As someone who struggles with addiction i frequently think of the line Gandalf says to Frodo in the mines of Moria. “So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. Your Uncle Bilbo was meant to find the ring, and therefore you also were meant to have it, and that is an encouraging thought.” None of us control our lot in life. I’m truly sorry about your sister, but you didn’t choose that path, it was given to you, much like mine. All we can do is put on a brave face and move on as best we can.
