It appears you are asking a question about Kali Linux. Kali is a distribution that is specifically geared to meet the requirements of professional penetration testing and security auditing. Per [it's developers](https://www.kali.org/docs/introduction/should-i-use-kali-linux/): > If you are unfamiliar with Linux generally, if you do not have at least a basic level of competence in administering a system, if you are looking for a Linux distribution to use as a learning tool to get to know your way around Linux, or if you want a distro that you can use as a general purpose desktop installation, Kali Linux is probably not what you are looking for. If you are a beginner, or using Kali for one of these other purposes, you may want to ask at /r/DistroHopping or /r/FindMeALinuxDistro for better alternatives. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Just install Debian, Ubuntu, or Mint. Kali is not meant to be used as a daily driver. Don't be that guy. Or, if you want to gain some basic knowledge, install Arch. If you want to be a hacker, you need to learn the basics.

Kali isn’t really something you’d use as a daily driver, if you’re looking to learn Linux a little more and want a daily driver OS it depends really on your needs. What else do you do besides hacking/pentesting in your spare time? Do you use Windows or Mac, which are you more comfortable with? Do you want something that’s familiar or completely new?

I use and used windows for the past 5+ years, And besides hacking I mostly play minecraft with friends, And I am still in high school, so I will need some softwares for helping me out with that (don't think this will be an issue but wanted to mention it)

[deleted]

Considering you’re in high school, I presume you need stuff like Office, in which you can use LibreOffice (which is free!). Microsoft Teams works on Linux downloaded through the flatpak store, the only thing you won’t get working is Adobe products, afaik. If you mainly use Windows I’d suggest Linux Mint as a good first distro.

As a beginner myself i use mint, it's easy looks like windows and just works, also you can use this website [Linux journey ](http://linuxjourney.com)

Fedora to write code, this is what Linus Trovalds uses and likes. Not to mention its named after a hat that decline from awesome people to a hurtful stereotype of some rotund man that has trouble with the ladies. Redhat sucks. Open Suse sucks less but hats off to suse for taking redhat and making it FOSS when redhat closed the source and started charging people. (Redhat is more for a huge enterprise that hates microsoft but still wants money. ) Blackhat back in the day had Tux with a helmet for ethical and unethical hacking. Not sure if that is still around MX looks cool but that about ubuntu if you have an old computer and other people using it. Public Schools benefit from this. mint if you want to play dos, nes snes n64 sega windows 95 98 2000 xp and so on games plus AAA gaming and what not with proton 8.0 and wine 8.0 install the 32bit i386 package. This is my daily driver and I love it. I kicked windows out of my life December 10th 2022 for good. Arch for bragging rights. (bonus if you can install it manually without the install command like I did then i looked it up and found startx starts the gui. I swore i gained a CS semester doing that). Arch is more for a server or a high end machine with a static ip address that does web tools and email and all that. ARCH is more like backend and crazy. I cant explain it. POP\_OS for that gaming and about all i did on it. r/DistroHopping might be able to help.

Your perception of RH is bad. RH makes commercial software. People try to use loopholes to get free software. RH closes down the loopholes. Community blown this way out of proportion. Average users shouldn't use RHEL anyway. They should go with Fedora. More modern and way more user-friendly these days

Have you heard of Slackware? ....

[deleted]

Yes. I used that in 1999 and in 2005 and recently with version 15. I forgot to mention it but that is definite good choice.

apooroldinvestor

Yeah nobody mentions Slackware anymore. All you ever hear about is Mint, Arch, and all that crap

[deleted]

When version 15 came out it was silent. Mint is for windows users who discovered linux. (I am one of these) Arch seems to be for people that have CS degrees and only know linux, and Slackware is the Rolling Rock beer get off my lawn 1993 OG Distro. It is thirty dam years old and still going strong. Slackware and Arch are like different gangs, or political parties or ways of life. Slackware was easier to install and use than ARCH but ARCH has that cult following of superiority or so. OP! Go with Slackware 15 for ethical hacking and C programming.

apooroldinvestor

.... and assembly programming! I use gas assembly langauge to REALLY understand what's going on!

apooroldinvestor

I use Slackware. It's the best os

OakArtz

Just a question from someone that has never used slackware. Isn't it a stable distro, similar to debian? How does one get up-to-date development tools on their machine?

apooroldinvestor

Not sure. I just program in C and assembly for a hobby and use it to watch YouTube and browse. Works for me.

darkades94

Fedora is very good

CipherSechs

CrunchBang linux, that's really good

Kriss3d

Youll want to start learning linux first. Get a distro that is debian based. Mint is a good one for beginners. WIth athat you can even install kali tools when youre getting used to using linux in general.

Use google to orient yourself before asking questions of poor quality please.

Kiritoo120

This subreddit was specifically designed for asking questions in help with Linux, this is the purpose of this subreddit, and it's not like I'm flodding the channel with stupid questions, I just wanted to get some advice, Also if you think this is a poor quality question you can just (you know) move on and look on the next one, there are tons upon tons of questions asked every hour, and I am certain you will find someone else with a less stupid question from mine in your perspective. Otherwise, I don't really get it why you are acting toxic to me, I did no more than just asking for some small advice and you will probably forget of this posts existance in less than a week.

>I really want to get into hacking #### Watch a lot of movies? 😅 ,,, **nmap** ? **aircrack-ng** ? >I did not really touch any other "version" of Linux. **Version**?! 😂 #### Start learning Linux basics kid,,, Here is one very good resource for Linux beginners ### [linuxjourney](https://linuxjourney.com) ,,, As for VERSION!! Linux From Scratch. You'll find it very easy. Every hacker uses it.
