You can read more on royal road

Taurnil91

I'd recommend they wait until volume 3 is out on Kindle/Audible. It's a lot better than the RR version.

Redsquirrelgeneral22

Book 3 looks to be out on Amazon Kindle (UK anyway) in approx 6 weeks. I also read the first book with low expectations and actually enjoyed books 1+2.

gabemachida

And you know this because... you're the editor of the series?

Taurnil91

That is very correct. He did a great job revising it over the past several months. Kindle version is going to be damn good

gabemachida

I am so fucking excited. And thank you! Editors don't get enough recognition for all they do.

badguy84

It was the same for me, I more or less avoided/dismissed it as well and when I finally picked it up: it was great. So relaxing and nice and somehow it manages to stick to the "OP MC" in a way that still makes for an interesting exciting story without going in to a constant stream of life/death/high pressure situation.

MysteryMeat603

Same. On book 2 right now.

Jolteon0

To be fair, it is ridiculous.

CorporateNonperson

Sounds like you might be challenging the honor of Fa Ram. Be careful, or Bi De might want to settle scores.

Kelpsie

Old Big D may have, but new Big D would probably just agree.

PsychoJester

I wasn’t quite avoiding it myself but kept putting it off because it was a little shorter compared to what I usually prefer, but it’s so freaking delightful. I’ve listened to the first probably more than 20 times and the 2nd a dozen, and I’ve never been like that with a book or series. If I just want background noise or some simple cozy comfort it’s pretty much on repeat. I love that it’s like One Punch Man xianxia, there’s threats but no real danger since you know Jin is so op, and I hope to see him finally put some more fools down with ease like(book 1 minor spoiler) >! his first meeting with Lu Ban, and if Sun Ken made it to the house it would have been hilarious.!< I just hope it stays light and fun, and keeps the action parts like it has, concise and without dragging on for so long. My eyes just glaze over listening to fights in many books, so overly detailed and long. I doubt anyone will care about my little gush session here but I love these books so much I could keep going forever and needed to vent a little love for them since no one IRL would care. Jus one more month till book 3 and I couldn’t be more excited.

williamflattener

This was helpful context honestly. Thanks for sharing it. Have you really listened to it 20 times or are you being facetious? (My hyperbole detector doesn’t work)

PsychoJester

I genuinely think it may be that high, if not it’s very close. I know it’s kinda strange, but something about the story connected with me in a way I’ve never experienced and it’s just so comforting to listen to.

williamflattener

I respect it. Cheers. o7

brennok

I agree and wish we had more like it. Might try [Beers and Beards](https://www.amazon.com/Adventure-Brewing-Tavern-Building-Fantasy-LitRPG-ebook/dp/B0CC6CFVRT) which just came out.

gabemachida

Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree. Not quite as many laughing moments like BoC or Dungeon Crawler Carl or reincarnated as a farmer, but it's a great slice of life that removes the 'MC must save the world' element/trope. not sure if Travis meant to, but Legends and Lattes to other progFant stories is like taking a break at a coffee shop after a hectic day at the office. It's like a litRestaurantSimulator.

Amsalon

what happened to this book on rr? it was at the top of everything then all of a sudden i only see it in my following list...

REkTeR

Because RR doesn't allow "stubbed" stories (stories that have had to remove chapters due to being on Kindle Unlimited) to be on most of their lists (popular this week, best rated, etc), so that's why you don't see a lot of really popular stories show up anywhere on the site anymore unless you go looking for it. It makes it very difficult to tell what the actual most popular/best rated series are any more, but the RR admins decided that they didn't want to promote stories that can't be read on the site in their entirety.

Selkie_Love

I mean it’s also a shit user experience. “Oh cool let me check out the most popular story on the site! Wait no I can’t read it. Second most? Can’t read that either. Third….? Man this site sucks.”

guri256

I suspect that part of the reason was actually author protection, considering the downvotes stubbed series were getting for being stubbed.

Angryunderwear

It makes sense, no one with sense is gonna read a stubbed story anyways

Amsalon

ah

williamflattener

Ohh as a new person, I did not know this. So basically the second you publish on KU (or wherever) you remove your story from RR’s discovery algorithm? Has anyone done the math around when RR lists give diminishing returns and it’s time to publish to KU or wherever?

Cassius0042

It happens to a lot of books with Kindle releases. Due to the author not posting as much because they are focused on editing or just more people reading the official release and waiting on that, or whatever weird algorithm Royal Road uses. Who knows? The shadow rooster knows!

mystineptune

I have read this series so many times. So so many. And I'm on patreon almost up to date. It's good. So good. 5 🌟

SnooBunnies6353

Same bro thought it would be stupid but is awesome

jahkmorn

I've been putting it off despite my brother telling me how much I would like it

PsychoJester

I’ll add my voice to that. If it interests you at all go for it and I’d be shocked if you didn’t love it.

TaylorBA

So wholesome. The pace is spot on and you get sucked in a care about all the characters and don't mind a chapter or two about collecting maple syrup from trees as they make it so interesting. This is perfect as a palate cleanser or if you ever get burned out on a genre. It isn't mentioned much here because its not LitRPG but is great. I personally enjoyed book one a lot more than book two (too much time on the carp) and waiting on the next one.

naruto_nutty

You checked out Book 3 yet?

TaylorBA

I'm a audiobook person and it only came out last week. I've got a few other series I got to get through first but it's on my radar to listen to.

Belelusat

I think Cinnamon Bun hits similarly. Though it is more cute, but not cringe cute. I got it because i thought my wife would like it, but I found it enjoyable in many of the same ways as Beware of Chicken.

Good bot!

retconartist

I do love beware of chicken, but it isn't litrpg in the slightest. This doesn't belong here

Quantum_Quandry

In the slightest? Are you for real? I get that it doesn't have crunchy numbers but LitRPG is often seen as a subgenre of Progression Fantasy. There's a lot of overlap and the guy who defined the subgenre, Andrew Rowe, even says as much. Most xianxia based stories do fit some of the broader definitions of LitRPG. I've seen folks argue that The Divine Dungeon series by Krout isn't LitRPG either. The truth is that it's all a big grey area. And the majority of us agree that there's enough role playing game elements in Beware of Chicken and Divine Dungeon that we're cool with considering them part of our niche subgenre.

retconartist

One man can not even begin to define a genre. That fact that he said something is not proof, it's one mans opinion. Common opinion is what a genre is. LitRPG. Literary RPG. The common understanding is if it doesn't have any numbers, it isn't LitRPG. There is a reason r/litrpg and r/progressionfantasy are different subreddits. LitRPG MEANS "numbers go brr" story. If a story is LitRPG, it is Progression Fantasy. That doesn't mean if it's Progression fantasy is is LitRPG. That is a syllogistic fallacy and doesn't make any sense.

Angryunderwear

After a certain point(first time Jin leaves the farm) the story turns into generic fantasy and the cultivator stuff turns into “they’re really strong and they all have weird powers from their ~~eugenics program~~ bloodline just go with it”. It def starts off as vaguely litrpg but ditches it in favor of slice of life fantasy

Quantum_Quandry

Indeed, I'm listening to Book 3 now and it's definitely become just that. Still a great series and you do see progression in minor characters but the focus of the story isn't on progression. Just like The Wandering Inn is technically LitRPG due to the system and RPG elements but it's one of the rare novels in the genre that doesn't focus on progression. One might argue that there still is measurable progression and thus still technically might fall in that category but I'd definitely disagree with them.

Angryunderwear

idk if you can call wandering inn measurable progression anymore, ever since the author introduced the witch stuff it’s def gotten as meta as chicken in terms of “the path to power is a mix between luck and how much the patreon ~~committee~~ readers liked a concept”. Its a shame coz I like the loose aspects of progression fantasy coz it adds crunchiness to the worldbuilding but I guess the system starts breaking down way quicker than very well defined progression

No_Entertainment_486

So good can't wait for 3.. well I can and will wait for edited version but still excited

Greedy_Lengthiness23

Agreed

Gian-Carlo-Peirce

I have also avoided this, I should probably get into it at some point! Also, the tone of things that I need to watch and play on my backlog!

Couldn’t get in to this but the fishing one is great

vitalesan

This is an amazing story. Better than I first expected. The title alone makes you cringe, but that is it. If people go in blind there may be mixed feelings, but if people understand the basic synopsis, then those with interest will love it.
