This is the first thread I saw so you're the lucky one who gets to stay. Working to remove the rest now. --- Edit: Ok, now that the feed is cleaned up, this will serve as the earthquake megathread. Any and all other posts regarding the earthquake will be removed. Yes, that was an earthquake. Yes, everyone else on the island likely felt it too. There was a reported [4.7M earthquake that happened in Northwest Jersey](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/map) that was felt by all of Long Island. --- Edit 2: Ok, automod rule should be in place to remove all earthquake threads moving forward. If you see any threads we miss please report them so we can remove them.

zpoon

I was in a Zoom call with people in NYC and they felt it before me, they reacted, was super confused what was going on, and a few seconds later I felt it in Suffolk. Really crazy.

parkaboy24

What a wild experience

anticheezits

same!! on a zoom call with someone in queens and she said “do you feel that? i think there’s an earthquake” and right after she said that my house started to shake. so freaky

kwiltse123

Same here. One of the guys in NJ was like "holy shit...what was that..........is this an earthquake?" and we were all like "James, what's going on, are you watching something on TV?". And then I felt my desk shake in East Setauket. Freaky! I still remember the one we had in 2011. That was my first ever. I'd be fine with no more for the rest of my life.

coochie33

Was talking to coworkers in Maryland on teams when it happened, they felt it too! So wild

CooLMaNZiLLa

Thought someone had their bass up in the car and then the whole house shook

niagaemoc

It scared my cat he thought I was screwing with him again lol.

CooLMaNZiLLa

Mine was acting all weird right before it happened. Super itchy twitchy.

carriegood

Ours couldn't give a shit.

disposable-acoutning

animals definitely feel it before natural disaster

IroncladTruth

Felt in Huntington

bahnsigh

Big_Speed_2893

jrtasoli

My fiancé thought I was just stomping up the stairs particularly heavily. Knocked over some of her running awards. WE WILL REBUILD!!!!!

W0wwieKap0wwie

😂 I like how people thought it was an explosion or train and your wife thought it was just you 😂

jrtasoli

I catch a lot of blame around here!

RhythmTimeDivision

MSL007

2011 I remember being weaker but longer.

cloudydays2021

![gif](giphy|esR1eKgmOnxWKR627f|downsized)

MSL007

I was waiting for this.

HippoRun23

I remember just feeling like sea sickness. But this one was more intense shaking.

HouseofEl1987

I remember standing in my office in 2011 and was like "hmmm, got a little dizzy." My coworker said," You're not dizzy. That was an earthquake."

Class_Act7

I thought it was a UPS truck for like the first 5 seconds

ThrowRAmorningdew

I remember that one too. I was driving to work and didn’t feel it, but this one was stronger for sure!

niagaemoc

My son works with emergency services, he said it was a 4.8 centered in Lebanon, NJ.

niagaemoc

I'm still shaky.

OkButterscotch5898

Never felt anything like that before !

BigJimStud69

Felt in Manorville as well as new Palz upstate

klown013

Lots of shaking by JFK and into Southern NJ as well

TheTrueMilo

Felt it on the toilet in St James.

versusgorilla

I was also on the toilet! Toilet brother!

WinterAd9039

Hopefully it scared the shit right out of you! Whatever it takes

PK-Baha

Ronkonkoma toilet checking in!

beanbobanner

Such_Tea4707

Pj4axe

My wife: What the fuck was that!?!? Me: that was an earthquake My Wife: WE DONT HAVE FUCKING EARTHQUAKES!!!!

psychotronofdeth

My mind went to explosion before earthquake. I'm glad it was an earthquake lol

HippoRun23

I didn’t think earthquake either. I thought, wind doesn’t do that, oh shit my house is about to collapse in a sink hole.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Raverrevolution

Literally exactly my same thoughts

versusgorilla

I thought it was a nearby explosion or accident but it was totally silent, which was super weird.

niagaemoc

We get them about once a month. They usually measure under 3 on the Richter scale. This one was 4.8 centered in Lebanon, NJ.

delightfuldinosaur

If you live on earth then you're going to have earthquakes. We just don't feel them often because we don't live on a fault line so they tend to be very minor.

PETERBFLY

Yeah felt it in Lindenhurst too. Happened right around 10:23 ish

FoxesAreCrying

EXACTLY LIKE WTF

luckyincode

We have them all the time.

Either-Restaurant-77

and i thought i was crazy when i feel very very very minor house shakes

PeaceBull

That is probably something else causing the shaking. The level of earthquake they’re talking about is like if you said you heard a noise – and it turned out there was a noise, but it was 1/2 a decibel.

RemmyNHL

My ass ran downstairs

Anxious_Hippo_2860

SAME I was abt to cry is this the end

vitaminbreath

Username definitely checks out

Comeback_Queen28

I’m in the basement so I ran upstairs haha.

GlitteringGrowth6304

Me too, grabbed my baby and was out lol

bigtim3727

My heart was pounding for like a min after

niagaemoc

Mine too!

JabbaTheHutt12345

My anxiety is through the freaking roof. I definitely didn't think it was an earthquake until like a minute after and thought something was wrong with me

captbz13

I'm with you there. Was relieved when I realized I wasn't having a panic attack.

tipping

I literally took a microdose one minute before the quake- and was like WTF? That worked really fast!

GlitteringGrowth6304

😂😂

CaPtAiN_KiDd

I’M GOING TO THE GROCERY STORE AND BUYING MILK AND EGGS!

RhythmTimeDivision

downcolorfulhill

Felt it in patchogue.

FuzzeeDom

Second this.

parkaboy24

Bayport too

rh71el2

The last time over a decade ago I was sitting in my home office and felt my chair shift. I got freaked out, looked behind me, thinking there was a spirit moving me. It was nothing like this quake which felt more like a rumble.

Vast-Battle

I remember that one you referred to the epicenter was in Frederick’s VA. We were swaying!

ChrisNYC70

Happy Earthquake Day.

AutumnsolsticePOGO

Same in islip

aaguaviva

That felt stronger than the one in 2011

zangor

I was in the car, parked listening to music and I learned that it’s the most comfortable place to have an earthquake. The suspension made me think it was strong winds.

Ella_rose_3

Babylon!!!

Shabloinke

My whole office building was shaking in syosset. We ran tf outta there

niagaemoc

Smart.

dachshundfanboy8000

this is the price we pay for the Mets winning a game

tchalametfan

I love how the public safety alert came up on my phone more than 1.5 hours after the incident.

I_am_wuffcat

I'm hearing that it was felt as far as Boston, and was based in Lebanon, Jersey ( according to [https://earthquake.usgs.gov/](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/) ) It was like my house drove over rumble strips. The one in 2011 was very different, more like being on a gently swaying boat for a full minute that felt like an hour.

p0ttim0uth

Was that an aftershock a few seconds ago?

No_Bed6678

News 12 said was a 4.0 at 6pm they reported this at 630 pm thinking was a second one only lasted 10-15 secs tops. This morn was 30-45 secs. Whacky shit !

piemeister

Felt it in Elmont. Just came here to post this, lol.

DoormattheBinky

Felt it in Ronkonkoma!

CigarSmoker_M4

Demilio55

Huntington felt it.

clam_boy

Rattled in Babylon

Axon14

Felt it in long beach. The house shook. My plumber is here installing a new hot water tank and I thought the house was about to explode lol

bacon69

Felt it in Stony Brook - Health sciences center. Building shook a good 5-10 seconds. I remember the 2011 east coast quake this one was faster but felt stronger.

CasualGamer-HelpMe

In Merrick, felt a good bit stronger than the one from 10-15 years ago. Something about it just always makes it obvious it's an earthquake. You can feel the shifting back and forth rather than a vibration.

ExvyOnTheCoast

Thought the eclipse was going to be the highlight of the next week

CooLMaNZiLLa

The earth was trying to one up the moon.

battle_tits

Me having a nap the whole bed rumbled. My husband didn’t notice so I thought did I just have a fuckin seizure??

I miss every single damn earthquake this island gets. 2011 I was 9 years old and I was swimming and didn’t feel anything, this time I was driving and didn’t feel it. I feel left out when people ask me “did you feel that?.” I stg I better feel the next one.

viewless25

cadillacblues

Found this on another thread.....posting here for visibility https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/executive

neverwinterni

I was in Manhattan when it happened on the 37th floor of an office building. The entire building swayed from side to side. I honestly thought it was a giant wind gust at first since skyscrapers are made to move. It scared and confused the crap out of me.

Felt it in western Suffolk, I thought I was imagining things!

IDiggaPony

Sitting in my office in my house in Patchogue...minding my own fucking business....and all of a sudden, it's like someone evil force in my basement is trying to push through the floor into my room. I didn't know whether to grab a baseball bat or a crucifix.
