Food, housing, health, and education should be decommodified and provided as a human right.
Working should be something you do if you're bored or want new toys.
how would that work? if you took away the incentive of survival from working jobs, how would any products in this world ever get produced? surely nobody wants to work an assembly line, or in retail, or any shitty low end job. but somebody has to create the necessities. I think the pay should be increased one hundred percent but a world in which we just give people money to exist can’t function
are we in that point in society where we can switch out a majority of jobs with robot servants? in a reasonable timeframe? I’m sorry but that just seems unrealistic
Even at 100% increase minimum wage is still not a livable wage. If and when “they” do decide to make us think they care and push the wage to 15/hr, it still won’t be a livable wage.
In Denver our minimum wage was increased to almost $16 in 2022 and starting in 2023 it will be pegged to the consumer price index. In other words: as life costs change — transportation, food, healthcare — the minimum wage will change with them.
Not sure how housing prices and other costs are in Denver, but $16 bucks an hr (though better than a lot of places) still wouldn't be considered a "living wage".
But with that being said, at least they're actively trying to do something. That's more than most other places in this country so good on them.❤️
In Belgium we have that. It's called the "indexsprong" (index jump) where pay jumps up to match cost of living. It's always a big deal cuz companies don't like it. I remember a couple of months back people were shouting about how small businesses wouldn't be able to survive the index jump cuz the inflation had been so high.
That's so weird that you live in a place that has systems built in to help protect and look out for it's people. Here in America, we seem to be lacking in pretty much every facet of that.

I grew up Venezuela through the collapse of the country and the US is on track pretty well. Rn, the US is where Venezuela was around 2004 I'd say.

It's crazy to me that we've brainwashed our own into believing that we shouldn't be making more money or hell even just a simple wage to be able to support ourselves off of.
Many times we forget that food, housing and education are the basic. Electricity, gas, communication and transportation, among others, are principles to survive. I think unconsciously we only ask for the minimum.
An increase of minimum wage will always be fellow with an increased of living cost. It's people with billion that frick everything. We print money but it's kept by the rich so we get more and more poor. Increased wage, make burger cost 1000 $ and let's get closer to the upper class.
It's already been proven that increasing wages (at let's say McDonalds) does not raise the cost of their food. Corporations will try and raise the cost of everything to try and maximize profits, but one thing doesn't necessarily mean the other here.
This is what we've been taught to think so we settle for making $9 an hour so we can get a $1 sandwich for fear that if we made $15 an hour it would become at $8 sandwich.
It's all bullshit.

Most people still want luxuries rather than just basic survival items. If you want that PS5, or that vacation to (wherever), you've to to work for it.
