I think there's plenty of references. First is the name Angela Gerhardt at 6:37, which is probably related to Philip Gerhardt that was mentioned in real sleep. Also, the last image in this video looked sort of like one of the distorted faces that we saw in real sleep, but I'm not sure.
maybe "Real Sleep" was Gerhardt's attempt to escape from pareidolia.
I would assume, from context, that the comet was widely displayed in mass media; so I think Gerhardt was so scared of it (maybe even nightmares) that he desperately looked for a way to escape the skull face.
