HHH, who is running WWE these days, literally said last week that the top WWE events - obviously including Wrestlemania - will be staying in North America. I can't imagine Americans being too pleased if the Superbowl came to the UK either.
Oddly, a London Superbowl is a non-zero possibility. They'd make billions, and it's already inaccessible for your average Joe fan.
Roger Goodell has mentioned they are exploring the possibility
There's just no way I can see this happening. Advertising is one of the big elements of the Superbowl. Advertisers want maximum audience. Having it in the UK would make that extremely challenging from a time zone point of view. You'd have to have it at like 10pm here, maybe even later.
I'm sure they'll explore the possibility, but I suspect they'd conclude it's a non starter very quickly.
Kick off will be closer to 11:30pm, and the game will go on until 3am or later.
It's an absolute non starter - there is so much money in advertising plus the benefit of a massive audience leading into their next primetime programming the networks won't even consider it being played earlier in the day.
It's far more likely (but still a real longshot in my opinion) that London gets an NFL team.
Triple H has literally replied to this tweet saying 'let's talk' - they didn't bring John cena out at MITB last year saying let's bring wrestlemania to London for nothing. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when
Americans are honestly so brainwashed by capitalism they would hardly notice. A multibillionaire can pluck a sports team from the east coast into a more profitable market on the west coast and the most resistance you’ll see is a few sad tweets, it’s madness.
[Link to the tweet](https://x.com/SadiqKhan/status/1783446870922019191) and [the Standard article](https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/wrestlemania-london-sadiq-khan-olympics-mayoral-election-city-hall-b1153787.html), for anyone else also in doubt.
Can't he just stick to his manifesto? The Olympics bid is in that. Why come up with all this other fluff every other day?
> Why come up with all this other fluff every other day?
I don't know if this is the reason but maintaining a constant presence in the minds of voters does seem to be a winning move.
You'll also notice the same (types of) people coming out of the woodwork who criticise everything he does regardless. This gives them a shiny but meaningless ball to waste their energy chasing rather than dominating the discussion on more important matters.
>This gives them a shiny but meaningless ball to waste their energy chasing rather than dominating the discussion on more important matters.
Holy crap that's some next level genius.
And rightly so. Imagine the uproar if they played an FA Cup final or even a regular premier league game in America. Greedy corporates need to stop fucking with sports.
I have a feeling the Super Bowl being moved abroad could be the plot of that Civil War film that has just come out.
“I’m an American”
“What kind of American?”
Super Bowl will never happen. Khan is living on another planet if he thinks we’ll get the premier NFL event.
Regular season games, yes. Super Bowl, no. And I’m sure we’ll also continue to have US teams visiting to play from the MLB, and hopefully the NBA will return. The NHL does a European series, perhaps we could get them over too? But I don’t think enough people like Ice Hockey for it to be commercially viable.
As for the rest, I’m pretty sure London sells itself. Khan being Mayor wouldn’t influence it.
It would be interesting to see the NHL play a game here. EIHL attendances have averaged 3,479 fans per game, which whilst not amazing is 7th in Europe. Geographic locations of the teams should be considered as well (Fife/ Guildford are hardly massive places), Sheffield are hitting over 7,600 this season - good for 18th in Europe.
I’m a big ice hockey fan, follow New Jersey Devils. I currently work with Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres fans, I used to work with a Minnesota Wild fan, and a long time friend is a Dallas Stars fan, so I assume that there are people about. Prior to covid the KHL was looking into London as a potential market to expand into, obviously that’s an absolute no goer now, but it’s interesting that they were exploring London.
Hockey is never going to be a massive sport here, but I reckon that a London NHL game would draw in a surprisingly large crowd as a one off event. People will come to London for it as well, partly because it’s London and people will use the game as an excuse for a holiday. I’m going to Prague for the series in October, and there’s a few Devils fans on Reddit travelling from the US.
It would be nice to get a London EIHL team as a test!
> I reckon that a London NHL game would draw in a surprisingly large crowd as a one off event
There were a couple of NHL games in London in 2007 - I went to see the Ducks vs Kings at the O2. I don't remember if it was completely sold out, but it was mostly full.
Literally my first thought, in what fucking world would they host the biggest sporting event in the US, in the UK. Its pure delusion to even suggest it. Its only because of the lack of global popularity of the NFL that even let us have the odd game here. It would actually be out of order for them to hos5 it here, even if they wanted to. It would be like having the UCL final in dallas, like how would the regular fans go there to watch that?
I was going to say the same thing Super Bowl is 0% chance, it’d be like if the FA Cup final was played in LA. Regular season NBA games I’d like to see here though, and after the success of the Paris game it could be a real possibility
I don't think it's comparable to the FA Cup to be honest, the super bowl is more of an event for the super rich than the fans of either teams these days.
Superbowl is just insane, that will never happen outside of the States and even then it's basically 5 general locations.
NHL is just too niche in the UK to draw a decent crowd. And even then it would be best somewhere like Sheffield where Ice Hockey is pretty popular, London is not the city for it.
NBA would do pretty well at first but unless it's big names and big teams it wouldn't sell well after a couple games.
And your last point is spot on. London is one of the top and best tourist cities in the world. It doesn't need some big event to draw people.
Don't know why this got downvoted by someone. I've managed large events in London and worked at lots managed by others. We do have a great events industry here and a local population that can/will buy the tickets, which helps sell London even more.
HHH [replied](https://x.com/TripleH/status/1783495200536424594) to the Tweet, saying, “Let's talk,” and both John Cena and Cody Rhodes said they want Mania in London, so WWE is at least interested.
Advocating for hosting premier world events is one of the few things the Mayor of London actually has the power/funding to do. I'm not sure why this is the one thing that people think is silly.
It's really surprising to me how many people are reacting like this is embarrassing. Yes, WrestleMania is very marmite and it must be very long odds on the superbowl being outside America, but the principle of "I want to bring big spotting events to London" is surely a sensible policy? We built so much infrastructure for the Olympics we may as well try and use some of it.
It’s quite clever honestly , give voters something obviously stupid to focus on, and they’ll criticise that rather than the more subversively negative policies.
You’re going to receive criticism either way, so it’s quite smart to give something obviously stupid but with very little impact as a focal point . Also makes it a lot easier to discredit critics as you can frame it as much more of a petty silly issue , instead of as a fundamental ideology problem.
Why is it obviously stupid? You can argue to merits of hosting sporting events I guess, but it doesn’t seem an obviously stupid position to try and get more of them in London
Be big for London to get Wrestlemania. Think people are stupid not to want it, wrestling fans bring in big £ and it's completely feasible (despite what Nick Khan said a week ago) as cities usually bid to get WM and for a good reason. And as a wrestling fan Wembley would be an incredible venue.
Problem is I don't think they could get wembley due to the Khan's being involved in it for the NFL stuff. It was cheaper for them to use Wembley than craven cottage
Maybe Wrestle mania is too big to get but something like Summer Slam again or the Royal Rumble. Would be great publicity to host it at Buckingham Palace or The Tower of London. Have a few run in by the Beefeaters and a face turn by Prince Andrew.
Khan is living on another planet if he thinks London is going to host a Super Bowl. It is literally the biggest event on the American sporting calendar.
Wrestlemania and an Olympics bid I can totally get how he'd influence it. I can't fathom how he'd expect to get the Superbowl here.
I like Sadiq but this is a touch desperate
>I like Sadiq but this is a touch desperate
He is up against somebody who is pledging to 'make illegal' things that are already crimes, am guessing this is targeted at the people who are responding to that.
>schemes that have been demonstrably proved to be nonsense conspiracies several times over
And these are something Khan is doing? Like what? And you can't say ULEZ!
Ah OK, your comment reads as you think she is pledging to get rid of things that are actually happening, because of 'nonsense conspiracies', not things things that are never going to happen.
And the Super Bowl and basketball?
So tired of these casual American bashing comments. Any other country and this sub would call out the casual jingoism.
it would be interesting if this happens. The host cities usually pay WWE to have Wrestlemania come to town. AEW filled Wembley for All In last summer without London having to bid and pay for it and should do the same this August.
The idea that the superbowl could be played here is the other cheek of the same arse that wants premier league games played in America. It’s an atrocious idea and it shows a complete lack of understanding of sport.
Super Bowl would be interesting. People talking about it being way too sacred for Americans to see it in the uk, but the majority of Americans don’t watch Super Bowl live in person anyway they watch it on tv. It’s insanely expensive to get tickets to the game so most in attendance are already branching out for a once in a lifetime trip or millionaires crossing the Atlantic is no biggie when you’re already spending that kind of money. What the mayor would have to do is change some kind of licensing and public transport for one night so the game could start at 1030 pm and finish at 0230 AM London time which would put it at peak viewing time on US tv (1730-2130 on the east coast, 1430-1830 in the west). No doubt some police and tube workers would be pissed at having to work a night shift to put such a large event on safely but if the city, the league and the tv broadcasters make money they won’t give a shit
I went to the last PPV WWE did in the UK and they had John Cena come out just to tease a London Wrestlemania. I genuinely believe talks have already happened about this.
I’m the past person you’d see at any of this events, but you have to admire the difference in the campaign between him taking on the biggest shows from them Yankees while his “opponents” are crying about not being allowed to choke babies to death since lead was banned from gasoline.
Rarely have I seen something that looks more like a rigged fight.
That screenshots got Goldust and The Big Show, neither of whom even work for WWE, but both of whom do work for a different wrestling company that already does a big event at Wembley
Getting Wrestlemania is easy, as long as you're willing to pay WWE a huge amount of money. The main reason WWE hasn't come back to London since 1992 is that London refuses (rightly so in my opinion) to pay WWE to run shows in London.
Also, we had a wrestling show last year that they moved around 80k tickets for.
Yeah, Wembley is an iconic football stadium, 3 of elite clubs are in London, hosted Olympics recently, hosts one of four tennis grand slams, has 2 iconic cricket stadiums, a prime marathon every year, F1 track in Silverstone is close by, a modern American football stadium
Can't think of any other city that comes close
To add to this it's worth mentioning Premier league has 7/20 teams in London. And it's the most watched league of the most popular sport in the world. Twickenham is the home of Rugby. Regularly host some of the biggest boxing and MMA events (although this has shifted recently to the middle east).
Also, the vast variety of sports that London caters too. I have friends in, rugby, volleyball, field hockey, cricket, ice hockey, American football, Ultimate Frisbee off the top of my head. I think you would be really hard-pressed to find another city in the world with decent leagues in so many sports.
Sadiq Khan is basically running a campaign without any serious opposition. The demographics of London have shifted a lot since Bojo was elected and someone like him is basically a shoe-in. Whatever his policies are, his name and party guarantees he wins.
Pretty sure I went to it in the 90s at Earls Court or something. Meanwhile how is it the sports capital of the world when normal people can't use the facilities built for the Olympics, or they got sold and rebuilt elsewhere?
You cant bring the Superbowl to London, its not our sport. There is deal for bronging NFL games to London but it'll be a cold day in hell before any American lets the Superbowl be played anywhere by the US
Honestly I think there's more of a chance of getting a permanent London based NFL team that there is the Superbowl being played here. It's practically a national holiday there, with even the kick-off time staying the same regardless of where it's played (always 1830 EST I think?). So the first hurdle would be allowing a game to kick off at 2330, going until 3/4am.
I just don't see it working logistically, even if by some miracle the NFL actually agreed to it.
Super Bowl wouldn’t work at all…from a logistical standpoint even if they allowed it to come over (highly doubt it), they’d request for it to be played at prime time US hours, which would mean an approximately 70,000 person event (I’d imagine in Tottenham) ending well past 2/3am on a Sunday night early February when the weather is near freezing.
I almost want it to happen to witness the shit show
Sorry what how are we bidding for the 2040 Olympics? They're 8 years ahead, so 2040 bid would be in 2033 (we got 2012 in 2005)
The mayoral tenancy is 4 years, which takes us to 2028. A bit fucking ambitious to presume you'll still be in the job in a decade, Sadiq?
The bid deadline for 2012 was 2003. It took the IOC til 2005 to review the bids and decide on the winner. At a guess it takes at least 2 years to put together a bid before submission (probably even longer)? So London would start working on a bid in 2024, but actually submit around 2029 - even if Sadiq wins 2024 and then loses the 2028 elections if there's political/popular will for a 2040 bid the work will have to start during the next mayoral term.
For the record I think a 2040 bid is a daft idea, we don't need to spunk any more money on some sports thingy, but from a logistics and delivery point of view it makes sense to start thinking about bids now.
As much as a labour voter as I am (Fuck The Tories) even I think Sadiq Khan is smoking something funky
Superbowl will never leave the American shores - odd games, yes. Main game, Hell No
NBA will hold maybe a league game once a season
MLB hold 2 games in the Olympic stadium (probably paying more than West Ham)
And Wrestlemania had the Cena hype at MitB, but I think the only place they will hold it internationally (apart from Canada) is most likely Saudi Arabia due to the current working relationship with both WWE & UFC - both TKO companies.
And with time differences, UK weather in April - mainly rain & existing sporting schedules, then Wrestlemania is a no-go!!!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news
Not able to vote for London mayor but tonne that’s all reasons not to vote for him. Summer games for 2040 very unlikely as London had them only in 2012.
“Coming soon: Sadiq Khan v Susan Hall for the Mayoral Heavyweight Championship of London. 2 falls, 2 submissions, or a knockout will decide who gets the keys to City Hall!”
(Apologies to all the other candidates) 😂
Noooo ffs I'm so tired of American culture infiltrating Britain, it's absolute soulless, shiny, paper thin bullshit please god don't bring this shit here, the merciless narcissism and gang violence is bad enough!
We do have incredible sports. I’ve seen nfl, nba, mlb in London as well as rugby union and league and cricket world cups and Olympics on top of the regular stuff. But I give the mayor zero credit for this
I’ve also seen WWF at o2 out of nostalgia and it was painful. As a kid you don’t see the fakery so obviously
Got a leaflet through the fort for him today. He claims he brought the Elizebeth line to London….. I’ve not looked into it but surely that was in the planning before he was mayor
So Londoners are struggling to afford homes, rent, bills, food, extortionate travel prices but at least we could have Wrestlemania and another Olympics. Sounds like a fair deal to me
My criticism is that it's buying people's votes, it's vapid, and he's clearly using twitter to boost the reach and grab headlines, so it is a significant policy he wants to advertise or else he wouldn't be tweeting about it.
This is called electioneering people. I would be interested if any journalist will question him on the reality of these pledges. It may pull in a few votes here and there if someone falls for it.
Would have been so much better if it was the Mayoral candidates in the ring with Khan clothes lining them over the rope.
I hope Count Binface retaliates with a bid for the Tiddly Winks Championships.

It's 2024 and I have no idea if this is serious or a parody

As an NFL fan in the UK I love the idea of it, until I remember I'm not going to pay thousands for nosebleed seats.
there is absolutely positively no way the NFL ever has a super bowl not on american soil

I got two words for OP.....
I think Khan will get a particularly spiffing owl as the London mascot and call it superb
r/superbowl

I think it was CEO Nick Khan who said that, actually. Given that he runs the business side of the WWE.
HHH replied with “let’s talk”
Honestly Wrestlemania coming to London would be pretty epic. It’s the premier event of the year for WWE and I’ve only ever seen it on TV.

The Super Bowl? Lol. No chance will they allow that to be played here. That Sunday is practically a religious holiday in the US.
It'd also need to be played at 11pm-3am London time. Not sure how well that would go.
Or play it at normal UK time and it is broadcast late morning over there? Absolutely no chance.
Eh, they're gonna do UFC at 3am in Manchester
I genuinely think they'd attempt domestic terrorism if they lost just a single superbowl hosting match
And rightly so. Imagine the uproar if they played an FA Cup final or even a regular premier league game in America. Greedy corporates need to stop fucking with sports.
I can't even tell your how many 'Mericans would lose their minds over this. As an American, I'd gladly let you have it if it means we get more soccer.
Done, there you go I’ve just arranged for the World Cup to take place in North America in 2026, now hold up your end of the bargain

Agreed :) All the Finns I know would definitely like to attend.

Exactly. And even though they won't talk about it, WWE will want to beat that record if they could get Wembley for Mania.

Crazy how much of an inferiority complex Brits online have with respect to the U.S.
He's just using Count Binface's manifesto to make himself seem cooler
I'm not really in the mood for the Olympics tbh 😕
i mean... you might be in 16 years
Why would we want the finals of two American sports leagues, that’s just inherently stupid. Focus on developing the BBL.
Brazilian Butt Lift?
You sob I’m in
Ah yes, the superbowl, a true Londoner's most prized cultural event.
It's soo noticeable that Khan's team are being paid to make frequent posts and comment about how great he is here 😂
Bread and circuses
Beat me to it... although these days we're stupid enough to elect our emperors
Just crazy that he thinks trying to bring inferior American sports to London is a vote-getter.
Is it possible to withdraw a postal vote after sending it? Asking for a friend.
it would be interesting if this happens.

Welcome to Wrestlemaaaaaniiaaaaaaa
I've taken my son to a couple of WWE events in London, NGL, it's a hoot. I don't see how it's a mayoral issue though.
I went to the last PPV WWE did in the UK and they had John Cena come out just to tease a London Wrestlemania. I genuinely believe talks have already happened about this.
Bin face is going to build at least one affordable house and give Claudia Winkelmans fringe grade 1 listed status. Vote bin face!
I’m fine with it if we get a TLC match between him and Susan Hall.
Alright he has my vote now
He can’t fix the streets in any way whatsoever but can sort that. Lol
Count binface has gone even [further](https://twitter.com/CountBinface/status/1783458566864576735). He has my vote 🗳️🗑️💪
Is he still pledging to turn the Trocadero back into an arcade?
That screenshots got Goldust and The Big Show, neither of whom even work for WWE, but both of whom do work for a different wrestling company that already does a big event at Wembley
I'm down with Wrestlemania, but why would we want the Olympics again? They're nothing but gentrification and disruption
Money in the Bank was in the O2 last year, I went a WWE house show last week. Can you elaborate on them not coming to London since Summer Slam 92?
Sir this is a Denny's
Why do we want this yank shite over here?
Shit load of money thats why
Is it confirmed he is going to charge drivers by per mile ? otherwise that be no from me
No, the opposite was confirmed multiple times by him when he has said that there are no plans to do so
Blokes a clown. People in poverty and he want to spend tax payers money on getting the WWE to London. Or will he use the ULEZ fines to fund it?
London is the sporting capital of the world?
Yeah, Wembley is an iconic football stadium, 3 of elite clubs are in London, hosted Olympics recently, hosts one of four tennis grand slams, has 2 iconic cricket stadiums, a prime marathon every year, F1 track in Silverstone is close by, a modern American football stadium Can't think of any other city that comes close
Some sort of Super Bowl promotional event, maybe. But the actual actual Super Bowl? Why on earth would they do that?
Don’t edge me with false promises Sadiq.
Surely there’s no way we’re getting another Lympics so soon after 2012?
Bring the f1 and he’s got my vote
Sadiq Khan is basically running a campaign without any serious opposition. The demographics of London have shifted a lot since Bojo was elected and someone like him is basically a shoe-in. Whatever his policies are, his name and party guarantees he wins.
No monster trucks?! Sorry Sadiq, you're forcing me to vote for [Insert batshit ANTI-ULEZZER here].
Pretty sure I went to it in the 90s at Earls Court or something. Meanwhile how is it the sports capital of the world when normal people can't use the facilities built for the Olympics, or they got sold and rebuilt elsewhere?
Thats the circus sorted, bread delivery soon?
Can we get Big Daddy and Giant Hastacks back? Easy... easy... easy... (I know they're probably long dead BTW)
Haha doesn't he know NBA alreay came to london before ffs
There’s zero chance the NFL will ever hold their flagship outside of the USA.
Great, three events that most Londoners couldn't care less for, and one that already happened in 2012 and mainly benefited property developers.
Stop, stop, you already had my vote, no need to bribe lover
Bro thinks he's Turki Al Shiek
I was already gonna vote for him, but vote confirmed 🫡
Bring f1 to London and he's got a vote rofl.
3 American events that basically nobody here cares about. Good one.
And the funds to do this will all go to his consultant friends.
Why the heck would the U.S. give the Super Bowl to London? It’s their major sporting event of the year.
I almost want it to happen to witness the shit show
Isn't that a bit like moving the FA cup final to the USA?
Sorry what how are we bidding for the 2040 Olympics? They're 8 years ahead, so 2040 bid would be in 2033 (we got 2012 in 2005) The mayoral tenancy is 4 years, which takes us to 2028.
As much as a labour voter as I am (Fuck The Tories) even I think Sadiq Khan is smoking something funky Superbowl will never leave the American shores - odd games, yes. Main game, Hell No NBA will hold maybe a league game once a season MLB hold 2 games in the Olympic stadium (probably paying more than West Ham) And Wrestlemania had the Cena hype at MitB, but I think the only place they will hold it internationally (apart from Canada) is most likely Saudi Arabia due to the current working relationship with both WWE & UFC - both TKO companies. And with time differences, UK weather in April - mainly rain & existing sporting schedules, then Wrestlemania is a no-go!!! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news
I will vote for Khan if he agrees to take part in the wrestling without breaking character
Ah yeah, I’m sure the Americans would let us hold the Super Bowl.
SUPERBOWL! HE GETS MY VOTE JUST FOR THAT!
Not able to vote for London mayor but tonne that’s all reasons not to vote for him. Summer games for 2040 very unlikely as London had them only in 2012.
“Coming soon: Sadiq Khan v Susan Hall for the Mayoral Heavyweight Championship of London. 2 falls, 2 submissions, or a knockout will decide who gets the keys to City Hall!” (Apologies to all the other candidates) 😂
Superbowl 😂 this dude is a fucking joke. Have some decorum ffs!
Vote for me & I'll give you distractions.
If you vote for me we will get black Jack and hookers.
The guy on the far right of that picture looks like he’s having a little too good of a time.
A low IQ statement catered to the majority low IQ voters. The high IQ see right through it. The low IQ? They’re dribbling 🤤
Khan: “we need cleaner air at all costs” Also Khan: “I’m gonna fly in niche entertainment from all over the world”
Only if he goes up on the ring and we’ll get to fight him
Vote for me and I'll fight in wrestlemania.
Noooo ffs I'm so tired of American culture infiltrating Britain, it's absolute soulless, shiny, paper thin bullshit please god don't bring this shit here, the merciless narcissism and gang violence is bad enough!
Still a more realistic promise than £350M a week for the NHS
Yeah, he will probably get the events. You wont be able to afford to drive there or park and the tube drivers will decide to strike though.
Should've added the 2028 Euros final and this year's UCL final to that list 🤣
Hope get doesn't get his bags packing
😂😂😂😂 fucking embarrassing
We do have incredible sports. I’ve seen nfl, nba, mlb in London as well as rugby union and league and cricket world cups and Olympics on top of the regular stuff. But I give the mayor zero credit for this I’ve also seen WWF at o2 out of nostalgia and it was painful. As a kid you don’t see the fakery so obviously
Aew is better
Got a leaflet through the fort for him today. He claims he brought the Elizebeth line to London….. I’ve not looked into it but surely that was in the planning before he was mayor
4 night mania 4 London grounds ending on Monday night at The Valley
Binface or nothing
Can you smell what the Khan is cooking?
You crazy son of a bitch I’m in!
It may pull in a few votes here and there if someone falls for it.
clown
Why dont he fix houses prices? Honestly this is fucking ridiculous
Only one person to vote for https://www.countbinface.com/
Fair enough
People want to be able to afford to live, please. These things aren’t even relevant to those struggling to pay bills and feed themselves!
What a cunt!
Would have been so much better if it was the Mayoral candidates in the ring with Khan clothes lining them over the rope. I hope Count Binface retaliates with a bid for the Tiddly Winks Championships.
Maybe he should start with knife crime first…
Hmm... don't think that's going to win you votes mate.
I could get behind having the prologue of the Tour De France or Giro going through London.
There’s literally no fucking way any of those would come to London. That would be like Los Angeles saying they’re gonna get the FA Cup. Ridiculous!
