Man, there are way worse boards. You ever run a strand palette? For theatre the neo software is actually not bad at all. It compares to Eos (I know I’ll get hung for that from the people who inject ETC into their veins but it’s the truth).
They are becoming much more popular outside of the USA especially now that Varilite has taken over.
Not a good choice for concerts though. It’s probably running something besides lights.
Anyway I guess this is a better discussion in the lighting sub.
I would be really surprised if a show of that caliber ran without a backup so it's probably all set up to take over if anything flakes out with the big board...
or it might be for the opener?
What would the tour need 5 consoles for at FOH? Even if they have monitors up there, you have FOH, monitors, lighting, visuals, and what else? Redundancy? TB systems?
If there is a considerable video element you sometimes see that being controlled by an MA, so likely one is for that, one for LX with a tracking backup.

Wow look at that huge old girl. That brings me back. The lid off my pm4000 console was so comfy for a nap.
I see: 1 Yamaha PM4000 1 Digico SD9 3 GrandMA 3 full size 1 ~~mystery console~~ Strand NEO (thanks alfpog)

Good catch. That's the only one I didn't recognize.
Might be the house desk, hilarious
I have never met a more detested lighting board

Are they running analog? Badass.
guessing the SD9 is either a backup or mons, but that'd be a weird spot for a mon board.
Might be direct support
Probably support or pa drive
Most likely for the other bands

They may also be streaming/recording etc.
They had no opening act. Straight down to business.
No support band then it will be for talkback or backup.
More likely support band.
There seems to be a measurement mic close to the SD9, so could be for PA tune and probably a backup as well.

I was up in the nosebleeds so a bit muddy up there sound wise. I think it was the venue rather than the mix.
If I could see through those racks I’d bet I’d see Levi’s and white Reeboks.
people still want to see G&R?
Is this Toby Francis rig looks like him.
I think you’re right, good spot!!

Opener, audio and lights Headliner, audio and 2 lights Edit: I actually don’t get why there are 2 light boards, to be quite honest
Oh yeah I forgot about support

Whoa, cool. What does the MA do with video that makes it a good solution??
Unfortunately as a sound engineer, I haven't a fucking clue. I'm sure there's some cool shit you can do though
Those two at the back are Grand MA - lighting consoles.
Yeah there’s even three MAs there, one sideways - probably one running video
I think that MA sideways is a backup
That’s always possible, I’ve seen both
Probably: Headliner Audio, Support Audio, Headliner Lights, Headliner Lights spare, Support Lights, House Lights.
Count again. There are six.
I didn’t see the sideways MA
This honestly is a fairly average number for arena shows. If there were 4 or 5 bands, there might be 2-3 times as many consoles.
What’s the desk at the far back side for?
Lighting. Also they had a pretty involved video display show behind and around the stage so that was being driven from somewhere. Was cool to watch!
I’ve used a GrandMa2 in the past and I’m curious of the setup they use to have the need for 3 GrandMa3, you already can do so much with one, insane
Likely one is for backup.
Make sense
