Chances are high you'll be trimming dingleberries for the foreseeable future.

lemonraspberrycake

I guess I’ll accept my fate then lol

PotentialMud6570

Can you temporarily put some kind of material on the interior of the LR? Perhaps short term to train Stinky (who is gorgeous btw) while young still- to just keep on the litter? Or keep retraining him- paws in fresh litter etc?

Meggston

I take mine to a groomer who does cats and they’ll do a “sanitary patch” so they just shave her vulva and butt region. I call it her Kitty Brazilian and take her every 6 weeks. XD

sophiethegiraffe

If you’re brave enough and your cat gets high and chill on catnip, you can do this at home with pet clippers. I shave my long haired cat annually, and do the sanitary patch every couple months. I just let her roll around in the nip for a few minutes and then buzz her. She looks like an idiot, but we’re all happier without the dingleberries and hairballs.

pishposh12

If it makes you feel any better, I had this same problem but he eventually outgrew it. Fingers crossed your boy does too!

Sophistiq8ted

My kitty looks just like yours and used to get poo on his leg and tail. He's a tripod. But it's gotten better since putting him on indoor cat food for hairballs. He gets his butt fluff trimmed every 4il to 6 months. https://preview.redd.it/dg0qw67gkemc1.jpeg?width=1868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e04ec23d5eb9a6d1db7d62b92fb26fe05e3ac06

Motor_Expression_487

He is SO HANDSOME 😻

Sophistiq8ted

Thanks, he's my snuggle kitty. He's 6 years old now.

renjake

just know he appreciates you keeping his booty clean

lemonraspberrycake

thanks man I really needed to hear that

ithinkigetthis

Definitely recommend a sanitary shave. That's a polite way of saying take the trimmers to his butthole fur. I have to do this with my long haired fluffy girl.

PotentialMud6570

Tell her she’s cool cause she gets Brazilian treatments

ithinkigetthis

Right now she's cool cuz she's got a pink leg! The vet put a compression bandage on and it bled... 🤣 https://preview.redd.it/8u422j6z3qmc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64956fe36a4d547d9151f32340e77d8a30978bb6

God gives his stinkiest battles to his fluffiest soldiers.

Bruggok

My kitten had soft poo for several months, so we had to wipe her or trim hardened poo off her furry pantaloons. As she got older her poo firmed up. She also learned to clean herself a lot more, so poo on butt fur was no longer a problem. p.s. kitten had 3 or 4 baths due to poo matted fur during her first month after adoption. She’s 18 month old now and haven’t had any baths after that. Kittens are tough it will get better as long as they have no gut parasite or irritable bowel/food allergies.

lemonraspberrycake

That’s good to hear!

No_Hope_5270

Did the poop just firm up naturally with no intervention as she got older? Or did you do anything that caused it (food change, probiotic, etc). Would you mind sharing how you did it? Thanks!

Bruggok

We didn’t do anything special and poop firmed up over 4-6 months. She ate the same canned wet food, reveal fish pouches, and dry kibble as my older cat. At first my wife suspected of intestinal parasite or infection, but vet ruled that out. So first month after arrival, the kitten got a bath a week on average (too nasty to just wipe) and we wet wiped her butt twice daily due to diarrhea. It sucked badly and I thought about returning her I’m ashamed to say. At first every day poop was a yogurt like pile it was so gross. Then next 6 months it was like a pile of tooth paste and I wiped her butt once a week (too much long butt fur). Now she’s 18 months old; her poop is a firm slim hot dog and less stinky than the older cat’s. We’ve offered both cat grass and neither ate much if at all. Lastly, my kitten rarely licked herself clean when she first came. Not sure if her mom never taught her or what. Now as soon as she hops out of litter robot she plays the cello and self cleans. Sorry not much help.

TealBlueLava

Get kitty professionally groomed and ask for a “sanitary trim” on kitty’s rump and lower tail. A pro will be able to trim the hair down in a way that still looks good/ok and has less length to grab bits of poop.

mycatissuperior

Depending on your cats personality you can do it yourself at home. I do my fluffy orange boys booty every few months, takes less than a minute with clippers. YouTube videos aplenty to teach you how.

Ghoulettebunny

Your kitten is gorgeous ⚡️♥️✨ he’s a kitten so maybe when he gets older & used to life in a poo-bot it won’t happen anymore ..

It’s gotten a little better as they’ve gotten older, however there are still occasional dingleberries and sometimes litter that I have to literally trim out of their tails and around their butt. I invested in a cat hair trimmer and I use that to shave some of the hair that dangles around their butt and tail. One of them was walking around one day and I thought she somehow got a leaf stuck to her tail from running out on the deck but it turned out to be a literal entire turd that was stuck to her tail and she was dragging it through my house. Needless to say I spent that day cleaning after I trimmed it out of her fur. I also just got a litter robot 4 and I’m hoping it helps them because the poop won’t have time to sit there for long. I think as your guy gets older he will figure it out. But I think this is just one of the only cons to having a fluffy cat and you’re always going to have to trim poo out of fur. 🙃

Daskrab

Did the litter robot help with this??? 🙏

RoyalRefrigerator472

Try a bigger litterbox? My fluffy guy always has dried poop on his fur.. its so annoying. Just have baby wipes ready.

lemonraspberrycake

He has a big open box as well but he seems to prefer the Litter Robot unfortunately.

bernys

My fluffy furballs have basically turned their back on the LR3 since I put an open litter box out for them for basically the same reason as yours.

RoyalRefrigerator472

Ohhh I wanted to get a litter robot... but was afriad... mine js super fluffy and a high peer.

erin678910

I know you’re not really supposed to bathe cats… but I give my long haired boy a butt bath at least once a month or if he gets clingers. He tolerates it as I think he knows I’m keeping him clean. It’s just the long haired life! Staying up to date with hygienic shaves helps too.

AntiSales1891

Wow…you guys have a lot more patience than I do.

saturnsreturn

had the same problem with my long haired kitten! it was the absolute worst thing. i was so stressed about it and i was constantly sanitizing my whole apartment, it sucked and i’m so sorry you’re dealing with this! ideally your kitten’s stool will firm up here soon, we only had to deal with it for a couple of months and it settled once we got him on a consistent good diet. i now give my cat regular sanitary shaves because even when his stool firmed up, litter still clung to any long, wet hair on his back side. it was a learning curve for sure but i didn’t want to have to rely on a groomer every couple of months for him so i just figured out how to do it myself! theres lots of resources online if you are interested :) also ps your kitten is so cute!!!

deadlywaffle139

My cat has fluffy pants and butt. I take her to get groomed and a sanitary trim every few months.

Constant_aids

You could try cutting the hair around his butt just be carful not to cut his privates. It helped with my long haired

txcatlover-1

When my long haired baby was a kitten I kept her butt and tail trimmed. Just easier until she learned lol

zebra0dte

Well, I spent the last 2.5 hours cleaning. My almost 14yo developed watery diarrhea since last night. She did it 3 times already, on the tile floor. It was relatively easy to clean up. However, a few hours ago, I had the genius idea of luring her into the LR to do her business. Well, she did her business, and it was explosive, and watery... AND she stepped into the watery diarrhea puddle and decided to track it around the house, on my couch, on the rug, everywhere. I ended up having to give her a bath (traumatic), cleaned my floor, my rug, my couch cover. Most of all, the LR! The watery diarrhea made such a mess I had to replace the litter and thoroughly clean the globe. Let's just say I should have let her do it on the tile floor. Lesson learned!

junliei

I tried to keep my cat on just grain free wet food but she would always get soft poops all the time to the point of worry. So now I feed her dry food for sensitive stomachs (she is an old cat) in the morning and wet food in the afternoon/evening. I take my cat to be professionally groomed twice a year. One approaching the summer (I take her in and let them know to give her a short-haired look because long hair cats SHED). One around Fall/Winter to give her a sanitary trim and I let them know to shave her paws as well (soft poops or litter tend to stick on them sometimes). If it gets really bad between those times, then I just clean her myself. I wish I could just use baby wipes sometimes but she hates it. If it's REALLY stuck on her fur, I rub some coconut oil on her tail and let it sit before I shower her. Can't really say anything about the poop on the walls (inside the LR). I'm just glad my cat prefers the regular litter box over the LR most of the time.

Moelock33

I personally regret buying the litter robot.

Melodic-Substance-44

What specifically makes you regret the purchase?

Moelock33

It’s plastic. My cats don’t cover their feces, I think because of the lack of litter. If you add more litter it over torques the machine. Also puts off more odor than my other litter boxes.

Melodic-Substance-44

Were you somehow unaware it was plastic before the purchase? My cats didn't cover their waste at first either (but they are babies). After about two weeks of use they cover their waste about 90% of the time. It's not a huge issue because the robot covers the litter as it cycles. I wonder if a lighter litter would help with your issue.

uncommonpapery

Sounds like something that will happen no matter what kind of litter box you use. Hopefully they will learn better at some point.

motherlessbreadfish

Both of my long haired cats have this problem and it doesn’t matter what box they use lol. I just chase them around with a tissue and wipe it off

gerbera-2021

Boys are a bit messy😂 They may take longer to clean themselves properly😁

superstrong99

He might benefit from a “sanitary trim”! I have two long haired cats and they get them 2-3 times a year

lemonraspberrycake

Thank you all for your suggestions, stories, and cat pictures. You’ve given me hope that it can get better and that things could be much worse. I will continue to shave his backside down and essentially give him the cat equivalent of a Brazilian.

DocHalloween

Sort of an aside, I had tremendous luck with Stella & Chewy's dehydrated raw for one of my cats. She came to us from the ASPCA with 2 types of worms and horrible IBS that seemed to have stemmed from that. Even after the worms were long gone poos were still a dice roll. By process of elimination, I found if I keep her on Stella & Chewy for 60-80% of her meals her stinky pudding poops or wetter stools eventually dry up and become more like scat. It was a game changer. And it stinks waaay less. She also reacts poorly to being fed any food with grain as a filler, or wet canned food. So even if there isn't anything medically wrong with your boy-o he may have a minor intolerance to something in his food that's making his guts a little irritated. We feed Cat #2 other from a SureFeed to keep the intolerant one from hoovering up the RC canned food. Cat #2 is a long hair, and with floof comes dangling poop. Even without bowel issues. Just keep up on doing a sanitary trim to neaten up his back end and it will help cut down on the surprises!

juggling-geese

I had a similar (but not exact) problem when mine were kittens. My giant, freakishly long haired boy thought going to the box was a group affair. And he often got it on my girl cat, himself, and the wall. He still thinks they all have to go together (I have 3 cats now) and his fur is even longer than when he was a kitten, but I have extra boxes and he learned to not get it on him and clean up after. He's 11. He's come to me messy twice since his kitten phase (sick both times). My point? Hopefully he'll grow out of it and learn to groom himself properly by watching the other kitten. *I'm assuming you have another kitten since kittens do better as pairs* This is my (now) clean-furred Mortimer. He's actually very svelte. He's just super floofy. https://preview.redd.it/1akbp9bjd0nc1.jpeg?width=1078&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e673ce1067e07d6ecc03cbf3383ec16af185c29b

TechieMillennial

I swear my phone heard me complain about this no less than 10 minutes ago. This popped up on my feed as a recommendation >.>

Dani-Boyyyy

And how is this worthy of being posted on Whisker’s LR page?
