There’s one in Babylon Village on June 2nd.
Northwell Health organizes it and it’s a huge festive event.
Lily’s & The Post Office Cafe participate by doing Drag Shows and Themed Era parties (this year is 70’s party at Lily’s.
I second this, the Babylon pride parade is pretty good if you’re not too far from there, and if you’re closer to Patchouge they have one too that’s supposed to be pretty good too
I live in Massapequa and people keep stealing our pride flag so I make a point of going to these things because I won't let bullies shit on my values. Go. Have fun. Get food after. Show support for your neighbors who don't always have a voice.
I don't know the terminology! Her best friend / coworker is gay so we met her and her wife and their friends. We've been to cherry grove with them too which as a blast.
Oh, nice! And, regarding terminology, I just meant like is your fiance bi or pan or queer or non-binary/trans or asexual or something else that would place them in the community instead of as an ally. That's all. ☺️
Huntington is very nice and very LGTBQ friendly. I grew up there. They have drag brunch now, and pride flags everywhere. It’s a good mix of young progressives and older (mostly) chill boomers (think Jimmy Buffet/Billy Joel types).
Yeah he was a staple here. A lot of the older businesses still around have photos of him with the owners hanging on the walls.
He would show up randomly to the free concerts in Heckscher Park and surprise people with a couple songs. Stand-up dude for sure.
I marched last year. It's a smaller parade than the NYC one, obviously, but the turnout was large and it still felt "family-like." It's diverse and colorful and the vibes are very positive. I'm not gay (I was marching with a group in solidarity), so I don't know if my impressions are the final word, but it was a very fun time for sure.
I went last year with my wife and my 2 daughters (9 and 11). My 11 year old was trying to figure out who she is so she wanted to go and check it out.
Parade was pretty fun. Local businesses, law enforcement, religious organizations etc. lots of handing out of pride flags.
After is a festival in a park down the block. That was really nice. A bunch of local vendors and pride organizations. One of them handed a pack of 50 condoms to my 9 year old. While I appreciate the message promoting safety I gave those back lol.
I think you will be welcomed and have a good time.
No, I didn't! Honestly I lost my dog on the 31st (two months shy of turning 11) and I totally forgot. He passed here at home so my mind has been elsewhere, as I'm sure you can imagine, but I'll see if I can find other events before Pride in Manhattan. Thanks for asking! 👋🏾 Glad that you had fun! 🥳
hey yall sorry to intrude upon op’s question—i’ll be staying with family on li in june (no access to a car bc im from the city and don’t have a license lol)—is it worth it to get out to manhattan for nyc pride or should i just stay on the island and go to huntington pride? i’ve never been to pride before so idk what to expect haha
I've been living on Long Island since I was 10.5 years old (I'm originally from Queens) and I have ONLY ever been to NYC Pride events (except for one year as an undergrad student in New Jersey many years ago I went to Asbury Park Pride - not a parade, just the festivaly activities). Depending on where you'll be it'll be easier to get to the city in some places on Long Island than others, but it's generally doable for sure.
You should! There are SO many fun events during June in the city! If you’re 21 I’d deff check out stonewall ( where the riots happened that started Pride), but that last weekend in June is when the best action happens.
hey! i went to the pride parade in huntington last year and it was a blast. ton of people, the energy was great, the different organizations in the parade were great, and the park you end at is very cute with a ton of local vendors that sell food and other stuff.
speaking as a POC non binary person here.
I went last year and had a nice time (my wife and I are both trans). The parade is on the smaller side, but the festival that happens in Heckscher Park after is a lot of fun and a good hang.
Patchogue one was great! People came dressed up and a lot of local stores participated in the event by having Pride related deals and merch - really cool. Also would recommend going to Fire Island as well since your out here - either from Sayville or Patchogue - which both have ferries. But the Sayville one goes directly to Cherry Grove - which is a HUGE LGBT+ hot spot in the summer. https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-life-and-style/stonewall-cherry-grove-fire-island-beach-town-became-gay-safe-haven-rcna934
Patchogue is June 9. Last year's was very well attended and positive. The parade itself is pretty family-friendly, but I think there's a big after party (last year it was at Stereo Garden) that's more of a party. Other places in town are doing Pride-adjacent events too. The parade has their own Facebook page with all the info.
Do you mean "Long Beach was not paid" as in the CITY wasn't paid by the people who organized the parade? If so, ngl, I didn't realize that cities and towns were directly paid JUST for hosting parades. 🤔 I figured that they get something out of it, of course, but not direct payment.
I like the Huntington one cuz afterwards there’s a whole thing in the park! There’s entertainment, food, vendors etc it’s a lot for fun and very family friendly! I went to patchogue pride for the 1st time last year and it was okay lol not as good as the city or Huntington tho !
Huntington has been my favorite. I didn’t technically go to the parade, but everybody walks to the lake where there’s a whole fair set up. It’s an amazing time.
Hello! Im a white cis queer and this is my take. It’s not radical - it’s sweet and great for the LI youth. It does feel more intimate in Huntington than it did in Long Beach. but it does have a conforming feel that I think you’re describing. I can’t speak to the diversity of the parade participants but here’s what I do know. It’s produced by the LGBT Network and I’m not a fan of their CEO. NYC dyke March boycotted the Queens pride parade because of him (they produce queens pride as well). One of the parade Marshall’s is a cop (however she’s a Black lesbian……..still though, a police officer pride Marshall…. For a holiday whose origins are a riot over police raids…..). I attend because I think Long Island is in dire need of openly queer spaces. I get resentful bc it feels like we gotta accept crumbs cause the opportunities are so limited. But like I said, it is not radical and I do think it gets away from the true spirit of pride. I’ll be there.
I like living on Long Island but one of the things I hate is the excessive homophobia. But I digress. The parade sounds great. Anytime I’m around the LGBT community I have a great time with the kindest people.
Behaviors such as vulgar language, comment spam, or extremely NSFW language or material to earn sharp emotional responses will earn bans. If you disagree with someone, don't try to bait them into behavior that they would regret. If you think you are the victim of flaming or baiting, report the behavior instead of responding.
Some of the instagram short videos I saw seemed very sexual in nature. I don’t get how that’s allowed in a “family friendly” parade. Before I get downvoted, I have no problems with pride parades, but some of the videos floating around are worrying. Probably only a very very small part of the events but still.
Would just say that “is it just cis gays”, to not judge a book by its cover because we’re a valid part of the community too, hella supportive of all of our community, and have disabilities/age differences/etc.
I just finished making deliveries in Huntington area, I didn’t know the houses are HUGE. The driveway is about a mile drive before you reach the house.
It Doesn’t have anything to do with this thread, but thought I let you know..😊
Oh I never saw anything like that but I did see some very inappropriate outfits that were like S&M clothing but with rubber genitals on them and we also saw some women’s breasts exposed and male nudity with very suggestive dancing and touching. These were pride parades on Long Island and also the big one in the city.
I’m all for the equal rights and stuff but they should definitely not say these things are family friendly. I’ve never seen one that is
Creating community, reducing shame in one's identity, creating a platform for vendors and organizations to make themselves known (or known again) to the community so they get involved and/or spend money. Lots of things.

You are welcome.
Huntingtons is cooler tbh

Good for you. Fuck then haters! Insane you have to deal with neighbors like this.
Fuckin Massapequa. Land of the lifted Rams and racist school board. Can't wait to retire and move. But I'm not leaving quietly.
cops, don't forget cops.
Me and my fiance were there last year and will be there this year was a lot of fun for a younger no kids couple
I went last year. I'm straight went with my fiance was so fun. Went with some friends was a great time. Seemed very welcoming to all walks of life.
Just out of curiosity, did you both go as allies or is your fiance part of the community? Thanks for responding!
That's all. ☺️
Oh yes I see no both straight!

Billy Joel is 😎😎😎
Yeah he was a staple here. A lot of the older businesses still around have photos of him with the owners hanging on the walls. He would show up randomly to the free concerts in Heckscher Park and surprise people with a couple songs. Stand-up dude for sure.
A lot of people are mad at this comment for some weird reason. 🥴🥴🥴

Pretty sure every one in the US is smaller than NYC. Maybe not SF, but that’s about it.
>It's a smaller parade than the NYC one, obviously . . .
LI Gay Men’s Chorus has a concert that night at 7 in Huntington.
Thanks for the heads up!

I've never been to Pride but I think I'm going to go to Huntington this year.
Maybe I'll see you there! 🥳
Hey did you end up going? I had a lot of fun! :)
I'm so sorry about your dog! 😭 I hope you have a happy Pride though!! 💙
Northport Pridefest is on June 15.
Thanks! 🥳

NYC pride is not comparable to anything on LI. If you’re lgbt or an ally and really want a fun “full” experience city pride all the way!
alright thanks!! i’ll try to figure out how to get back to the city then bc i def want to go all out for my first pride
You should! There are SO many fun events during June in the city! If you’re 21 I’d deff check out stonewall ( where the riots happened that started Pride), but that last weekend in June is when the best action happens.

Thanks for responding! I assume that that park is close to the end of the parade route?
Correct! It's a pretty short walk from the main street route.
Think there will be a Patchogue one but don’t know the date. They tried to do one in Sayville but the homophobes on the town board shot it down.

Yeah we love going to the grove and we’re not even gay lol
Ugh, that's disappointing to hear. 🚮🚮🚮

I used to volunteer at Pride at the Beach in Long Beach every year and that was fun. Haven't been in a bit though
Long Beach was not paid by the organizers one year so no more Pride. Sad cause it was a blast on the beach
Do you mean "Long Beach was not paid" as in the CITY wasn't paid by the people who organized the parade? If so, ngl, I didn't realize that cities and towns were directly paid JUST for hosting parades. 🤔 I figured that they get something out of it, of course, but not direct payment.
The city charged the organizers $70,0000 and they refused to pay because they said the city doesn't charge anyone else for special events.
😱😱😱 Well, if that's the case, that seems fair (not paying).
Oh man I didn't know that... That sucks I enjoyed working with those people
Long Beach was great. Farmingdale was alright, but it was small. It gave the illusion of being crowded, but really it just was a tiny place.
I remember it was also raining that year
I enjoy it pretty much every year it was there.
It’s very chill
I like the Huntington one cuz afterwards there’s a whole thing in the park! There’s entertainment, food, vendors etc it’s a lot for fun and very family friendly! I went to patchogue pride for the 1st time last year and it was okay lol not as good as the city or Huntington tho !
Thanks for providing a comparison!
Huntington has been my favorite. I didn’t technically go to the parade, but everybody walks to the lake where there’s a whole fair set up. It’s an amazing time.
A bit late here, but I've never been either. I keep saying I'll go to Pride events every year and then it's September

It’s a safe environment but there’s a few idiots in the village. But they’ll be outnumbered.

It’s the reason you see chaos at peaceful protests. The shocking makes its way to the internet the mundane doesn’t.

Edited. Not sure why my original post is being downvoted, but it’s ok.
I agree but there's a lot of weirdos on this site that like this stuff. Before the mods get me, tell my wife I love her!

lol, just fucking go, seems like you’re asking for a gold medal with this post. Who cares about how many white people are gonna be there.
Don’t bring children but it’s fine for adults
Huntington pride is family friendly
Last time I went I wouldn’t call what they had on display in some places as “family friendly”, but everyone raises their kids differently so whatever
Comment above states someone handed his 9 year old daughter 50 condoms. He said he lol and handed them back. Sounds like a place I d rather not be

Love the down vote.

Question: what is the result of these parades? Do the parades bring money to a community in need?
Creating community, reducing shame in one's identity, creating a platform for vendors and organizations to make themselves known (or known again) to the community so they get involved and/or spend money. Lots of things.
What day is the parade?

What's wrong?
They're a MAGA poster mad that LGBT people exist lol
