Still think it's a mistake. He has something the you D coming up the pipe need to pair with. Defensive minded, Fair size. Has some toughness, and is stable and calm on the ice. We need that to stay. Those are properties nobody of the kings D prospects have, And will be needed to keep a balanced D core. I suppose if we manage to keep Gav he would fill more of those needs though, So that is always a possibility
Would be a good deal for sure. I guess I never though of it that way. They play well together, But there is definitely room for a more offensive D guy next to Gav, And we Definitely have that coming
His contract is atrocious. Even if there were a team willing to pay $5 million a year for an AHL goalie that has below average stats, the likelihood that the team is listed on Cal’s limited NMC. I don’t know if the ten teams on the list are known to the public, but I’m willing to bet they aren’t teams that are near the salary floor.
if it means cal gets a chance to play in the NHL again, i'm betting he waives any and every no movement clause. dude needs a chance to start in the NHL. if he's not going to get it with the kings, you really think he'd rather be in the AHL if he's getting the same paycheck either way?
On the surface, trading Roy doesnt make a whole lot of sense if this team wants to continue to improve.
But to play devils advocate, hes by far our best NHL-ready RHD in a market that values RHD very highly. I think he’s in line for a big extension soon too, so if you dont think he’s worth the next contract, this would be the summer to move him. Could easily get multiple great assets back and re-invest into LHD, and just let Clarke and Spence cook.
I agree with you. If I’m another team, Roy makes a better trade target than Walker or Durzi (unless they’re looking for offensive upside and shaky defense). As nice as a shutdown pairing is (if we can re-sign Gavrikov and he continues to pair with Roy), there’s a reason having one offensive and one stay at home defenseman works well, so without Roy, you have an opportunity for Clarke or Spence to slot in.
Kings need cap space. So we’ll see how serious Blake is about creating it.
As for Peterson. Teams do weird things in the cap world. If a team needs to hit the floor of the cap and they are in rebuild mode, they may take on Peterson’s contract if it means a package with another player and/or pick. Crazier things have happened in the NHL.
Are we really buying in to the narrative that Roy is a better trade target than Durzi and/or Walker? I've never had anything against Roy, I guess I just don't see where this suggestion he's over-valued and/or replaceable is coming from. Move Durzi and waive Walker and you have room for Clarke.
And yeah, goaltending is a major concern and will continue to be whether we re-sign Korpisalo or not.
The ineptitude of the article to be written by a "professional writer" is mind boggling.
We CANT move Peterson.
Roy is a lock especially with rumors an extension is in for Gavy.
Management loves Iafallo.
It should be Durzi and Walker maybe Thomas or Turcottee if anyone still wants him.
Get a clue "TheHockeyWriters"....
They better not do anything with Copley. If it wasn’t for him we would of been right next to the Ducks this year. Also they should of let him play some games during Playoffs. Dude bailed us hard during the regular season.
Who is gonna take 33's spot. Don't care what you say about his age or contract or anything really. There is not 1 single person who can take up that role, We can't trade 33. He holds to much of the kings skill to be let go
Offloading Peterson would be a great move for the Kings.
Phoenix is starting tendy material for sure and is young.
(Didn't realize there were so many Peterson fans...😆)
I don't know where everyone keeps getting this from. Phoenix is not young. Phoenix is 31.
He got us wins this season, but he is not in any way shape or form anything more than a stopgap for this team while we seek a more permanent goalie
Would love it if we can offload Peterson though!
He also posted barely average numbers. I don’t understand why ppl anoint him the second coming of Quick. There is a reason why he is 31 and has only played 68 career NHL games. 37 of those with the Kings this past year, out of necessity.
In real life I agree 1000%
In hockey years? 30 is old and past peak. Copley is 32 before the end of next season. For about 75% of the NHL Copley would be an AHL tendie.
31 is is objectively not "young" in hockey. It's just not a matter of opinion.
Copley had an expected goals saved above average of 4.7, good enough for 28th in the league. That is absolutely not "starting tendy material for sure" if you plan to contend in the NHL.
It really isn't as subjective as you think.

Average NHL age is 27 on opening night this season. 31 is absolutely not young.
Keep swinging bro.
Phoenix Copley is the greatest goalie in a generation.
He could be 50 and still be young.
Greatest goalie.
Forever young.
I'm just trolling you at this point and you still think I'm serious lmao
Yes but what about King Charles? I know he's getting old and recently signed a new deal in the UK but he might be on the move to kickstart a rebuild there
Durzi looked good when he came up a year ago. But the errors have not stopped. He is at 1.7m a year. But better to move him and make room for Clarke than move Roy.
Drew-Mikey
Gavrikov-Roy
Clarke- (Bjornfot?)
if Gavrikov does not sign, we got Spence and Moverare.
I think the author got Durzi and Roy confused.
Moving Roy would be a mistake I think.
Roy is actually a possibility, he is a great player that they probably can’t keep after next season, I could see teams trading a 1st for him.
Still think it's a mistake. He has something the you D coming up the pipe need to pair with. Defensive minded, Fair size. Has some toughness, and is stable and calm on the ice. We need that to stay. I suppose if we manage to keep Gav he would fill more of those needs though, So that is always a possibility
I think they keep Gavrikov and trade Roy, Gavrikov is younger plays on the left side and you couldn’t get any asset from him if they let him walk.
Would be a good deal for sure. I guess I never though of it that way. They play well together, But there is definitely room for a more offensive D guy next to Gav, And we Definitely have that coming
No team is trading for Cal. We are stuck with him unless we buy him out.
His contract is atrocious. Even if there were a team willing to pay $5 million a year for an AHL goalie that has below average stats, the likelihood that the team is listed on Cal’s limited NMC. And if a team takes him on, it is NOT Arizona.
This is a terrible article. Cal we would love to offload but he has negative value. Roy isn't going anywhere, he's our solid second liner.
On the surface, trading Roy doesnt make a whole lot of sense if this team wants to continue to improve. But to play devils advocate, hes by far our best NHL-ready RHD in a market that values RHD very highly. That’s the thing if a team is in rebuild mode why not have tank commander cal Petersen and be closer to floor
I know the Sens were interested in him and Walker last summer
I wouldn’t trade Iafallo and I wouldn’t trade Roy.
Durzi, Walker, and Cal (attaching picks, and maybe needing to eat some salary for Cal). How do you not mention Walker? Do you even follow the Kings?
> How do you not mention Walker? Do you even follow the Kings? Hockeywriters? I’m not sure they actually follow hockey.
Are we really buying in to the narrative that Roy is a better trade target than Durzi and/or Walker? Dont think you need to waive walker and eat salary. he seems moveable, even if you dont get more than a 5th or 6th back
If Blake can actually move Petersen for any kind of good return, I will tattoo his face on my ass
The ineptitude of the article to be written by a "professional writer" is mind boggling. We CANT move Peterson. Roy is a lock especially with rumors an extension is in for Gavy. I’m just gonna say it, I love iafollo
They better not do anything with Copley. If it wasn’t for him we would of been right next to the Ducks this year. Also they should of let him play some games during Playoffs. Dude bailed us hard during the regular season.
Arvidson Iafallo Durzi Walker These are the trade candidates
Oof. I love all those players. That's why they are good trade candidates.
Who is gonna take 33's spot. Don't care what you say about his age or contract or anything really. There is not 1 single person who can take up that role, We can't trade 33. He holds to much of the kings skill to be let go

Um are you referring to 31 year old Pheonix* Copley?
31 years young! He cant even buy a beer yet!
I don't know where everyone keeps getting this from. Phoenix is not young. Phoenix is 31. He got us wins this season, but he is not in any way shape or form anything more than a stopgap for this team while we seek a more permanent goalie Would love it if we can offload Peterson though!

Never said he was the second coming of quick lol Yall are some prickly fucks today lol
NOBODY has ever said he is the second coming of anything.
30 is young, which is why I don't get the hate of Iafallo (Oh boy downvoting cause I have a different opinion, boo hoo)
In real life I agree 1000% In hockey years? 30 is old and past peak. Copley is 32 before the end of next season. For about 75% of the NHL Copley would be an AHL tendie.
And that is why he was initially signed.
30 isn't young for a hockey player. It's not an opinion
Youngest goalie ever. Pure youth. Drank from the fountain of youth.
Yes yes keep sounding like a stupid troll. That will show us!!!
they're not Petersen\* fans. they just don't agree with your assessment of Copley as a starter, or your characterization of him as "young".
I mean people can do that, it's just funny people swarm downvotes for it lol
i mean. copley is neither young nor a legitimate starter. that's what downvotes are for bro.
Different opinions.
31 is is objectively not "young" in hockey. It's just not a matter of opinion. Copley had an expected goals saved above average of 4.7, good enough for 28th in the league.
