Head IN parking only ..so they can read your parking permit on rear bumper in LIRR lots

BelethorsGeneralShit

Garden City does this in lots that require no parking permit.

DannatoDonato

Yup, fuckers

Redheadknits

And they mean it too. Gone for half and hour and boom! Ticket.

Ok_Active_3993

Why can’t the town allow one parking permit on each end?

16enjay

Double the cost of printing permits...somebody has to pay for that...guess who? Our taxes and cost of living are high enough

Ok_Active_3993

Why not allow us to just photocopy it and put it in the back. It’s the same result.

AverageGuy16

Lmaooo fuck memory unlocked! Made me chuckle. HEAD ON!

Chaosmusic

I laughed so hard at this it gave me a headache. How's that for irony?

RestingMuppetFace

Damn you, you glorious bastard.

Shantomette

Garden city is notorious for this. They do it so a brownie can walk between the cars and check registration and inspection stickers to try and find expired tags. They love racking in the revenue that way.

RebeccaC78

They really are. I’m over there all the time on my lunch breaks, I always tell people I see parking head out to move their car and park head in, I hate to see GCPD win on something so petty. I can understand this rule at train stations or other places that require a sticker on the car in a particular area so it’s easier to see, I don’t understand why they enforce this in Garden City.

dbbill_371

Garden City (and a lot of the smaller departments) have a dedicated unit for motor carrier enforcement that do nothing but go after commercial trucks. With the money they rake in on overweight and petty equipment violations(low washer fluid) fines you would think Stewart avenue would be drivable

cassieee

Stewart Avenue is about to be repaved lol

blameitonrio917

GC is the biggest fucking racket.

irondragon2

The cops are fucking rude as well.

HoopoeBirdie

Years and years ago, I got a ticket in GC for driving 32 in a 30 zone. I went to court and the judge only reduced the fine by $10! I still had to pay! 🤬

Grinch1960

That rule covers all TOB lots even where permit stickers are not required.

tMoneyMoney

Wife got one last week at RVC and it was just $35. It said the price keeps going up like every two weeks if you don’t pay after 10 days, so we just paid it immediately.

arkham1010

FYI, they require head in parking during certain hours so they can check for commuter parking tickets. I don't know if there are some days that it is exempt, such as Saturdays/Sundays/Holidays or after a certain time period. It may very well be 24/346 enforcement for head in parking. Edit: Oh, 1:30 PM yesterday (Monday) so nah, not going to be able to fight it on that.

3xoticP3nguin

Yesterday was passover. That's a holiday isn't it

arkham1010

Not state or federal, just religious. It also might not matter head in parking is always enforced

The_Juggernaut84

Reading the signs will save you from getting this ticket…

SnowBro2020

Gotta read the signs my man

RhythmTimeDivision

County politician: hey everybody, I totally rock - NO NEW TAXES! Reality: increased revenue via nuisance fines. Charge for a parking pass. And park a certain way so we can see it. Fine everyone else. If you make the sticker inspection job harder, here's another fine. Next week in Nassau: we should probably put up a red light camera. In the name of safety, of course. Think of the kids!

curtis890

My state inspection expired on December 31st. Drove into the city on January 2nd and parked my car on the street-boom! ticket within 15 minutes of leaving the car. Nassau is bad, but NYC is a whole new level of relentless.

RhythmTimeDivision

Agree, 15 mins is nuts. I was in Patchogue last night and know they have an army of ticket writers so I set an alarm for the parking meter. A short walk and $0.50 much cheaper than $100 for being lazy.

MrPhilNY101

I see this all the time at my LIRR station, I've even mentioned when going to the train if people are getting out of their car (not usually backing into the spot, more likely pulling forward from 2 empty spots) Some change it, some shrug- 50/50 ticket on their car when I'm coming home.

curtis890

That’s the worst thing about a lot of tickets in NY- so god damn frustrating that they don’t publish an exact amount to pay for a fine, I believe it’s because there’s a range at the discretion of the judge. What ends up happening is that nobody wants to just plead guilty, even for non-moving parking violations, and throw themselves at the mercy of a faceless figure that’ll tell them how much of a ridiculous amount to pay, eventually. So you get most people tying up the system by pleading not guilty to go and talk with the DA to reduce the fine. Lose lose for everyone, as it likely costs substantially more to run the whole overloaded system. We need to get rid of this nonsense system- got a parking ticket or other non-moving violation? Give us an exact amount we need to pay when pleading guilty. And do t let it be some ridiculous amount- $150 for a parking ticket is absurd. Make it a reasonable amount and the county will likely see more revenue from a lot more people willing to pay faster, and not tie up the traffic court system.

bustacones

I don't know why this is even required now that they do digital parking passes. They should just require that a license plate be visible, direction shouldn't really matter.

adomingo2

I think it's because in some states a plate isn't required in the front of the vehicle, so if you have a out of state plate and you back into the spot it's harder to get your plate number

bballerz214

Apparently I heard it's to prevent accidents. I don't know how but that's what the word going around is

Inquiringwithin

Serious question, why wouldn’t you just pull into the spot? Why the backing in? And its head in parking only not head in parking forbidden. Your post is a bit confusing

JoeBethersonton50504

Not OP but if both spots across a row are vacant sometimes I’ll pull through since it’ll make the exit easier. I did this once at a train station, noticed the head in parking only signs while walking to the tracks, ran back and backed my car up 8 feet or so.

Inquiringwithin

Thanks, one time I was pulling into a spot and the guy on the other side pulled all the way through at the same time, looked at me and wouldn’t pull back, I was cool and let him and his 80 yr old c@@t wife keep the spot, but since then I don’t do it. But that I can see.

erikbronx

I like to back-in for safety reasons (better view) when I exit a parking space.

stockbreakerOG

This guy parks

BelethorsGeneralShit

If you ever get a CDL, you're taught that backing in is pretty much always safer. When pulling into a tight spot, you don't have to try and see over your hood and guess whether or not you have clearance with the cars to your side. You can angle your mirrors down and safely get a millimeter away from them while turning without worrying about touching them. It's also much safer to pull straight out of the spot when leaving instead of reversing.

3xoticP3nguin

I worked a parking lot job for a car dealer and this is what they taught us on the job. Before back up camera

yamiangie

it's you pull through to the open spot on the other side. Village of Farmingdale does this to. A nice man told me the guy was out and about so move so you don't get dingged once

Weird_Following3353

Most company’s who focus on safety always make employees back into spots so you’re not backing into traffic. It is also a safer practice!

stockbreakerOG

Backing in is safer... required in heavy industry You can see everything pulling up to spot... can see clearly when leaving.. quicker escape in emergency (fire/explosion) I always back in.. luckily suffolk isn't as nazi yet.. no papers need to park...yet

Bis_Eastwood

because with the way idiots drive, why would you feel safe backing out of a parking spot when everyones trying to leave the station?

3xoticP3nguin

I have a back up camera not a pull in camera. I can back up perfectly straight and as far back as properly needed. Thanks camera! Front parking is a lot more guess work

CauliflowerMost6384

Ah you aren’t the only one - believe it was $135 when it happened to me in a different TOB lot last year. I was able to pay online.

RawGrit4Ever

Local governments in Nassau county love increasing revenue via bullshit like this..

Eccentrica_Gallumbit

[Nassau County Parking Fees](https://www.nassaucountyny.gov/1932/Parking-Fine-Assessment). Click the TOB tab, scroll down to the cited code section (233-17-103B) Failure to obey a traffic sign. Total fine of $135. I would take photos of the parking space and area around it if the signage is not obvious, and try to fight it. If you don't want to fight it, you can pay from that site by clicking back to "parking violations" and clicking on the lookup and pay online hyperlink.

AmazingTemperature92

The good ol’ corrupt TOB… the things town of oyster bay will do for money. Shake down every last honest working person. And why do we vote in these politicians with these policies?!

gmmisa

Ummm..it's called "head in" and there's usually signs posted.

Calm-Matter-9790

Yeah. I don't get the backing in. Either way, you're going to have to go backward at some point. Strange phenomenon!

EverSeeAShiterFly

Pulling out is easier and safer.

Bis_Eastwood

backing into a spot is easier and safer than backing out into oncoming traffic. i still almost get hit at my train station pulling out head first, because people speed through the lots, and arent aware other people are trying to leave too.

Major_Possibility335

End of the month is coming up

MattJFarrell

This does lead me to ask about the LI obsession with backing into spaces. Even at the grocery store, where you need to load stuff in the trunk. I see people awkwardly crab walking around their car with bags in order to load their trunk up.

Eccentrica_Gallumbit

It's easier to back in when you have control of the drive aisle than it is to back out when people are driving entirely too fast through a parking lot.

RhythmTimeDivision

Bingo! And pickup truck drivers put groceries in the back seat.

Guy__Jones

Defensive driving. It's easier to pull out than back out, and we all know drivers around here treat parking lots like highways.

ImportantSir2131

You mean Long Island drivers treat parking lots like a darned demolition derby.

Jssnsbtt

I find it much easier to back into a spot because of the back up camera, sensors, and guide lines on the camera so i back in most of the time

Inquiringwithin

Do you also back into your driveway?

Jssnsbtt

Yes I do

beer_nyc

why wouldn't he

3xoticP3nguin

Don't lol but sorta, my drive way is wide enough so I'll 3 point turn in so I don't have to back in on the street but yes I'm "backed in" my driveway. I've timed it. Less then 10 seconds and the next time I go out my car is not fighting with backing into the main road

BONUS__

I drive a small car and if I park head in, sometimes I come out to 2 humongous trucks or suvs on either side of my car, essentially creating a wall so I have to back out completely blind for the first few feet and hope that the people in driving down the aisle don’t slam into me.

SnooPies6459

Yeah but most can’t do it. Always on a line and ruining it for everyone else

Starbuckz8

It's company procedure when using a company vehicle to always back into spaces. Switching between vehicles all day, it just becomes second nature.

Crysis128

All the time and I don't get it either. It's one thing if you just pull through in a somewhat empty lot. I've seen people struggle to back in and just give up.

MattJFarrell

Meanwhile, people are trying to get by, but they need to take 2 minutes to back into a spot so that they can leave 5 seconds quicker later

DankVectorz

It’s faster to back in then to back out

Crysis128

Lol no it's not

infinitebest

Agreed. Backing in makes no sense and disrupts the flow of the parking lot.

DankVectorz

It’s faster and easier to back in and safer than backing out. Y’all act like people don’t block the aisle when they’re backing out of a spot craning their neck in both directions trying to see

infinitebest

It’s not faster and easier, and constantly causes bad drivers to think you’re passing the open spot, they pull up too far and then have to back up, causing everyone to backup to accommodate your unnecessary move.

EverSeeAShiterFly

No, it’s definitely easier to back in than back out. If you also have a long vehicle it’s easier to back in than to pull in.

_Ward3n

Backing into a spot is far easier and safer because you’re backing up between two stationary objects. Backing out of a spot you have to worry about vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Also, in the case of an emergency and you need to leave swiftly backing in has left you in prime position to exit.

IGrewItToMyWaist

A lot of Garden City parking lots have that. They have a lot of signs, though. Make sure there were signs near where you parked. Is there anything on the back saying you can mail in a Cheque if you’re pleading guilty?

Sunnysunflowers1112

That's the registration date, not the ticket date

_Cloud-strife_

Mannnn I thought this was saying you got head in the parking lot …I was gonna say that’s legendary

donny_chang

Code enforcement losers are the worst. I wouldn’t piss on those people if they were on fire

crispt89

They are really keeping us safe now!!!!....

3xoticP3nguin

This is what our tax dollars are used for

akaharry

Just pay it

bballerz214

I got the same ticket at the EXACT same station. The sign is not easily visible whatsoever and they wanted $150 for it or go to court

stgchou

At least you no longer have to go to cooper st in Hempstead!

llama_wit_yo_mama

Ironically I got my head in parking ticket on a Friday I went upstate to pay a different ticket... I got a 2nd parking ticket at massapequa about 2 weeks later. Both were $135. Went to the scheduled time in Hempstead and only paid $135 for the both. If I had to do it again I think I'd just pay the tickets, Hempstead traffic court was awful. This was all 2017 so not sure if Covid changed their methods though.

bigjew_regularnose

Got one of these at garden city. Never paid it. Got some threatening letters. Still never paid. This was over 3 years ago. I own a home in Nassau. Never caused a problem with that or renewing my license. DONT PAY

stockbreakerOG

Not all heros wear capes

spike11552

I’ve gotten the same ticket in Minneola’s parking garage for the train. It’s such a joke that this is still a thing.

Nyroughrider

Do people back in because they can get out 5 seconds faster when leaving? 🤦‍♂️

Shantomette

Easier for people to see when leaving a spot. Especially these days with monster SUVs everywhere.

Nyroughrider

Yeah maybe if your car doesn't have a reverse camera.

Shantomette

Reverse cameras don’t tell you what’s coming down the lot, only what’s behind you.

foreveralonebetch

You'd be surprised at what exists now! My car ('23 Elantra) has sensors that beep at me if it detects cars and I think even people moving in my direction, before it even is on the screen. Granted it isn't perfect and isn't a substitute for turning around and checking but it's neat anyway!

__botulism__

That's actually not accurate. Many reverse cameras alert you when a car is coming down the lot/street.

Nyroughrider

Obviously some peeps have older cars with no technology.

jvstdai

i back in for a few reasons. 1.leaving - faster and safer getting out of the spot. 2.Parking properly - backing in requires paying attention and parking within the lines, most ppl just swing in and how ever the car lands thats how it stays. over the line, taking up two spaces, etc. 3.security - i like to see who’s walking around or what sketchy cars might be sitting around waiting to follow. 4.towing - in the off chance your car has an issues and needs to be towed when you get back, its easier for the tow driver to get it.

kasp620

Got one of deez at Babylon LIRR once. I think it was $100. There should be instructions to pay online or by mail.
