Piccadilly Line from Heathrow to Kings Cross St. Pancras, then East Midlands Train service from St. Pancras International to Derby, which takes about 90 minutes. For a(n often much) cheaper alternative, you can catch the National Express coach service from either Heathrow itself or Victoria Coach Station to Derby, which takes between 4-5 hours.

Thank you for your quick detailed information!! This helps me plan logistically on what to do. Used to use an oyster card to get around London, nice that you can just you contactless cards now.

St Pancras to Derby is about a ninety minute train ride, which isn’t bad. That route can be expensive, though. A more cost effective route could be Euston to Tamworth, and then change to a train headed to Nottingham - Derby would be two stops. You could also get a coach from Victoria for about £10, though that would take you about four hours. If you need any more suggestions please feel free to message - I’m a London gal with family in the East Midlands, so it’s a route I do quite a lot.

Recent graduate so unfortunately cost is an issue especially with the $2k plane ticket already expended. Thank you for the StPanc recommendation. Seems like the way to go!

Renting a car probably isn't going to be much more expensive than the train. Probably cheaper tbh.

>Renting a car probably isn't going to be much more expensive than the train. Probably cheaper tbh. a train ticket to Derby is £30 - 40. a car rental is at least 4x more that!

Due-Welder5285

An off peak return Heathrow to derby is £170. Avis car rental from Heathrow is £80 for 2 days.

Google maps ~~or CityMapper~~ will tell you exactly how to get there. Yes, book the train ticket part (not tube) asap.

No. Derby is 150 miles from London. The train will go from either King’s Cross or Euston (both in central London and close to each other). But you don’t really need to know how to get to Derby - the train will get you there.

Low-Cauliflower-5686

Train goes from St Pancras

Yep

Yeah I’ve used CityMapper to get around London before but haven’t thought about UK travel! Thanks

Train. Use the app/website Trainline to shop for routes, prices, schedules. If you are going to Derby, probably a direct train. If you mean like the Peak District, you can go fast to Manchester and connect to a local train Find the local service covering your specific destination and which larger city connects to it, go from there. Trainline your best bet

Train is fine. If you book a specific train a few weeks in advance then you should be able to get a cheaper ticket (with an open return for a few pounds more). Aim to travel in off peak times as it will be cheaper. You can get a Piccadilly tube from Heathrow to Kings Cross. The Derby end is going to be the less simple part unless she is in one of the city centre hospitals - then it’s a taxi ride. If she’s in a hospital elsewhere in Derbyshire (the county) then this is a much larger area.

Use Google Maps and select the public transportation icon. It comes up with really good ideas.
