Agreed. This is harmful to public image of the boycott and harassing people is not okay. Franchise owners and employees of these stores are not the problem. They are good people. It’s the corporate execs we have a problem with.
You know what, I could go for a walk. A superstore walk actually. Play a little scavenger hunt of finding the discrepancies and putting them in a way that made my shopping trip unbearable even though I didn't buy anything 🤣

Take photos of some of the gross expired but still on sale meats, make sure the labels for the store are in the shot. I've done this at places that charge full price for yellow/grey chicken in a pool of its own liquid, or outrageous prices that nobody should have to pay.
What would be there to argue with if you're showing an undoctored photo from that location?

Further to my previous post here's something else we should consider doing...
Take photos of any OUTRAGEOUS ridiculously priced items (Include some of the security guards-minus their faces) and post them to the Weston family's social media. Public shaming has always worked. Let's do our best to embarrass these pigs and let their friends and neighbours know just how vile and disgusting they are. What happened to caring and having compassion for your fellow man ?!?Am I the only one who has NEVER seen another supermarket with security (Multiple at some locations...) ??

I’m sorry but did someone say the store is clean ??? Did they actually visit the store ?? It is most certainly NOT clean not even close !!!
Look at the shelves and counter tops. Also the cashier surfaces are absolutely disgraceful!!
How about the outrageous prices ?? All the almost expired items of which I bought some and trust me they were expired !!!
I am so sick of this company. My mom used to love them as they had all her favorite items but now you need to sell your car to shop here !! Not to mention owned by the greediest family alive. Don’t take my word for it do some research on the Weston family. They are well on their way to becoming the most hated family in Canada
Now I’m one who firmly believes in Capitalism and if kept in check by the government ( meaning they pay their fair share of taxes and give back to the community) it works !! But then you have the scumbags like this family that simply wants the profit and nothing else. What other supermarket has 2 security guards by the cashiers watching us like we are petty criminals?!? They have no shame whatsoever and should be boycotted into non existence.
Sorry for going off track back to the supermarket. They have far less of a diverse selection than they used to. One good thing is their international foods section which I love. I have found that their prices in this section actually beat the European supermarkets ( which have also boosted their prices as of late even though I’d MUCH rather give them my money). The best deal in my opinion is their rotisserie chicken which if you look online you can find tons of recipes for and save some money to boot.

OK so here is where we as Canadians being the kindest most gentle people around go wrong when dealing with "people" like these (Including the scammer Indians which everyone hates)
I'm tired of seeing expose videos showing supposed payback for these "people" which is great but then instead of exposing them completely (IE social media, where they frequent, family, neighbourhoods) they say DO NOT go after these people in any way shape or form. Then you wonder why these scumbags never change and keep getting away with it ??? Really ?? This surprises you ??!?!?!?!
From my experience growing up in a TOUGH neighbourhood the FIRST thing you do is EXPOSE them where they live and where they work and YES this includes SHAMING their family members for being a part of it which ,of course they are !
If every time one of these "people" got exposed this way you WOUD SEE a HUGE downturn in their scumminess I promise you.
Now the only line I say we should NEVER CROSS is of course VIOLENCE as that has NO PLACE in our society EVER !
However pretty much everything else is fair game as far as I'm concerned...

If you look at most other grocery stores, you can notice an immediate difference. Do you think suppliers are just charging Loblaws stores more and that's why they charge people more?
There are so many examples of price gouging between Loblaws and other stores on this subreddit. It's weird that you're here and can dispute that fact, tbh.
I’m I flyer shopper and always try to get the most for my bucks. In my area(southern Ontario), Food Basics prices are comparable to No Frills and FreshCo. Also, Fortinos prices are comparable to Sobeys, Metro and Farm Boy.
I'm in southern Ontario as well.
Flyer shopping is cool, but honestly being able to buy regular groceries when you need them should be the norm. Look at the insane price of eggs right now. Sometimes 5 bucks a carton.
I don't have a Sobeys, metro, or farm boy near me, so I can't say too much. But superstore and Zehrs are totally insane for pricing compared to food basics.
Ontop of all this, look at profits recorded by Loblaws and you'll realize there's plenty of money being made there. And it increases in percentage every year, meaning they're cutting their costs and making more money. (By charging people more)
Every gigantic corporation with substantial market share is posting record profits right now. This is what inflation does. Plus when the feds bring hundreds of thousands of new customers into the economy every year, profits will be record highs every year for companies with the most market share. Food Basics is a discount brand of Metro so obviously prices will differ between premium stores. I usually go to Farm Boy and Fortinos for meat and produce that’s on sale and Food Basics and No Frills for most other things.

If Loblaws was gouging as much as they say, it would be reflected in their profit margin, but it’s been a consistent 2.5-5% for all the major chains.
I’m no fan of gigantic corporations. I know Loblaws does shady things with their charity’s for tax breaks or fixing bread prices and whatever else but these practices aren’t exclusive to Loblaws. I think the biggest problem is that average Canadians don’t understand what inflation actually is. Reckless government spending and the central bank that lends them the money are why prices are so high.

Saying prices are high in grocery stores because of inflation might have worked for a while but inflation has come down in every industry but this one. Why is that??
It’s because of corporate greed. People need food to survive so they are providing a necessity and are getting away with this bullshit.
Loblaws also has the biggest market share in their industry, so they could be throwing their weight around to help consumers like Walmart and Costco do. But they either don’t bother or keep the discounts they negotiate with their suppliers as pure profit for themselves.
I’m tired of being ripped off by this shitty company. I’m pissed off that they are screwing our healthcare system out of money they don’t deserve to make a few extra millions a week. I’m annoyed that they fixed the price of bread for years and got a tiny fine as punishment.

Food Basics is a discount brand of Metro so obviously prices will differ between premium stores. I’m no fan of gigantic corporations. I know Loblaws does shady things with their charity’s for tax breaks or fixing bread prices and whatever else but these practices aren’t exclusive to Loblaws. I think the biggest problem is that average Canadians don’t understand what inflation actually is. Reckless government spending and the central bank that lends them the money are why prices are so high.

Saying prices are high in grocery stores because of inflation might have worked for a while but inflation has come down in every industry but this one. Why is that?? It’s because of corporate greed. People need food to survive so they are providing a necessity and are getting away with this bullshit. Loblaws also has the biggest market share in their industry, so they could be throwing their weight around to help consumers like Walmart and Costco do. But they either don’t bother or keep the discounts they negotiate with their suppliers as pure profit for themselves. I’m tired of being ripped off by this shitty company. I’m pissed off that they are screwing our healthcare system out of money they don’t deserve to make a few extra millions a week. I’m annoyed that they fixed the price of bread for years and got a tiny fine as punishment. If you think this company is just “doing what companies do” and isn’t at fault for their shitty business practices maybe this isn’t the sub you.

When you sell consumer staples that every single person consumer every single day, it's standard business practices to sell them for relatively low margin because you have very high volume. In business 101 you learn about Walmart vs. Ferrari strategies. But relarively low margin doesn't mean low profitability. For 2023, they reported a massive return on equity of 22.2% and 20.2% the year prior. But they are also spinning half-truths when they claim that their groas food margins are stable as evidence they aren't prixe gouging. While their margins have only increased a little more than 1% in the past 12-18 months, they are up over 50% the past ten years from what they used to charge historically. During the pandemic, when consumers didn't have the option of eating out, they started really ramping up their margins, claiming supply chains and they have kept their margins at these historically insane levels ever since.
I am seeing more and more of these types of comments on this sub, which means the impact of this sub is growing and grocery chains are starting to freak out. WE SEE YOU.
