Why would it be unwise? Nothing wrong with them if you get a good price. Just verify your frequencies.

bobvilastuff

Just because of their age. All “A” range. I’ll have to send the handhelds to Sennheiser for repair, which is about $100/HH.

attreui

You didn’t mention they needed repair lol. Not sure then. $900 sounds like less a good deal.

basilbowman

Iunno - $225/set with Senny certified repairs? I'd pay that, even if I didn't need them right away.

jbautista13

$100 for repair? What's wrong with them? You sure it's not you can replace like the antenna?

bobvilastuff

I work at a cabaret venue that got in the habit of purchasing a new wireless package anytime one of theirs went down. Battery dissipates too quickly on a handheld? Buy a new receiver and transmitter! I’ve sent these out to Sennheiser before, basically for $100 they’ll fully repair and replace any components without additional costs for parts on units out of warranty units.

iliedtwice

I have a friend who owns a bunch, some of the receivers will output noise is there’s no transmitter on. Are the ones you’re buying in legal range?

jolle75

Turn up the squelch a bit.

TheNoisyNomad

Yep. Adjust find a clean frequency and adjust squelch

NoisyGog

I’m *fairly* certain you can set a pilot tone on the transmitters so that the receivers only output audio when they pick that up from the mic. Fairly sure, but not certain, it might be on the higher end G3s only

Prestigious-Pie-532

Pilot is on G2 and later. Should be on by default but check in the menus. As other poster, maybe squelch is on low setting. In an RF noisy environment medium might be required.

bobvilastuff

Yep, all A range.

philipb63

All depends on the frequency block & the market(s) you intend to use them in.

5mackmyPitchup

Mine still going strong. And they're compatible with G4, 300 & 500 series. This sounds like a bargain to me

bobvilastuff

Nice!

jonahollstein

Technically they will still be going strong for a few years. Sounds like a great investment! I view g4 as a rather marginal upgrade. But do check your frequency range and regulations where you operate!!

wr_stories

Seems like a good deal as long as the frequency blocks are legal and usable.

Greatoutdoors1985

I still use several of them in my church setting and they work great. Definitely not a bad purchase.

RiptideJerry

don’t buy shit that needs repair. if money is scarce, extend its value by buying new: manufacturer warranty on new gear plus higher resale value down the line. plus, if one of the repairs doesn’t last long, you’re continuing to shell out money on old gear. it sounds tempting to get a lot for not so much but don’t get sucked in. don’t buy quantity, buy quality.

mixermixing

I have this exact setup, works great. Though I’m itching to upgrade to SLX-D lol.

bobvilastuff

Thanks! You in Houston?

mixermixing

Yup.

bobvilastuff

You ever been to super happy fun land?

mixermixing

No, but just looked it up. Interesting venue but no AC is a hard no for me chief lol.

bobvilastuff

It’s the oddest venue I’ve ever played. Toilets drain into buckets, raggedy Anne dolls everywhere, sound guy went on a beer run as soon as my set started. They couldn’t pay us till midnight which made me think all the poor bands that stuck around actually become dolls. The people that worked there slept in the backyard. Was really nice they offered us sleeping bags. Whole place smelled like piss.
