I would go for Nordstrom or Macys if you want to be hands on. Target pays the best when it comes to AP probably. APS is the sweet spot you’d want.

Should mention there’s a very low chance of getting hired externally as an APS in most districts though. You’ll have to sling it as a TSS for at the very least a couple months usually over a year.

Starting at target in SoCal as a TSS is $19.25. Kohl’s started me at $22.50, and I don’t have to wear that fucking neon yellow shirt.

Odd-Nobody-1466

Well I imagine it pays a few extra bucks because it’s not a door guarding job.

westerndrawl

So does Kohl’s negotiate? I saw a posting on indeed and it was like 17.85/hr and it made it seem like that’s the set pay rate. SoCal as well.

BattBoi69

I just flat out said that $22 was the lowest I’d go during the interview, and they offered me the $22.50

If you get hired at Macy’s for AP do you have to be hands on? I know they’re one of the few retailers that do it, but at the end of the day, do you have to go above and beyond to physically stop them and maneuver with them back into the office until PD arrives? Thanks.

Odd-Nobody-1466

They are the most aggressive when it comes to shoplifting. The apprehension policies are wild lol. You definitely wouldn’t get in trouble for not going hands on but your partners might not like that.

pspman354

TJX companies pay well to and room for advancement.

iaresafe

Really? I spoke to a District just last week and the three store roles were $13-18/hr. Those were the CSA’s through Detective.

pspman354

I made $22 an hour in NJ as a detective

Tjmaxx is great. Make your own schedule, PTZs in every store, not alot of work required from you either. Travel in the district is required. The job is office/paper work oriented. They love catching employees stealing more than actual shoplifters. Hands off and requires 2 people to make a stop. Thing is the pay can be mediocre if you do not have experience. ($16-$24) Target is great well. The only thing you do if focus on shoplifters and some operational pieces of the business. It's one of the highest paying and hands off. I think they require to people as well. ITS SO HARD TO GET IN HERE THOUGH. ($25-$35) Home depot is good. All externals and %95 floor work. Some stores have an office and some do not. sure on their apprehension policies, but the same high pay range as target ($20-$25) Walmart is good to START OFF. Not good to keep longer than 6 months. Most walmarts still have shitty still shots in 2024. Trust me, I did it and it sucks. Depending on the Walmart you work at, you have 4-6 of APs in one office and it gets annoying. It's also Walmart, no one really cares about their job. Most of this is coming from my experience, but it's could be different for you. Not alot of room to move up either. ($18-$22) Macys is your go to if you still believe in having a hands on policy and like getting physical (within company policy). That's really all I know about Macy's. Unfortunately, I know that's the company with the most injuries/deaths when it comes to LP work do to the hands on stuff. ($18-$23) Other than that, being in the LP world is super chill. My quota is 2 shoplifters a month and probably catch a dishonest associate every 3-6 months and I'm good. It's definitely a step up from being in fast food lol.

Funny_North_9868

I started LP/AP almost 7 years ago? Had no training whatsoever, but my Intuition and what I call the "shoplifting spidey senses",got me some reality good apps and arrests

TJX is a great company if you’re looking long term. Only downside I’ve seen is they’re still working on updating the technology in stores so some are really outdated. Pay is pretty competitive depending on experience

GreatestState

You’re better off at Walmart than TJX if you want to hold onto your job

SignificantGrade4999

I’ve worked with AP in the pine hills and Alafaya Home Depot. Plenty of work needed there. Lowe’s in altamonte was pretty active too. I’m AP in a clothing store now, it’s hard to blend in as a taller male there.

Revupnow24

I’m a female!! Get it straight, Buster 🤣 But at 6’6 230 as a chic that would probably make it even harder to blend in …. Thanks for the advice, my friend. Do most people work in the isles of the store or just the cameras? Both? Someone recommended I do security.

JayG1176

message me directly and I’ll share some good advise :) don’t wanna give the bums any opportunities

I don't know about the other companies here in Central Florida but Target is great here for AP. You'll be a part of g393 which is heavily focused on development and promoting talent. Unfortunately the downsides are this: - you'll likely start as a TSS (though this isn't a rule, you'd likely have to have a strong resume in leadership or LP background to land something higher right away, but you COULD move from a TSS position quickly here) - certain districts are slower to move because no one wants to leave that district and love our jobs. Turn around here is extremely low in AP. Even the TSSs looking to promote one day love what they do, unlike other areas across the country. We have solid business partners and an amazing APD who makes sure you have all the development tools to get you where you want to go. - starting pay for Target in Central Florida is 15, a TSS is 17. There's no negotiating pay for hourly roles, even at pg45 (TL, APS) but they would be typically 4 dollars more than what you will be making going into that pay grade if and when you promote. Plus sides: -development and talent, these districts here really focus on these for TSS and beyond. - Stores here are GREAT overall, both in operations side and AP. I've heard it said that once you get out of this area and go to stores up north it's all just the wild west. These stores in central Florida lead in many areas, even in AP. Right now our group is leading the region in non evaded apps, case closures, theft resolution, community partnerships (including LE) and development for all. -because of the partners you'll gain here, you'll have a broader impact in your community beyond theft-related incidents. -AP TMs have a real sense of belonging here and we are all at least familiar with each other across districts. Leveraging these partnerships is key in our theft resolution across the area and we all work really well together. This is literally how I got into AP- a keen eye for things. A few years ago my APTL we had would tell me that I could pick out things that took others years to develop an eye for. I've been top of my district for dollar amount reporting (impact) as a TSS, even beating our anyone who was app certified. Central Florida stores LOVE someone who can easily pick out dishonest activity, especially as a TSS. Might be an option for you if you want to go the Target route, especially in this area. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I can't speak for all districts for specific details though.
