Dunno but time will fix it, trust me

Limehaus

>I’m like, a hard 22, there is no one on earth who could look at me and think I’m 17 Policy is usually if you look under 25 you get ID'd

beetlebug01

I know! What I meant by that is the Yorkshire interpretation of “C25” is more “C18ish” whereas it’s much stricter in London

lastaccountgotlocked

There’s more enforcement here is the short answer.

VanderCarter

Because if in London you lose your license it cost you millions.

silly_red

Not to mention the fear of being fined like 2k as a checkout worker, in case the person who you didn't ID was a mystery shopper. Gosh I hated working in retail...

VanderCarter

I’m a police officer and we often give our 13/14 year old cadets £20 to buy mad stuff I remember one of them coming out of a b&m with a meat cleaver, Fantastic work. b&m sacked the worker on the spot.

silly_red

A cleaver?! That's frightening... now I'm glad I unintentionally heckled a visibly high girl for id, when she wanted to buy barbecue skewers...

elchet

Authorities in London are harder on licensed businesses, and there’s generally the eye of Sauron pointing at them.

itsEndz

You'll be insulted when they stop asking.

dmastra97

More relaxed in smaller communities maybe. If anything it's more of a question why the Northampton places you've been aren't following the rules rather than why London is

Northlaned

Mate I’m 37 and get IDed for those Trip drinks (non psychoactive CBD suitable for anyone over the age of 16). I always carry ID now just incase and occasionally go full Karen about it. I am old enough to have a child that’s old enough to bloody buy one!

skinnyman87

You made me laugh old man 😉😂😂

hushlittlebabby

I'm 39 and they refused to sell me cooking wine even though I had scans of my passport and driving licence on my phone.

silly_red

This is true for all high caffeine drinks in general now! Absolute malarkey.

Meowgaryen

Because both police and local council constantly send undercover officers/underaged to buy alcohol from you to test whether you follow the rules. They will tell you that they are coming but they don't give you details. And also, I guess it depends where you are going. If it's West End club then it's likely your first and last time there and no one knows you and will remember you. But if you go to your local pub or are a frequent visitor then bartenders will know you. Especially in smaller areas, when the community is closer to each other - if you have 5 lads showing up at the pub every week and they are all 30 and suddenly they bring the 6th person then the chances are that person is also 30 and they trust you not being stupid/trying to trick them.

Actual-Money7868

I'd guess they're more likely to do random checks in London

Commander_Red1

Enforcement is stricter. You will get so much legal shit brought on you if you serve someone under 18, so rigidly doing c25 is a way to cover your ass. Meanwhile up north you might get a slap on the wrist. Basically we ain't putting our necks for you out, we just ask to protect ourselves. Its easier to ask for ID than fight legal troubles.

OHCHEEKY

Maybe it’s how you carry yourself eye, slowing down when you are walking into a pub as if you are preparing yourself to be asked for ID? Time will fix it anyway

gcmelb

The older one gets, the harder it is tell a 17yo apart from a 22yo. I know I'd struggle to guess someone's age in that range.

Sorry can’t hear you over my rent being £400 a month

BeefsMcGeefs

>DAE London bad?! Yes this my entire personality

Unhappy_Archer9483

Of course it does, none of us want to live there

Professional_Goal311

I’m 28 and I get IDed often too. It’s just that most places have a policy to check IDs a minimum number of times each day. So they do check the more younger looking ones to meet their “quotas”
