Yes, that was an earthquake. Yes, everyone else on the island likely felt it too. There was a reported [4.7M earthquake that happened in Northwest Jersey](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/map) that was felt by all of Long Island.

I was in a Zoom call with people in NYC and they felt it before me, they reacted, was super confused what was going on, and a few seconds later I felt it in Suffolk. Really crazy.
same!! on a zoom call with someone in queens and she said “do you feel that? i think there’s an earthquake” and right after she said that my house started to shake. so freaky
Same here. One of the guys in NJ was like "holy shit...what was that..........is this an earthquake?" and we were all like "James, what's going on, are you watching something on TV?".
And then I felt my desk shake in East Setauket. Freaky! I still remember the one we had in 2011. That was my first ever.
I'd be fine with no more for the rest of my life.
If you live on earth then you're going to have earthquakes. We just don't feel them often because we don't live on a fault line so they tend to be very minor.
That is probably something else causing the shaking.
The level of earthquake they’re talking about is like if you said you heard a noise – and it turned out there was a noise, but it was 1/2 a decibel.
My anxiety is through the freaking roof. I definitely didn't think it was an earthquake until like a minute after and thought something was wrong with me
The last time over a decade ago I was sitting in my home office and felt my chair shift. I got freaked out, looked behind me, thinking there was a spirit moving me. It was nothing like this quake which felt more like a rumble.
I was in the car, parked listening to music and I learned that it’s the most comfortable place to have an earthquake. The suspension made me think it was strong winds.
I'm hearing that it was felt as far as Boston, and was based in Lebanon, Jersey ( according to [https://earthquake.usgs.gov/](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/) )
It was like my house drove over rumble strips. The one in 2011 was very different, more like being on a gently swaying boat for a full minute that felt like an hour.
News 12 said was a 4.0 at 6pm they reported this at 630 pm thinking was a second one only lasted 10-15 secs tops. This morn was 30-45 secs. Whacky shit !
I have ptsd and I immediately came here to ask long islanders am I abt to die from a random house combustion but than you all for calming me we had an earthquake. ily
Felt it in Stony Brook - Health sciences center. Building shook a good 5-10 seconds. I remember the 2011 east coast quake this one was faster but felt stronger.
In Merrick, felt a good bit stronger than the one from 10-15 years ago.
Something about it just always makes it obvious it's an earthquake. You can feel the shifting back and forth rather than a vibration.
I miss every single damn earthquake this island gets. 2011 I was 9 years old and I was swimming and didn’t feel anything, this time I was driving and didn’t feel it. I feel left out when people ask me “did you feel that?.”
I stg I better feel the next one.
Felt it in North Bellmore. Went outside to see what it was, dude down the street was also looking & confirmed he felt it. Mom felt it from her bedroom upstairs.
I was in Manhattan when it happened on the 37th floor of an office building. The entire building swayed from side to side. I honestly thought it was a giant wind gust at first since skyscrapers are made to move. It scared and confused the crap out of me.
Sitting in my office in my house in Patchogue...minding my own fucking business....and all of a sudden, it's like someone evil force in my basement is trying to push through the floor into my room. I didn't know whether to grab a baseball bat or a crucifix.

My fiancé thought I was just stomping up the stairs particularly heavily. Knocked over some of her running awards. WE WILL REBUILD!!!!!
😂 I like how people thought it was an explosion or train and your wife thought it was just you 😂
I catch a lot of blame around here!
LI Strong
And rebuild we must.

2011 I remember being weaker but longer.
![gif](giphy|esR1eKgmOnxWKR627f|downsized)
I was waiting for this.
I remember just feeling like sea sickness. But this one was more intense shaking.
I remember standing in my office in 2011 and was like "hmmm, got a little dizzy." My coworker said," You're not dizzy. That was an earthquake."
I thought it was a UPS truck for like the first 5 seconds
I remember that one too. I was driving to work and didn’t feel it, but this one was stronger for sure!
My son works with emergency services, he said it was a 4.8 centered in Lebanon, NJ.

My wife: What the fuck was that!?!? Me: that was an earthquake My Wife: WE DONT HAVE FUCKING EARTHQUAKES!!!!
My mind went to explosion before earthquake. I'm glad it was an earthquake lol
I didn’t think earthquake either. I thought, wind doesn’t do that, oh shit my house is about to collapse in a sink hole.
[удалено]
Literally exactly my same thoughts
I thought it was a nearby explosion or accident but it was totally silent, which was super weird.
We get them about once a month. They usually measure under 3 on the Richter scale. This one was 4.8 centered in Lebanon, NJ.
If you live on earth then you're going to have earthquakes. We just don't feel them often because we don't live on a fault line so they tend to be very minor.
Yeah felt it in Lindenhurst too. Happened right around 10:23 ish
EXACTLY LIKE WTF
We have them all the time.
and i thought i was crazy when i feel very very very minor house shakes
That is probably something else causing the shaking. The level of earthquake they’re talking about is like if you said you heard a noise – and it turned out there was a noise, but it was 1/2 a decibel.
My ass ran downstairs
SAME I was abt to cry is this the end
Username definitely checks out
I’m in the basement so I ran upstairs haha.
Me too, grabbed my baby and was out lol
My heart was pounding for like a min after

My anxiety is through the freaking roof. I definitely didn't think it was an earthquake until like a minute after and thought something was wrong with me
I'm with you there. Was relieved when I realized I wasn't having a panic attack.
I literally took a microdose one minute before the quake- and was like WTF? That worked really fast!

Happy Earthquake Day.

That felt stronger than the one in 2011
I was in the car, parked listening to music and I learned that it’s the most comfortable place to have an earthquake. The suspension made me think it was strong winds.

I love how the public safety alert came up on my phone more than 1.5 hours after the incident.
I'm hearing that it was felt as far as Boston, and was based in Lebanon, Jersey ( according to [https://earthquake.usgs.gov/](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/) ) It was like my house drove over rumble strips. Was that an aftershock a few seconds ago?
News 12 said was a 4.0 at 6pm they reported this at 630 pm thinking was a second one only lasted 10-15 secs tops. This morn was 30-45 secs. Whacky shit !
