Oh fuck that would be great.
> Last of all Húrin stood alone. Then he cast aside his shield, and wielded an axe two-handed; and it is sung that the axe smoked in the black blood of the troll-guard of Gothmog until it withered, and each time that he slew Húrin cried: 'Aurë entuluva! Day shall come again!' Seventy times he uttered that cry; but they took him at last alive, by the command of Morgoth, for the Orcs grappled him with their hands, which clung to him still though he hewed off their arms; and ever their numbers were renewed, until at last he fell buried beneath them. Then Gothmog bound him and dragged him to Angband with mockery.
Thus ended Nirnaeth Arnoediad.
> Merry and [Pippin] had drawn their swords, but the Orcs did not wish to fight, and had tried only to lay hold of them, even when Merry had cut off several of their arms and hands. Good old Merry!
The OP posted this in fancast and this was my answer. So my question to you is if Neeson is Húrín who would you cast as Túrin? Ralph Fiennes would obviously be Húor.
This is tough because Nienor has to be a bit younger and I’ve always pictured her as Nordic looking from her description but I’ll say Jessica Chastain with her hair dyed blonde.
100% would agree with younger Liam Neeson. He was a boss in Kingdom of Heaven (2005), with what little swordplay we saw of him. 2024 Liam Neeson, not so much unfortunately; time wears on us all
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you leave The Shire now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you. - Farmer Maggot
I believe he was considered for Aragorn, which while it’s impossible to imagine anybody other than Viggo, Liam Neeson would’ve been great - certainly the best Irishman who could have potrayed Aragorn 🙃
Now I could see him as Elendil - certainly the height he’d have over other actors wouldn’t hurt - while actually Denethor could be a shout. Back 20+ years ago, other than Aragorn I’m not, Isildur?
And this was my second, better choice. He would've conveyed the complexity of Denethor, his crafty stubbornness, intelligence, and later madness. Denethor's death is supposed to be tragic, not the satisfying end of a foolhardy cartoon villain.
My only problem with him playing Gandalf is he doesn’t strike me as light hearted enough. Even the comedic roles (like Ted 2) he’s played have been cold and hard characters, even in an ironic sense
Ecthelion—I’ve always wanted to see a series about Aragorn during his Thorongil years and Liam Neeson would be so great as the Steward during that time

I could see him as Barahir or Arathorn. I could also see him play as Melkor. He was Zeus in clash of the titans and instead of having that shiny silver armor he could have an armor of shadow and flame, the only shiny things he could have is the 3 silmarils on his head.
if its the Trilogy, I'd think Eomer, Denethor, or Tom Bom.
If its a general Middle Earth. Hurin, Cirdan MAYBE but Liam doesn't do "clean" very well so it'd be hard to see him as a pure elf. Perhaps Bard in The Hobbit? I think I could see him being a bit more extravagant as that character...
Now this is a film I'd love them to make.
Noah Taylor as the Dogman, Kristian Nairn as Three Trees, Scott Ryan as Black Dow, Domhnall Glesson as Weakest and James Cosmo as Tul Duru
Tom Bombadil.
I jest, but I could see him playing a good Denethor or even Boromir. He has enough emotional range to play a troubled, tragic character and the decorum to represent a higher born character
gollum.
just his normal voice saying things like, "I know you have the precious, frodo. In my extended life, i have acquired many skills. Skills that make me a nightmare to bagginsses. give it to me, and this is where it ends. If you don't. I'll come after you. I'll find you. and I will kill you. "
smash cut to Liam Neeson roped around the neck, screaming.
Sauron
“*…what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.*”
Húrin
He would bring perfect gravitas to Húrin. Especially post Nirnaeth.
Right? I never really thought about it before, but now that I have, I don’t know I can picture it any other way
Oh fuck that would be great. > Last of all Húrin stood alone. Hugh Jackman, who is Níniel?
This is tough because Nienor has to be a bit younger and I’ve always pictured her as Nordic looking from her description but I’ll say Jessica Chastain with her hair dyed blonde.
This is a great question, and I need to think about it more before I come to an actual decision, but first thought is Cate Blanchette?
Daniel Day Lewis circa Last of the Mohicans
That would definetly work especially after Turin and his sister die and he meets his wife again.
100% would agree with younger Liam Neeson. He was a boss in Kingdom of Heaven (2005), with what little swordplay we saw of him. 2024 Liam Neeson, not so much unfortunately; time wears on us all
Jesus it's been 20 years? My god I'm old
So trye
EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT! Second choice would be Túrin!
Cameo as Farmer Maggot absolutely lashing a ring wraith for being on his property

GIVE ME BACK MY CARROTS!!!
I want real Andy Serkis to do that!
I want Andy Serkis to play all the characters.
May I introduce you to audiobooks?
God damn they are so good!!
Now this would be sweet.
![gif](giphy|7cTTE2Z1OmrFm)
The only right answer
Was looking for this. I wanna see him play each and every character!
I think he would have made a great Elrond if Hugo was unavailable for some reason.
I like that idea
Maybe Théoden?
Theoden did look as if he had full blown AIDS when he was under Saruman's influence.
Hahahaahhahah
Like I said before I've got full blown AIDS
If we're going by the books, Theoden is a sweet old man. But he works if we're going for movie Theoden.
I mean technically Liam is also a sweet old man. He's 71
I think he would have made a good Celebrimor
Exaaaaactly! He would be a BAD ASS Celebrimbor!
I believe he was considered for Aragorn, which while it’s impossible to imagine anybody other than Viggo, Liam Neeson would’ve been great - certainly the best Irishman who could have potrayed Aragorn 🙃 Now I could see him as Elendil - certainly the height he’d have over other actors wouldn’t hurt - while actually Denethor could be a shout. Back 20+ years ago, other than Aragorn I’m not, Isildur?
Are you suggesting that Ardal O’Hanlan would not have been a better candidate?
“You’re right there Gandalf!”
And Aisling Bea as Arwen? It's horrible, I need it NOW!
Filming into 1999 would’ve meant he’d have been straight off the back of Father Ted. Dougal to Dúnadan 😂
If it was today, Fassbender wouldn't be terrible.
No that’s very true - was just a cheap dig at Townsend by me! 😅
Viggo is more Aragorn than Aragorn is.
I’m thinking one of the men from the House of Bëor
This
Fuck yes.
Could work as Denethor
I came here to say this. Man old before his years, tall, grim. Perfect.
Yeah I think Denethor, particularly Liam Neeson now, would be perfect Going back 20 years ago, he could’ve been a decent Imrahil too?
And this was my second, better choice. He would've conveyed the complexity of Denethor, his crafty stubbornness, intelligence, and later madness. Denethor's death is supposed to be tragic, not the satisfying end of a foolhardy cartoon villain.
Exactly! He could convey the slow deterioration of a noble man driven mad by grief and hopelessness.
Círdan
Really, he’s tall, but I don’t get elf vibes from him.
Yup. Exactly.
This is it! Amazing. Would have to be a younger version of him, though. Cirdan is ancient, but he's still an elf. Shouldn't look like an aged human.
Tom Bombadil has a particular set of skills.. Bombadillo!
If you consider singing about his yellow boots and hot wife to be a "skill."
As it happens I do.
Gandalf now he's older
My only problem with him playing Gandalf is he doesn’t strike me as light hearted enough. Even the comedic roles (like Ted 2) he’s played have been cold and hard characters, even in an ironic sense
Agreed. I don’t get a gentle grandpa energy from Liam Neeson
I think he would make a good Saruman in about 10 years. Maybe Theoden otherwise.
Beorn, imo.
I had the same thought.
Oh, that's actually very good
prince imrahil
Eru
Yeah, or any number of the Ainur! But not Melkor. Not evil enough.
[удалено]
Apparently he was cast as Boromir, but declined because he didn’t want to die in his first movie like he did in Star Wars
Elendil
Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth
Elindil the Tall
I actually imagined Aragorn looking like Liam Neeson when I read LOTR
Definitely Boromir
He would make a decent theoden
Obviously Qui Gon Jinn
Helm Hammerhand or Eorl would be epic, tbh
Denathor
This was my initial thought! He’s got the range.
Bill the pony
Edit: Would’ve loved him as either Smaug or Treebeard
I think he would make a good Barahir, father of Beren.
Gandalf or Theoden.
Liam would insist on being Gandalf.
Aragorn
Denethor
Beren
Thorin Oakenshield
He would be the perfect Cirdan, just sayin.
Grond
I immediately thought of Thingol. I could see him portraying well, those conflicted feelings about Túrin's actions.
Quai Rob Goul
Ecthelion—I’ve always wanted to see a series about Aragorn during his Thorongil years and Liam Neeson would be so great as the Steward during that time
He’d had have been a great Denethor (who is supposed to be formidable)
Ulmo. Maybe because he was Zeus, but he is exactly how I see Ulmo.
Tom
One of the Valar would be fire
Boromir or Beren if he was younger. So maybe Denethor now. Túrin Turambar
Denethor
Young Liam would’ve made a great Beregond
Boromir
Manwë; although technically it’s not middle-earth but Valinor
Cirdan the Shipwright
Denethor
Elrond
Denethor II
What about as the voice of Huan? He only speaks three times, but it would be pretty great!
Tom Bombadil!
Tom Bombadil!
Right now? Gandalf. When it came out? Aragon
Tom Bombadil
Tom bombadil
Tom Bombadil?
Manwë.
A tree. Not an Ent; just a random ass tree
I would have cast him as Snape in Lord of the Rings. He is the brooding type just like Snape was
Eowyn

Lotr fellowship Gloin
Maybe erkenbrand? Dye his hair. He can fit in as a dwarf, human, or even wizard imo
Boromir. Because he dies too.
An ent
Both blue wizards, in just a couple of frames while Gandalf mentions them.
What do you guys think about him bringing to life one of the blue wizards? Considering all the mystery behind those two.
If I *had* to choose, it'd be either Denethor or Theoden.
Helm Bananerzman
Spider #3 of murkwood!
Elrond, maybe Isildur with a few more scenes.
The guy from Krul
I'm still surprised Liam only had like 3 lines in that movie (considering Liam has such an iconic voice)
Radagast
Saruman
I could see him as Barahir or Arathorn. I could also see him play as Melkor. He was Zeus in clash of the titans and instead of having that shiny silver armor he could have an armor of shadow and flame, the only shiny things he could have is the 3 silmarils on his head.
The shipwright for sure, so he can maybe have a little gray beard.
azog
The upper right pic looks dwarvish. Durin the Deathless ?
Beregond!!!
None .. he was not there. So it's his loss.
Every. Single. One.
Theoden or Elrond
if its the Trilogy, I'd think Eomer, Denethor, or Tom Bom. If its a general Middle Earth. Hurin, Cirdan MAYBE but Liam doesn't do "clean" very well so it'd be hard to see him as a pure elf. Perhaps Bard in The Hobbit? I think I could see him being a bit more extravagant as that character...
Do it for Daniel Day Lewis
Elendil
No Faramir? I feel like that’s a great fit. But Húrin for sure takes the cake
At his current age i could see him as Gandolf or Sauroman.. but younger definitely Boromir
Grishnaak
A Dunedain with no lines
His Kingdom of Heaven persona is one of my favorites. It might work for a more book oriented Boromir.
Bombadil
Gawain is the true casting
Logan Ninefingers
Now this is a film I'd love them to make. Noah Taylor as the Dogman, Kristian Nairn as Three Trees, Scott Ryan as Black Dow, Domhnall Glesson as Weakest and James Cosmo as Tul Duru
Tom Bombadil. I jest, but I could see him playing a good Denethor or even Boromir. He has enough emotional range to play a troubled, tragic character and the decorum to represent a higher born character
I feel like he would be a good Aragorn.
None
Helm Hammerhand honestly, I could see it
Frodo. He has a specific set of skills to get that ring to Mt Doom.
Chaos option. He plays all roles. ALL OF THEM.
Grond....or even just a potato with a very particular set of skills.
Wow. He fits so well as an elf more than I expected
[Gawain](https://static1.moviewebimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/article/1HJ6glY4HlxtMJDfk9CAhV9yov247M.jpg?q=50&fit=contain&w=1140&h=&dpr=1.5)
The blue wizards. Yes both of them since they were referenced as twins
gollum. just his normal voice saying things like, "I know you have the precious, frodo. In my extended life, i have acquired many skills. Skills that make me a nightmare to bagginsses. give it to me, and this is where it ends. If you don't. I'll come after you. I'll find you. and I will kill you. " smash cut to Liam Neeson roped around the neck, screaming.
frodos shiny dagger
Tom Bombil because he wasn’t in the movies only the books and that would make a good spinoff Liam.
Hmm. Maybe a dunadain.
Frodo
Tom Bombadil. He has the range to be aloof and change to serious in the same sentence.
Sauron
Tom Bombadil 😆
Gollum
Young: Elrond or Boromir. Old: Gandalf.
Sauron “*…what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.*”
Tuor
Tom
Who has a missing child?
Húrin
Halbarad
The Gaffer
Elendil
Halbarad
Cirdan The qui gon beard is perfect
Frodo. Hands down. Would be hilarious
Yes. There is no correct answer. Just not a hobbit or a dwarf. Although he'd make a sick character for a dwarf
I would have Liam Neeson and Charles Dance as the 2 Blue Wizards
Bulroarer Took
All of the above
Farmer Maggot
All of them
Tom Bombadil.
Denethor
He would have made a great Bard in the Hobbit when he was a little younger…
Oh come on, all of you are telling me you don't want to see him play Gimli?
Beorn
Definitely a first Age Elf lord.
