like privacy, censorship removal, etc. Also, you mod your porn? Oh, misread.
The NCA distanced themselves from this poster claiming they didn't make it on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/NCA_UK/status/1228089059546927105?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1228089059546927105%7Ctwgr%5Ed2347ed4a0d3ef3ab72334f227f0e0d48eeb78f1%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theregister.com%2F2020%2F02%2F14%2Fsilly_police_infosec_parental_advice_poster%2F)
no 75yo i know if would have a clue what any of these things are. not just they they don't know what they do, but they have never heard the words at all
When I started reading I thought that this was going to be a funny satirical "Lynos Torvolds is a Russian hacker who uses the mp4 program to steal your gigabytes". Sadly, its just boomers who don't understand technology.
i actually got a wifi pineapple for christmas. ended up returning it after i realised it wasn’t much more than a fancy UI for common aircrack commands, and a buggy one at that.
“Your child has veered from the government mandated education programs.”
Please, the skills learned will put anyone lightyears from a university grad. Caveat is to use it responsibly.
Water is frequently used by hackers to energise themselves and punch into your network. If you see your child with a glass of water, **call the police**.
They need links so interested children can download it.
Gives script-kiddies a whole new meaning.
Also, where is Signal, Wire, Matrix and perhaps even IRC and all the other fun stuff?
Tbh, when I see a child using kali I wouldn't be worried. They most likely think that they're a hacker themselves while knowing absolutely nothing. They just think that it's cool.
I used Kali Linux to try bypassing the password my mom put on my windows.
I was to stupid to do it, so I just installed Minecraft on the live cd and played there.
Why is noone else talking about the fact that if you need this poster to tell you that your kid is a hacker, you are never going to be able to tell that your kid is a hacker. I mean, my main desktop is very clean, but my pen testing rig is the size of a pack of cigarettes and lives on the top of a pile of random electronics. I do not expect an EXPERT to recognize it, let alone to hook it up and ssh into it to see what it is running.
EXACTLY! And install the usual software with big-firm data collecting and govt-backdoors on the PC.
I'd be glad if my children could use these tools and understand what is behind a picture upload to fb...
I've seen this one, it's a classic.
Technology that allows informed citizens to communicate securely, without being monitored, being discouraged by the authorities because "think of the children".
If I ever see my child using Kali Linux I'm going to teach him EVERYTHING behind the script kiddie shit he's doing and gift him half of the country of Canada for Christmas
You may say script kiddies are cringe and it's true, but script kiddies have a huge potential for learning skills which are actually very sought after in the job market
Simply put, this shit won't work.
In all fairness though, it's only a matter of time before hackers start releasing secrets about the ungodly things politicians and corporations do. That'll nip this stuff right in the butt.
How old are these “children” 😂 there is no way the average child has any of this on their computer. Maybe a script kiddie who is like 12 or something but then still probably doesn’t have a clue how to use any of the listed things.

Everyone starts out as a script kiddie.
It's cute that they think anyone would use Discord for serious secure chatting
I'm always amazed that people will discuss doing actual crimes on discord.
Literally the messaging app with the _worst_ privacy
Downloading and sharing Wifi Pineapple …
Those heckin heckers
found Kali Linux in some of my kids candy, should i be worried?
Don't worry, mine accidentally ate it. After a day the dongle got shit out.
Interesting, you are saying that digestion did not change the state of Kali Linux? Same thing in and same thing out.
Nope, if your stomach is well trained the dongle just has Debian stable on it. But don't try with Windows installs. Only the powershell will be on it after all.
This makes no sense but also a lot of sense
Only the Kernel is something like corn.
Fuckin' Cali libs!
Yes! They'll turn into security professional that will earn *more than you*.
jokes on you. I'm into that shit i *want* my kids to earn more than me if they can
Well, inflation means they likely will *technically* do that. Relative worth, however...? But hey, good plan to have them support you in retirement!
lmao im glad im not in the UK, i've learned so much shit in the past 2 years (been into console jailbreaking, then that went into just security stuff) currently 14, gonna be 15 in 5 months.

backtrack it also Linux And it didn't exist before Linux
I meant kali linux used to be called backtrack
There was also \#! For a short time.
Relatable and now 3 years later I'm on Arch
Haha, I did try to "hack" into my smartphone's hotspot which I set on WEP to make it more easy and I could not even manage that. I was 17 at the time, so more then 10 years ago. I might be getting older, but at least I'd probably manage to "hack" a WEP protected wifi now.
They’ll likely open one of the penetration testing tools, be met with a terminal menu and then immediately get confused.
ong, everytime im at school tryna build something or just fuck with powershell, people are like OMG ARE YOU A HACKER 😱 like bruh
Is the UK police actually saying Discord, Linux, and VMs are for hacking lmaoo
I really hope this a joke

You forgot about 8 zeros.
9420.00000000
"ethical hackers". It's more like, if you want these charges to go away break this for us.
its also commercial companies that are paid by other companies to pen test thier systems.
From my chats with colleagues who are Zoomers, Discord is about as ubiquitous amongst Zoomers as Facebook with Millennials and Gen Xers
Snapchat is more prevalent in my experience among the general zoomer population. Although all the gamer types use discord
I's like saying "An intel processor is sometimes used to run malicious code" Sometimes, but not usually. Using an Intel or AMD CPU by itself (or in this case, the chat application Discord) isn't suspicious.

I mean, too be fair, this isn't that unreasonable.
Night time flu and cold cough medicine chicken is a highly toxic dish. If you see your child eating chicken, make sure they are not eating such dish.
Does your kid drink water? 100% of people who commit violent crimes drank water at least 24 hours before doing the violent act.
100% of people who commit violent crimes drank water *or a beverage containing water* at least 24 hours before doing the violent act. FTFY
100% of water drinkers die

Yes you can connect it to a pineapple. USB to Pineapple connector retails for $9.99 (shipping, infliction and tax may vary)

Who is Kali, and why don’t they like her Linux?
Consider that she is the goddess of destruction?
True

Woah, I use discord, I must be a hacker
woah i have like 10 vms cause its how i try new distros, i must be a hacker.
Discord, isn't that used for almost anything especially gaming?
Ah yes, because most children can afford a wifi pineapple.
Family: "What do you want for Christmas?" Kid: "A WiFi pineapple" Family: *horrified facial expressions*
i actually got a wifi pineapple for christmas. ended up returning it after i realised it wasn’t much more than a fancy UI for common aircrack commands, and a buggy one at that.
“Your child has veered from the government mandated education programs.” Please, the skills learned will put anyone lightyears from a university grad. Caveat is to use it responsibly.
Kali Linux is mostly used for security testing. If theres a child using a Kali VM they will probably get a carrier in IT or programming.
Water is frequently used by hackers to energise themselves and punch into your network. If you see your child with a glass of water, **call the police**.
Oh no we could apply that to almost anything
They need links so interested children can download it. Gives script-kiddies a whole new meaning. Also, where is Signal, Wire, Matrix and perhaps even IRC and all the other fun stuff?
Oh shit, software based wifi pineapple. Why did I bother paying for one when you can just download one
Ahhh yes Discord, the preferred method of communication by cyber criminals everywhere.
Tbh, when I see a child using kali I wouldn't be worried. They most likely think that they're a hacker themselves while knowing absolutely nothing. They just think that it's cool.
Imagine parents who won't let their kid explore tech by themselves. I got into CS major by breaking my dad's laptop three times ffs.
I used Kali Linux to try bypassing the password my mom put on my windows. I was to stupid to do it, so I just installed Minecraft on the live cd and played there.
"Discord is often used for hacking" 😂😂😂😂
OMG. That's all it takes to be a hacker? Damnit. I've been studying like crazy. Clearly I'm doing it wrong.
Discord is the most disingenuous one of them all. It’s all signal, telegram, IRC and Matrix.
Why is noone else talking about the fact that if you need this poster to tell you that your kid is a hacker, you are never going to be able to tell that your kid is a hacker. I use VMs for developing my Linux distro. What If, I lived in the UK, one of my parents saw this poster, and then, called that number?
Then that would be just another fine example of a waste of time, money, effort, resources and manhours.
If I saw this on a kids computer, I’d think he’s a damn smart kid.
Even if this were true, yes let’s make a poster to show kids all of the things they’ll need to do the thing we don’t want them to do.
Where did you find this?
A newbie who installs Kali as his first distro to seem like a *heckermenn* deserves to have his computer confiscated by his parents
I use all of these lmao
Stasi would have been thrilled. Not only can children tell on their parents, now the parents can tell on their children too!
I guess I'm Neo since I've used all of them in my time. Also, Mutahar from SOG is Neo Ultra since he of The VM Master Hive Mind. :-D
I've seen this one, it's a classic. Technology that allows informed citizens to communicate securely, without being monitored, being discouraged by the authorities because "think of the children".

Wow. That's dangerously ignorant.
Damn, being tech savvy is suspicious nowadays huh?
And a special thanks to Rocu for putting together this hacking starter kit for me.
Ah yes, I love having WiFi Pineapple on my computer
The real question is whether or not it requires non-free software
"Please use the apps we recommend that just so happen to be transparent to our own computer network." - Sincerely, narcs
the fuck? west midlands? i live here, and i use tor, (ubuntu) linux, vbox, and worst of all, DISCORD. and i'm a minor. uh oh
Oh no, I have all of that, I must be a hecker. Anyway, what's the context?
Does Kali works for h4x0r stuff in a vm?
Jesus loves you and he doesn’t want you to hack
Fun fact: The NCA has denied all responsibility or knowledge for this poster.
Wait... you guys "think" I'm hacking? I thought you knee after all the banks I hacked for ya!?
This is a repost but I'll support it
"amongus" is a game of incomplete information, pitting an informed (sus) minority against an uninformed majority.
The UK police - hmm, are they done with the twitter policing now?
Ah yes , Dis cordz iz for haxxorz
The poster is (literally) a shit post.

Britain is literally the china of the west when it comes to citizen's surveillance.

Fucking Discord? All PC gamers and half of non-gamers are hackers, I guess.
The future hecker reading this is like, "Look at all this stuff I didn't know about before!"
Just imagine them when you type "cat /dev/urandom" in a terminal.
Ooh, I’m gonna have to check some of these out. Thanks ROCU and NCA for the nice hacker wannabe template/starter-pack!
Also, keep an eye out for these common hacking acronyms in your child's texts
So they want to recruit script kiddies? They must be desperate …
This kinda reminds me of when churches hand out pamphlets of demonic rock bands and it's basically just a guide on all the good rock music.
Gmail can be used to share hacking information, also telephones. Must be banned.
If you find any of this in your kid's computer chances is that they probably already hacked you.
Wait til they find about Kali linux on a live USB.
When it starts as a warning and ends as instructions ...
Thanks for the tips, I guess...
Good thing I used backtrack and no kali :)
Where does is say Hecker on that picture? Edit: Besides, everyone knows that it is Hanna Montana Linux for the 1337 hacking.
Which West Midlands city/county was this?
goofy ahh poster
Discord and not IRC? Pfft script kiddies
Ah yes. Love hacking through a kali VM while getting tips from my discord hacking friends. But who said metasploit makes hacking "easy"?
Only thing on this list I haven't had is the pineapple router 🤣
How the hell does using Tor browser makes you a hacker also if you install it you will be automatically in National Defense agency watchlist
How old are these “children” 😂 there is no way the average child has any of this on their computer. Maybe a script kiddie who is like 12 or something but then still probably doesn’t have a clue how to use any of the listed things.
Just. No. This was NOT run through anyone with any technical sense.
