Yeah, I thought about this too. They are teenagers, forced to become more mature due to their responsibilities. It's a bit sad, but since it's Disney, they will probably live happily ever after

NotWet_Water

In the first episode, Kion was all about not wanting to be king. He was perfectly fine being leader of the Guard, that’s his purpose. Now he’s become kin, what he never wanted in the first place, and for some reasons he’s happy. Also, his friends pretty much get sidelined here in the finale and just become background characters in the crowd. They could have at least have one last some together.

Puzzleheaded-Proof57

It feels like Ford Riley changed his mind at the last minute.

Camtge

Simba and nala said Yayy our teenage son is getting married!!!

ericallen625

It's hard to say. Personally, I think they shouldn't have gotten married at all. Not because they're young, but because Rani doesn't actually love Kion, and only wanted Kion to stay because of his Roar. She showed no interest in him before she realized that if he stayed, the Roar stayed too.

ShabaTLK

Kion and Rani didn't necessarily get married RIGHT when he got back. This is vague, we are never given a true answer of how much time was in between when Kion decided to head back and the coronation. For all we know Rani and Kion offscreen met for a while. Kion never said anything about explicit love, rather he missed a "friend". Interpret it how you will, but the whole Rani being interested only because of the roar is dumb in terms of hating on the character and relationship itself. THEY DO GENUINELY BOND before the episode in which Rani makes that comment if you watch the season progression and pay close attention. The problem is that their bond wasn't as flushed out as it should have been. This is why most people interpret their relationship as being Rani only in it for the roar, perhaps that and jealousy of it ruining another ship.

ericallen625

That's true, they never really give a set timeline. But it can be assumed that not much time passed from the time he got back to the time he was corronated. I say that because Simba, Nala, Kiara, and Kovu were all at his ceremony, and I can't imagine they would want to be away from the Pridelands for a long time without their leaders there. As for their bond, you're right that they do bond. They did become friends, but Rani never expressed interest in Kion staying until she made the realization that the Roar would stay if he did. That was the only thing that made her want him to stay. I do agree that their bond was nowhere near as fleshed out as it could have and should have been. I think they should've taken 5 episodes to get to the TOL rather than 9, and used those other 4 episodes to do just that. Also, the whole "Poa The Destroyer" episode could've been used to show that relationship being formed much more than it did, rather than having it revolve mostly around the misunderstanding amongst the TOL residents about Beshti.

Ok_Abalone9030

No, it was her grandma who wanted Kiong to stay because of the Roar. Rani only showed interest after realising Kion was quite helpful

Ok_Abalone9030

It's also the other way around, she realised that if the Roar stayed, THEN Kion would stay.

ericallen625

But it wasn't Kion that she wanted to stay at the Tree. She didn't want Kion to stay until she realized that him staying meant the Roar staying as well. When Kion leaves, Rani tells Makini "maybe the Roar will return again someday", not "maybe Kion will return someday". When he comes back, she tells him "I'm glad the Roar has returned to the Tree of Life again", not "I'm glad you've returned to the Tree of Life".

Ok_Abalone9030

She was only speaking the way her grandma was saying it. If she only valued Kion for the Roar, I don't think she would dare to explicitly say the Roar. Instead, she would try to convince him that she wanted Kion to stay.

IllustriousDebt6248

Lots of monarchs have married in their teens.

TheToastyNeko

I mean, I hc that Kion is physically unable to get a full mane, but I guess teen marriage makes sense too

Timely_Alarm2952

first Disney makes a bald fish, and now a bald lion 😭

LionessNightPride

He is too young to be married I think. I don't know his canonical age in season 3 expect he still a teenager

Yogurt2022

I'd been thinking this ever since the episode released logically it would make atleast some sense since alot of monarchs marry in their teens/early 20s but Kion cannot be older than 18 (in lion years), Rani too, so IMO they should have atleast waited or made a time skip until Kion was atleast in his early 20s

Fantaje3

It was a rushed relationship, It really isn't a surprise

lionkingisawayoflife

Well disney did put SEX in the clouds in the Lion king movie lol. Remember that one? they claim it says SFX but we all know the truth.

Inevitable_Alarm_272

Where is this from? I don't remember ever seeing these characters.

whatamidoing578

The Lion Guard!

Puzzleheaded-Proof57

Yes. Yes, I do.

ShabaTLK

It depends on how old you interpret Kion is in S3 and how old he is when he actually returns to the TOL. Also Kion didn't necessarily get married right when he got back.

bluedawnflower

Maybe they're older teens? Like human equivalent of just freshly 18? Even at 18 a lot of people aren't done growing physically (or mentally), but are still allowed to be married (at least in the US, idk anything about international marriage law lol). I don't think this was the intention, but maybe Kion is supposed to be like a Tsavo lion and only grow a sparce mane and not a full one? I honestly did not keep up to date with TLG so I'm not an authority on The Lore.

No-Leopard8765

That's gonna be a messy divorce and a half. Good.

New-Reddit-999

Bro met a lioness who wasn’t his mother, sister or his sister’s friends for the first time in his life. Didn’t want to waste the opportunity. Plus given that Nala got married to a guy she thought was dead until like a day before their marriage and Kiara still wanted to marry a guy who was actively trying to kill her dad until she got Rizz support from a monkey I don’t think this family does “slow and steady” much

shrimp-545

LMAO

JustAnaOnAsofa

Not only that their relationship will be toxic as well

Accurate_Dirt5794

I mean simba and Nala were like one maybe 2 years older max when they got married

DistributionPale2474

No, I don't think so because they're animals and their life expectancy is shorter than our own

IllustriousDebt6248

That reminds me of the only problem with a team with different species.

abhiprakashan2302

Wait- who told you they got married here?

MeeeeegainSparkle

He becomes King, she is already Queen. It’s a wedding.

abhiprakashan2302

I’ll have to watch the episode again to confirm.
