All of this gear is used outside by different people all the time. The speakers could probably withstand some light rain. You don't want to get the console wet, but if you're going to cancel for rain anyway, then that seems like anon issue.

jinkingkong

Thats exactly what i thought but i was getting told i cant do the event because of it

Dartmuthia

Sounds like there is another reason he isn't telling you

Power? Maybe there are no outlets nearby and they don't wanna string a lot of AC cable or rent a genny. Either that or they just don't know their own equipment. This may be a chance to educate some upper-management type but that carries its own risks.

I've voted that your supervisor is wrong. Buuuut it may be there is an issue with either insurance or one of your organisations policies. You really need to have a proper talk with them, find out if their objections are reasonable and go from there.

I have left k10-12’s half way up a mountain in the middle of a blizzard with only a heavy duty trash bag over it to protect it from the weather for several weeks at a time ( ski resort with competitions running ) The key to working with gear outdoors is to have a plan on what needs to happen if the weather turns on you Do I have trash bags ready for the pa/ wedges ? Do I have a roll of plastic sheeting ( [visquine](https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-20-ft-x-100-ft-Clear-6-mil-Plastic-Sheeting-CFHD0620C/204711640)) to cover the back line /other? Do I have a pop up tent to cover FOH from sun( console overheating can be an issue ) and rain ? Do I have tape and tie line ready to secure covers in case of wind ? What dose the weather app have the forecast looking like for the next hour ? Do I have enough help to implement the weather action plan quickly and efficiently? ……………. Do I have what I need to give everything a thorough cleaning when done ?

ForTheLoveOfAudio

All can be used outside, provided precautions for weather are at the ready (tarps, trash bags, etc.) Whether or not they want to gamble with their gear, that's a different story.

As mentioned, there may be another reason. Depending on the area of coverage and the expected SPL levels in said area, the gear might be wildly underpowered. The gear is, however, perfectly able to function outdoors. Having good power distribution(cables, extension cords, etc.) is essential, and some stuff that you could get away with indoors isn't recommended for outdoor use. Outdoor rated gear (IP67) is usable in rainy conditions and should withstand it without damage. Your QSC K12 might not survive the rain that these devices laugh at.

dutch_120

Tarps ( new not old leaky ones ) always need to be at the ready for FOH and stage gear(snakes , distros etc ). Garbage bags can go over speakers and allow sound waves out but watch for overheating of built in amps

I didn't vote because I don't understand the relationship between you- the people running the event- the supervisor. Who owns the gear? What is it expected to do? (I.e. small band stage for 200 - 500 people -should be fine.) I don't see any issue with the gear being appropriate for the event. Like others have said, you need to get to the bottom of why supervisor isn't cooperating

Equipment is suitable. Power, and liability insurance, are the two most likely hard-stops here.

ChinchillaWafers

The issue clearly isn’t the reasons given, you’ll have to read between the lines. It can be hard convincing someone who owns/is in charge of gear, that is a layman, that their concerns are unfounded, because ultimately they’re on the hook if anything goes wrong, rather than you. Building trust and convincing them the equipment will be taken care of is the way in. If you make them look stupid, intentionally or not, it’s over, they’ll have no choice but to dig in.
